Local Monitor Analogue ANPR Camera is connected to the AnalyticsCapable DVR along with other Analogue Cameras. IP Cameras can also be seamlessly integrated.

The processing of the ANPR data is conducted within the AnalyticsCapable DVR via a software license (purchased separately)

ANPR Solution Variants:

• ANPR MonitoringStandard ANPR package – monitor and record number plate details, with output stored in a database and associated with video via text-in-image. Images can be viewed live or in playback.

• ANPR Monitoring & ControlEnhanced version of the Monitoring Package gives a white/black list that can trigger alarms or relays to alert an operator / guard or open a barrier.

• ANPR Regular AttendeeThe standard Monitoring Package enabled with a feature to allow users to specify a rolling window of time to monitor individual vehicles access to sites.

– Ideal for Waste and Recycling sites, the software can alert an operator or record an event if the number of visits of any given vehicle hits a threshold.


What is ANPR Monitoring?

• Automatic Number Plate Recognition• Places plates data into event database• Displays plates as ‘Text-in-Image’ data• Can use either HyperSense analogue or IP ANPR cameras• Can use other manufacturers analogue ANPR cameras

• What it isn’t:• Gate Control, doesn’t trigger alarms or use a white/black list• Doesn’t display an alert message on the screen


What is ANPR Monitoring and Control?

• Number plate recognition with Black/White list• Triggers virtual alarms

– And hence trigger Alarm Zones• Writes events to Database• Group plates into Category A, Category B and everyone else

– Employee, Contractor and Visitor • Can use to drive relays, open barriers etc

– Different action for different Categories• Ability to AND/OR/NOT with other inputs (via alarm zones).

– E.g. User has keyfob to access premises, but plate on blacklist (or not on whitelist) would override and block gate from opening

• Displays alert message on main monitor


What it is ANPR Regular Attendee?

• Number plate recognition where the system can check back over a user defined period of time and flag up when a vehicle enters which has already been registered over X times in that period.

• Has ability to have an exempt list (eg: staff).• System is set to 10 visits in 30 days as default

– Programmable via webpage• Ability to drive Virtual Alarms

– And hence trigger Alarm Zones

• What it isn’t:• Monitoring and Control.

– System doesn’t have ability to specify a blacklist manually.• System is per DVR and cannot collate results against multiple DVRs

and sites. – This will be a future product offering though.

• Available in analogue and IP models, Dedicated Micros HyperSense technology removes ambient light from the scene leaving only the objects that strongly reflect the IR light emitted by the integrated IR LED array to be displayed.– Provides enhanced ANPR accuracy and speed of detection

• Ideal for applications including Petrol Forecourt monitoring and Car Park Barrier control, the range includes dedicated ANPR cameras and combined ANPR / Overview cameras all in a single housing.

Factors for Optimum Detection Accuracy

• Plate capture is best from Front of Vehicle– Usually cleaner– Usually less-obscured

• Minimum Plate Size = 1/5 width of the screen• Maximum Plate Size = 1/3 width of the screen• Ideal Plate Size = 1/4 width of the screen

• Range of Distances from Camera to Plate– Minimum Distance 6M– Maximum Distance approx 25m

• Position Camera as close to ‘Head-On’ as Possible– Maximum Vertical Angle = 30 Degrees– Maximum Horizontal Angle = 30 Degrees

DVR Codec Loading Considerations

• Any Codec performing ANPR should not be used for any other cameras on the system (applies to analogue only)

• 16 Channel DV-IP Server has 4 Codecs– Upto 4 Lanes of ANPR– 3 Lanes of ANPR plus 4 other Cameras– 2 Lanes of ANPR plus 8 other Cameras– 1 Lanes of ANPR plus 12 other cameras

• DV-IP HD has 8 Codecs– Upto 8 Lanes of ANPR

• 16 Channel DV-IP RT has 16 Codecs– Upto 16 Lanes of ANPR


Other Design Considerations

• Traffic Speed / FlowIt is important that the fastest traffic speed at your chosen location is known. In access and exit control environments the speed of an entering or exiting vehicle should be reduced to below 20 mph (32 kph).

– Employ direction control kerbing, speed bumps or traffic flow control plates.• Accuracy

Recognition accuracy is the most contentious issue with all ANPR systems. A 95% + accuracy will mean that at least 1 in 20 vehicle license plate details will be inaccurately identified.

– This could lead to chaos at the entrance to a car park with an ANPR controlled barrier each rush hour. Contingencies must be made available before the ANPR system becomes operational.


Other Design Considerations

• TailgatingDriving close behind another will often cause the camera to miss the second number plate image.

– The common solution is to install a speed bump.• Camera Orientation

It is not advisable to align the camera so that it is pointing due East or West. The rising or setting sun can often overexpose the IR camera receiver and distort the captured number plate image.

• Network InfrastructureRemember if the application is an upgrade to an existing site, power and data cabling needs to be available. These aspects are easily overlooked or forgotten, until the installation is underway.
