Africa’s Most Dynamic Cargo Airline

Within its intra-African network, which encompasses 50 destinations, Astral operates a combination of scheduled and ad-hoc charters.

Its current footprint encompasses Eastern Africa with its dynamic Nairobi hub, enables it to actively serve the economies of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia and Mozambique with its current fleet.

Network Aviation Group’s success is based upon continuing to build prosperity for their customers by combining specialist airline services with extensive air cargo management knowledge.

NETWORK AVIATION GROUP MAKING SOARING PROGRESS

The next five years will be exciting times for Astral Aviation as they embark on an ambitious yet cautious expansion strategy which will involve the acquisition of B737F and a network expansion on the intra-African sector.

Astral Aviation expects to acquire a fleet of B737F over a period of three years, which will result in further expansions in the intra-African sector with increased frequency of the existing routes and network expansion into D.R Congo, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Chad and Central African Republic.

Long term strategies relate to further intra-African expansion with additional hubs in West Africa to cover the oil-rich economies of West Africa, and Johannesburg, South Africa hub to cover the economies of Southern Africa.

Astral Aviation’s ultimate strategy is to operate the largest cargo network in Africa with three independent hubs in Nairobi, Lagos and Johannesburg.

Astral Aviation has an exclusive GSA Agreement with Network Aviation Services, which is currently the single largest client of Astral Aviation.

Their motivated experts deliver consistently innovative solutions to their clients – their new brand, which was established in January 2015 – sets out to reaffirm this commitment for years to come. Network Aviation Group offers the highest standards of service to their client airlines, freight forwarders and brokers. Network Aviation Group comprises of twenty one companies which operate across two core divisions:

Air Cargo Americas is one of the largest air cargo exhibitions in the Western Hemisphere. The conference and show is designed to increase cargo growth and international business in the Americas.

Air Cargo Americas is held on a two yearly basis in Miami during the month of November. The Network Aviation Group, through its filial in the USA Network Cargo Management (NCM), exhibited their new branding face and company’s portfolio of World Class Carriers, represented within the Americas to over 7000 local, regional and worldwide visitors, from over 250 companies and from more than 60 different countries. From the Carriers represented in the USA; Fly Dubai, Gulf Air, Allied Air, Astral, Norwegian, one of the biggest achievements for NCM during 2015 was for Avianca Cargo (NCM commenced Avianca Cargo representation February 2015), by selling more than twice the volume sold by their previous GSA. In addition, with Air Bridge new flight operation ex ATL to AMS, the opportunities to move unknown cargo from Florida and surrounding states has widened

NCM’s growth opportunities, to the point that European destinations are now closer with lower TT and more competitive rates than previously used.

There will be new challenges ahead for NCM USA during 2016, increasing NCM’s portfolio to open new getaways of current represented carriers in order to keep fighting the low oil prices negative impact on the cargo industry.

AirBridge, Avianca, DHL, Amerijet, Copa were some of the Air Carriers that also participated during this event. They were able to meet with the air and sea cargo companies, service providers, industry suppliers, freight forwarders and customs brokers during the forum for aviation, giving them the chance to discuss and exchange views, develop strategies to enhance the growth of the air cargo industry in the Americas and showcase the latest products and technologies.

NCM were delighted with the opportunity of meeting new contacts together with the positive input that was made.

operates one weekly flight to Liege Belgium, with 90 tons of perishable cargo consisting of flowers, vegetables and fresh fish.

In addition to flying scheduled services, the managed fleet operate a fleet of MD11Fs through regular full and part charter flights worldwide. A recent charter from Johannesburg to San Diego, California carried six white rhinos for breeding, in an attempt to help save bloodlines from the wild rhino population being threatened due to illegal poaching in South Africa. The flight routed from Johannesburg South Africa to San Diego USA via Sal in Cape Verde for a change of crew and refuelling for the final long sector to California. The rhinos arrived in good health after their long journey, “We are beyond thrilled to welcome these southern white rhinos to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and our new Rhino Rescue Centre,’’ said Steve Metzler, interim associate curator of mammals, who accompanied the animals to San Diego from South Africa. “The animals did extremely well during the flight, eating normally and sleeping a good portion of the long trip,’’ Metzler said. “Our priority now is to ensure the rhinos are comfortable and acclimatizing to their new surroundings.’’ The flight was made possible with meticulous planning by the charter team and in house operations department at the Gatwick office, with on-ground coordination provided by Network Airlines Services staff in Johannesburg.

Other charters operated in the last quarter of 2015 included solar panels to Bamako Mali for UNDP, relief goods for Save the Children to Niamey, Niger, ambulances to Bangui Central African Republic for the United Nations, and several flights on behalf of UNICEF destinations including Bujumbura Burundi, Djibouti, Kathmandu Nepal and Tindouf, Algeria. In addition to relief flights, our charter team operated several full and part charters for the oil and gas sector, making use of NAM’s B747-400F Nose Loader to carry long, heavy pipes and machinery to various destinations in West, Southern and East Africa. Other commodities carried charters included printed matter shipments, that require dedicated flights due to their urgency and sensitivity.

NETWORK AIRLINE SERVICES DENMARKNetwork Airline Services open yet another European office in Billund in Denmark, which commenced operations January, 2016.

Mr. Brian Schandorf has been appointed as Country Manager, with more than 20 years of experience in the airfreight industry (Maersk Air Cargo & Kales Airlines Services). Mr. Schandorf is hopeful that we can consolidate and develop our position in the Danish market where aid & relief, office supplies, mining equipment, election material, ship spares and – not to forget – pharmaceuticals, are the keywords talking Danish airfreight.

With our location in Billund (the origin of Lego) we are close to the second largest airport in Denmark with some of the’heavy weights’ in the Danish industry. It is also the preferable airport for charter flights (cargo) to and from Denmark.

By placing Network Airline Service in Denmark, we can expect to be able to increase our market share, representing: Allied Air Cargo, Astral Aviation, Air Malawi, Air Mediteranee and Bringer Cargo – ensuring a bigger piece of the pie.

Florent Turlier, NAS Sales and Services Manager said “this was an opportunity that NAS could not miss. We have been able to meet with Amerijet Teams and their partners face to face; this is very important in our modern day world, where often it is forgotten that they are all individuals working behind computers, emails, phones, etc. It also helps to solve any problems that arise and explain in more detail as to what services we are able to offer to develop and expand the business. As a result, the Amerijet Global Conference has given us many insights and great opportunities for the future”.
