About This Document 1.1. Purpose

This Net Report Configuration Guide explains how to generate flat files with Internet Security Systems (ISS) Proventia G and SiteProtector 2.0 SP4 and greater, to be analyzed by Net Report.

1.2. Scope

This document covers the following topics:

• Section 1: Logging-on to the ISS Proventia G SiteProtector and Checking Assets and Sensor Groups

• Section 2: Enabling Event Logging to Log Files

1.3. Audience

This document addresses both basic and advanced Net Report users. This Guide is also written for System Administrators who are responsible for maintaining network security. It assumes you have a basic understanding and a working knowledge of:

- System Administration,

- Unix or Windows Operating Systems,

- Internet protocols.

Section 1: Logging-on to the ISS Proventia G SiteProtector and Checking Assets and Sensor Groups

Overview

This section details how to log on to the ISS Proventia G SiteProtector and check Assets and Sensor Groups. To do so, please follow the steps below:

Steps

1. Log on to the ISS SiteProtector. Select the Server and Port.

2. Enter your User name and Password.



3. Click OK. The Site Manager appears.

4. Select the Group which contains the SiteProtector components in the tree structure.

5. Select the Sensor tab in the right pane.

6. Ensure you have at least one Group of Sensors. To create a Group of sensors, right-click and select Add Group... enter the Sensor parameters as appropriate.



7. Select the Management branch in the left tree structure.

8. Select the Asset tab in the right pane.

9. Check that everything is active.



10. Select the Sensors tab in the right pane.

11. Check that all the Sensor groups are active.



Section 2: Enabling Event Logging to Log Files

Overview

This section details how to enable event logging to log files via ISS Proventia G SiteProtector Console. To do so, please follow the steps below:

Steps

1. Select the Group which contains the SiteProtector components in the tree structure.

2. Select the Sensor tab in right pane of the Site Manager.



3. Right-click on the Event Collector row.

4. Select Event Collector in the context menu.



5. Select Edit Properties… in the submenu. The Event Collector Properties Sheet appears.

6. Select the General tab.



7. Click Advanced… The Advanced Event Collector Configuration dialog box appears.

8. Select Enable event logging to log files under Event Collector logging.

9. Modify the E.C. log file directory if necessary.



10. Check that the E.C. log file directory exists.

11. Note that files are now created. Net Report treats this log file format.
