TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES IN NLP

One of the major frames which effects our perception of reality is time. Basedupon quantum physics, time does not really exist at the deepest level. .All therereally is at the deepest level is the eternal now. Time only begins to exist once weenter the level of physical reality. In the physical sciences, time was invented tomeasure change.

Because time is a metaphor that we create inside of ourselves, we can use thismetaphor to create change.

TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES are HNLP and NLP change techniques that usetime, and our relationship to it, as the primary variable in the intervention. Thereare also quantum-based techniques that apply quantum physical principles (seeHNLP section). These differ in that many operate outside of time and work with

internal representations in an non linear, wholistic way. Time-based techniqueshave three basic protocols for orienting clients relative to time. They are:Backtracking, Timelines and Atemporal techniques.

BacktrackingHistorically, the first NLP techniques involving time were modelled from Milton

Erickson, M.D. Erickson created his own practical techniques based upon thewell known hypnotic phenomena of pseudo-orientation in time, otherwiseknown as regression (past) and time progression (future). One of the major techniques Erickson used was Backtracking.

Backtracking, using some common element, such as an emotion to index chains'

of memories that are connected by the same feeling. Backtracking can be usedwith any of the present-oriented techniques (anchoring, reframing, sub-modalities, etc.) to change and realign the perception of past memories. (See "Methodsfor Locating Memories.")

TimelinesIn Traditional NLP most time-based techniques involve the use of timelines.Timelines developed from the study of Submodalities. Submodalities gave us away to identify how we code our subjective experience. To know the differencebetween the past, present, and future in practical terms we unconsciously usesubmodalities. To make fine distinctions, our unconscious mind uses submodal

ities that easily lend themselves to these distinctions. For this reason most people represent time spatially as a function of location and distance. Because of ourconditioning in the Western world, most of us conceive of time as a linear

process, hence the idea of timelines. (See "Methods for Locating Memories.")

Page 4: NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED … · NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES ... John Overdurf C.A.C. & Julie Silverthorn, M.S. Certified Master Trainers

Two Main Methods of Representing Timelines:1. Visual internal - visualizing the timeline

2. Kinesthetic - walking the timeline

Four main uses of timelines in NLP:

1. Elicitation - to determine how memories are stored

2. Transformation - to change the perception of past, present, futurememories

3. Installation - to code internal representations, particularly future-oriented ones, so the unconscious mind treats them as "real"

4. Generalization - to spread the change throughout one's personal history

Atemporal TechniquesNot everyone can easily visualize their timeline or float up above it. Additionally,if they are not aware of their emotions they may not tind backtracking to be aneasy process. Atemporal techniques are then the technique of choice in these situations because they deal with representations that are not necessarily, or primarily, time coded. Some people tend to code "memories" not as specific events butas composites of a number of events. Semantically packed words (hot words)contain multiple meanings from multiple contexts and create these composites.

People who tend to be highly auditory digital also respond well to aternporaltechniques, which are usually non-visual and/or linguistically based techniqueslike:

1. Alignment TherapyTM - Emotional healing model that does notrequire recall and visualization of specific memories.

2. Beyond Words™ - Linguistic intervention model using quantumphysics principles.

METHODS FOR LOCATING MEMORIES

The following are the three main ways to systematically locate past or futurememories. There are other ways, but most are variations of these.

1. Backtracking - associated technique

a. Generally done by holding the kinesthetic constant (as in a kinesthetic anchor) and using it as a way to index past memories havingthe same kinesthetic. (Can also be done by using the client's internal dialogue or external triggers for the emotions.)

b. Particularly useful when the client spontaneously reaches animpasse or drops into a negative state.

e.g. "As you're feeling this feeling, go ahead and let it transportyou back to the first time you felt it...that's right and let meknow when you've found the context where it first occurred orthe first time you felt that emotion."

2. Timeline - Is a dissociated technique when client is above timeline

- Is an associated technique when walking the timeline

(remember to dissociate for learnings)

a. Direct suggestion

Works best when client is floating above timeline to create lighttrance.

e.g. "Ask your unconscious mind to go all the way back to theevent or series of events that when healed will cause the problem to disappear as an issue in your life."

b. Indirect suggestion (see page 9)

Can be done when client is floating above timeline or can be donebefore they start floating up.

e.g. "What is the root cause of this problem the source of whichwhen cleared will cause the problem to disappear as an issuein your life .....Did it occur before, during or after your birth?"

3

Page 6: NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED … · NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES ... John Overdurf C.A.C. & Julie Silverthorn, M.S. Certified Master Trainers

3. Neurological root cause elicited from eye accessing cues.

The neurological root cause may not be the earliest in terms of time, but itis the primary representation that is driving the problem. (This methodrequires the highest level of skill on the part of the Practitioner.)

Ask a question like: "What prevents you from (your outcome)?"

Calibrate to eye accessing and predicates.

Use overlap to get a full representation of the problem.

e.g. If client accesses Vr and you observe an obvious physiological shift andthe client reports a negative kinesthetic like "fear" you ask, "...And whatare you seeing (gesturing to the client's Vr) as you're feeling fear?"

TlMELINE ELICITATION

When working with memories, we can never really know how valid or real aclient's memory is. It is important to be aware that what your client is accessingis hislher internal representation of what happened. The original representationwas influenced by hislher filters at that time. As time goes on, each time he/she

re-accesses a specific memory it is influenced by the totality of their life experience. In other words, every access of a memory is a reframe.

"Memory is an active, synthetic process."Karl Pribram

There are numerous ways to elicit a timeline, this is one of the more efficient.

When you are doing the elicitation keep your non-verbals constant (avoid leading the client unconsciously with your gestures or voice locus).

Set frame and create "yes" set:

"We're about to do a process that's a fast, easy and effective way for you torelease old emotions or beliefs which you no longer want. To do this we just needto find out how your unconscious mind stores your memories ...

Obviously, you know the differences between the past, present and future .(Calibrate to agreement)

In order to keep track of the past, present and future you have to have a way ofdoing that.... Like a coding system or a filing system ..."

(Calibrate to agreement) ...and it's called your timeline."

Elicitation:

"So if I were going to ask you to point in the direction of your past, where wouldyou want to point? .. (Wait for client to respond.)

And if I were going to ask you point in the direction of your future, where wouldyou want to point? ... (Wait for client to respond.)

And your present, does it seem like it's in front of you or does it feel like you'rein it? ... (Wait for client to respond.)

Now if you connect all of these together, it sort of implies a line, doesn't it?That's your timeline."

CHANGING uNOW"

This technique, based on the work of Wyatt Woodsmall, works best when thetimeline is represented spatially as a line on the floor.

Generally people experience "now" in one of two locations:1. Inside body:

in-time orientation

associated

perceiver (Myer's-Briggs Type Inventory)

2. About one arm's length in front of body:

through-time orientationdissociated

judger (Myer's-Briggs Type Inventory)

The Process:

1. Elicit timeline and imagine it on the floor.

2. Locate "now."

3. If "now" is in the body:physically step backward until "now" is in front of body.

If "now" is in front of the body:

physically step forward until "now" is in body.

4. Condition the transition and ratify the experience.

5. Anchor to appropriate contexts.

6. Test and future pace.

STEPPING OUT OF TIME

Perhaps the single, greatest timeline shift a person can make is to "step out oftime." The following pattern, an adaptation of the work of Wyatt Woodsmall, isanother way to have a direct experience of what we call "the Void" or "QuantumField."

The Process:

1. Elicit timeline and imagine it spatially on the floor.

2. Locate "now."

3. If "now" is in the body (and timeline runs front to back):

physically turn to the left or right and take several steps away from thetimeline so it is well behind the body.

If "now" is front (and timeline runs right to left):physically take several steps forward until timelirie is well behind thebody.

4. Condition the transition and ratify the experience.

5. Anchor to appropriate contexts.

6. Test and future pace.

CHANGE PERSONAL HISTORY REVISED

This process was initially done using backtrack as the technique for locating thechain of memories which are connected by an unwanted emotion. For more dissociation, a timeline metaphor can be used in place of the kinesthetic backtrack. Some clients may prefer to "walk the timeline" to better experience their feelingsand resources.

1. Anchor the unwanted feeling.

2. Backtrack or use timeline to elicit memories in the same chain.

Identify 3 to 4 experiences ending with the earliest experience.

3. Dissociate from each event during backtrack and identify resources(from the most recent to the earliest memory) and reorient to now.

"What are the resources that that younger you needed down there, thatyou have now as an adult?"

Note: If walking the timeline, be certain that the client fully steps off thetimeline to dissociate from the unwanted emotions before they elicit theresources.

4. Elicit and anchor resources (stack anchors).

5. Collapse the negative states. (From the most recent to the earliestmemory.)

6. Test and Future Pace.

ELICITATION PROCESS

Is it okay to trust your unconscious mind? All that really means isare you willing to go with your first impression. ..the first thing youget... whether it seems to make sense or not?

What is the root cause of this emotion (or limiting belief) which, when released, will cause the emotion (or limiting belief) to disappear as an issue in your life?

If you were to know, was it before, during, or after your birth?

AFTER

Age what? (Go with first number which comes to mind.)

DURING BIRTH

BEFORE

womb:

past life:

What month?

Mother's side or father's side? How many generations ago?

UNWANTED EMOTIONS

1. Use any ecological form of regression and orient client directly abovethe event. (Can be done associated or dissociated.)Associated:

"Just go ahead and allow that feeling to take you all the way back to the rootcause of and then make sure you are way up above it lookingdown on it."

Dissociated:

"Float way up above your timeline and begin floating back over the pastuntil you are directly above the event your unconscious mind has identifiedas the root cause of _

2. Preserve the learnings. "Now, as you are way above the event, looking(sensing) way down there, ask your unconscious mind what it is, that youcan learn from that event, the knowing of which, will allow you to let go ofthe __ . 3. Release the emotion. "Now, staying way up above your timeIine, float wellbefore the event, or the chain of events, that led up to that event, turn and looktoward now and ask yourself, 'Where's the , now?''' (Calibrate.Reframe and/or use healing light metaphor if emotion doesn't release.)

4. Verify and clean-up if necessary. "Now float down into that event, but withall of the learnings you have now, and make sure . ..is gone.(Calibrate) ...And it has gone, has it not?" (If emotion is not clear or anoth

TIME-SHIFT for SElF ALIGNMENT:

UNWANTED LIMITING BELIEFS

1. Use any ecological form of regression and orient client directly abovethe event. (Same as unwanted emotion process.)

2. Verify unwanted emotion and belief (internal dialogue.)

"Now, very quickly, go into that event and notice what the feeling is andwhat you're saying to yourself (deciding or believing), then float way upabove the event so you're looking down on it."

3. Preserve the learnings. (Can use identity reframe, see page 14.)

"Now, as you are way up above the event, looking (sensing) way downthere, ask your unconscious mind what it is, that you can learn from thatevent, the knowing of which, will allow you to let go of the(Calibrate.) Now, go ahead and preserve those learnings so that any time inthe future when you would have felt/believed you can now usethese learnings to guide you."

4. Release the emotion. "Now, staying way above your timeline, float wellbefore the event, or the chain of events, that led up to that event, turn andlook toward now and ask yourself, 'Where's the , now?. andwhere's that old belief now?'" (Calibrate. Reframe and/or healing lightmetaphor, if emotion doesn't release.)

5. Verify and clean-up if necessary. "Now float down into that event, but withall of the learnings you have now, and make sure that old emotion and belief

are gone ... (Calibrate) and they are gone, aren't they? .... Now, notice whatnew belief you're forming about yourself." (If the emotion and/or beliefdoes not clear or another unwanted emotion/belief is present, then reframe, cycle back to step I, or use another clean-up technique.)

6. Generalize and align. "And now notice, just like a row of dominoes, howall the events following this one begins to re-evaluate and re-align themselves in light of what you know and are believing now. Just continue floating back toward now, only as quickly as that old emotion is released from

each subsequent event, easily and quickly as your new belief is gettingstronger and stronger... And notice, that re-alignment can ripple all the wayout into the future and change all of your future memories in light of whatyou know now. Then come back to now only as quickly as your unconsciousmind has completed that alignment."

CLEAN-UP TECHNIQUES FOR TIME-SHIFTS:

WHAT TO DO IF THE EMOTION DOESN'T RELEASE

1. Re-do Release Step

If the emotion does not release, your first move should always be to assumethat the client has associated to the memory and/or is not well before theevent. In these cases here's a few possibilities.

a. Repeat release instructions making sure that your anchors arc set, or

b. Suggest: "As you're facing now, begin zooming back in timc al aninfinite speed until that emotion has released." (Calibrate.)

"Where's the emotion, now?"

2. Additional Learnings

"That's right, that emotion hasn't released yet because there is someother positive learning that you can learn from this event, the knowingof which will make it okay to let go of the emotions and begin healingnow."

3. Healing Light MetaphorYou can make the light an infinite source of positive resources, seeAlignment Therapy, HNLP. Here's a basic example:

"I'd like you to imagine an infinite source of healing light (or otherresource), and infinite just means more than what you could ever conceive, swirling above the top of your head that could begin to flow rightdown through the top of your head ...filling you up ...and flowing outyour heart...right down into that you down there and fill herlhimup ...until s/he is positively glowing ...fully healed and healthy."

4. Access the Quantum Field using Fourth PositionYou can also use this as the primary intervention. (See QuantumPerceptual Positions, HNLP)

"I want you to go ahead and pay attention to the space between, andaround, all of the individuals." (Pause to calibrate to client.)"And as youpay attention to the space between and around them, take a deep breath (dothis yourself) and exhale. As you then begin to inhale, just go ahead andbe the space in between." (pause to calibrate-you can anchor this kinesthetically if necessary.)

Ask, "Where is the (emotion), now?"

13

Page 16: NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED … · NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES ... John Overdurf C.A.C. & Julie Silverthorn, M.S. Certified Master Trainers

S. Reframing "Away From" Learnings into a New Positive Beliefabout Self.

(See Identity Reformation, HNLP) There are times that the learning mayseem to be positive, but it actually keeps the reference to the unwanted emotion active. For example, in the case of abuse, the client may say the learning is "It wasn't my fault." "It" continues to refer back to the event, keepingit alive. In this case say:

"That's right, it wasn't your fault... So {' d like you to ask your unconscious mind what it wants you to know about who you are today, in lightof the fact that it wasn't your fault. What does it want you to know in apositive way about who you are now?"

6. Highest Prime Directive

"{' d like to remind your unconscious mind that its highest prime directive is to preserve your body (since your unconscious mind is yourbody). Not letting go of this takes a lot of energy and is indirect conflict with preserving your body. So would your unconsciousmind be willing now to let go of the emotion and preserve your body?"

7. Chunk up to Highest Intention and Leverage(See Alignment Therapy, HNLP)

"1' d like your unconscious mind to consider its highest intention in notwanting to let go of (elicit it from client) ....andwhat is its purpose in that? ..etc."

Continue c~unking up until the highest intention is in direct conflictwith the unwanted emotion.

Then point out, "Does your unconscious mind realize that not letting goof is direct conflict with (highest intention)? So would

it be willing to let go of to the extent it can begin to feel(highest emotion)?" Calibrate.

14

Page 17: NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED … · NEURO-ENERGETICS AUDIO-TAPE SERIES TIME-BASED TECHNIQUES ... John Overdurf C.A.C. & Julie Silverthorn, M.S. Certified Master Trainers

8. Heal Others in the Event

Sometimes an emotion or belief won't release because the energy that isholding the pattern is in a representation of someone else in the memory(parents, grandparents, other authority figures, siblings, etc.). The other persones) representation needs to be healed first before the emotion can bereleased.

RE-IMPRINT METHOD

1. Identify a recent experience where the client experienced one of thefollowing:

a. A negative feeling which is pervasive across contextsb. A context where the client typically reaches an impasse

c. A limiting belief

Anchor this experience.

2. Assist the client to backtrack to the earliest memory with this negativefeeling. (The imprint period is from ages 0-7.)a. Kinesthetic backtrackb. Timeline

3. Dissociate the early scene.

4. Identify the major figures in the scene and

a. Identify the positive intention of each.b. Identify the resources needed by each to be congruent with their

intentions.

5. Anchor in the resources to the child first and run through dissociatedand then associated.

6. Anchor in resources with parents and run through dissociated and thenassociated.

7. Do all combinations ending with an associated experience from thechild's point of view.

8. Test recent experience from Step 1. Do this without anchors.

9. Future pace.

THE SLOPE OF THE TlMELINE

Often people will report that life seems to be an "up hill struggle" or they feel asthough they are "falling back into old ways." What they are telling you is theirtimeline may be sloped at a particular angle that no longer works.

Changing the slope of the timeline is a fast, effective way of creating momentumand motivation. When doing this pattern, remember a little bit of slope goes along way. If the angle of slope is too steep it may create disbelief or be incongruent with their personal ecology.

This process can be used as an intervention or generalization technique.

The Process:

Make sure you have a well-formed outcome before doing this process!

1. Elicit timeline and determine slope of the timeline in relationship to presenting issue and/or outcome.

2. Tilt the timeline downward to create momentum.

3. Condition until the kinesthetic of momentum is anchored to the appropriate context and/or trigger.

4. Ecology.

Suggest to unconscious: "Arrange the timeline in a way that is in the bestinterest of the total personality ..."

5. Test and Future Pace.

S.E.T. GOAL5. .. rO KNOW YOUR LlFECOURSpM

Future memories are often goals to the unconscious mind.

Goals are your values made physical.

You have goals whether you S.E.T. them or not.

Goals that motivate you are aligned with your values.

Goals are signs that you are on a particular LifeCourse™.

S - Simply stated in the now

Succinct and in the present tense."I am now

Specific

Important for goals that are more physical or concrete in nature.

E - Evidence

How will I know I have it?

What will I be seeing, hearing, feeling, thinking, etc.?

Ecology

What will happen when I have it?

How will it effect my life?Is it beneficial to me?

Is it beneficial for those around me?

Is it beneficial for the planet?

T - Toward what you really want

Am I moving toward what I want, more than moving away from what Idon't want?

Is it stated in the positive?Timed

When specifically do I want to have this happen?

Set a date and then let it go.

STEPS FOR REINFORCING A S.E.1. GOAL

IN YOUR FUTURE

1. Float out above the future and notice what is already on your timeline.

a. If the desired oucome is already in your future, follow steps 2-7.

b. If no conscious future memory is there, follow steps to Installing aS.E.T. Goal in Your Future (page 22).

c. If a disempowering future memory is already in your future, use a NLPtechnique to remove the uwanted feeling and/or belief associated withthe memory and recheck future.

2. Float down into the representation and fully associate to it, making sureit's S.E.T. the way you want it.

3. Pump it up! - The SubModalities.

4. Step out of the representation and float up above it.

5. Energize it, if necessary!Use the Mind Power breath.

6. Notice how the events between then and now realign themselves to support the S.E.T. goal.

7. Float back to now.

BIG PICTURE

1. Time heals. When it does we have moved on, learned and redirected ourfocus in life.

2. Everything that could have happened, influences what actually does happen.Richard Feynman

Based on calculations to discover an electron's fate, add up all of the possible histories. Many histories will cancel. Whatever is left represents whatwill actually occur, expressed as a pattern or sine wave of possibilities.

3. The past, present, and future are simultaneous. Time is a metaphor, itdoes not exist at the level of direct experience.

4. The past, present, and future are treated cybernetically by the brain(i.e., unconscious mind).

THE TECHNIQUE

This is useful for any nominalization because they are all dependent upon time.In the case of beliefs, decisions, values, etc., you still need to identify feelings, because they are often the best evidence that change has occurred following anintervention.

·Set frames: Time Heals - elicit reference experience.

1. Define problem and denominalize.

"How are you ing, now?" "How do you know you are____ ing, now?" You can use the meta model and/or elicit the strate

gy here; the key is to bring the feelings or behavior into present tense.

2. Have client float above their timeline and orient toward the future.

"Notice or think of yourself down there ing, and then turn andlook toward the future."

27

3. Discover future learnings."In a moment I'm going to ask you to consider: What are the future learnings that when conscious and integrated will allow the (nominalization) torelease? ...While you begin to float over the future until your unconsciousmind arrives above the point where the learnings are integrated. Now do youunderstand?"

"Ready ....go ...remembering to consider: What are the future learnings thatwhen integrated and conscious will allow the negative emotion to release?Just keep moving toward the future until you've learned what you needed tolearn."

If the client stops at some point above the timeline, but doesn't get the learnings then have them associate to the future memory.

4. Ratify the change."Knowing that (learning), notice how you're feeling, now?" Elicit positiveemotions, verbally, if necessary. "As you're feeling (k+) ..now, turn aroundand look back on the past and ..."

5. Bring resources back to now and redirect future direction and priorities." .. ,Begin floating back toward now only as quickly as your unconsciousrealigns your past in light of your learnings so your('re) present, focusing onwhat's really important in your life, now, and in the future."

6. Identify new future direction."As you look toward the future what's important to you, now?"

7. Test and verify the Future Pace.

SOURCING VALUES

This process can be used to access all types of resources. It is particularly us~ful

for integrating and generalizing the "energy" of a value throughout one's personal history, especially after a Values Interview has been completed.

1. Elicit the highest value in a particular context (life, family, career, etc.).Check ecology making sure this value is a "move toward" value and that itrepresents a hierarchy that is congruent and aligned.

2. Use a dissociated back track to return to "The Source" of the value.

"Float way up above your timeline and allow your unconscious mind totransport you all the way back to the Source of . Just let ittake you all the way back to the Source ...of _

3. Associate to "The Source" of the value.

"As you're ready, just float right down into the source of this value and letit begin to fill you up until your entire body is filled and inspired with itsenergy ..."

4. Generalize and integrate.

"Now begin to float up above your timeline only as quickly as you can main-tain all of the energy and inspiration of , and begin floating backtoward now as you continue to flow to each and every memoryof your personal history ...enlivening your entire timeline with the inspirationand energy of ...and notice that you can continue this all the wayout to all of your future memories and even beyond ..."

5. Re-orient to now.

" ...And then as you're ready, begin floating back toward now and notice howyour much brighter your life is glowing ...NOW."

OMNI POSITION SHIFT: UNWANTED EMOTIONS

1. Use any ecological form of regression and orient client directly abovethe event. (Can be done associated or dissociated.)

Associated:

"Just go ahead and allow that feeling to take you all the way back to the root

cause of and then make sure you are way up above it lookingdown on it."

Dissociated:

"Float way up above your timeline and begin floating back over the pastuntil you are directly above the event your unconscious mind has identifiedas the root cause of .

2. Preserve the learnings. "Now, as you are way above the event, looking(sensjng) way down there, ask your unconscious mind what it is, that youcan learn from that event, the knowing of which, will allow you to let go ofthe __ . (Calibrate) Now, go ahead and preserve those learnings so thatany time in the future when you would have felt you can nowuse the learnings to guide you."

3. Access the Quantum Field using Omni (Fourth) Position. * "1 want youto go ahead and pay attention to the space between, and around, all of theindivjdual(s)." (Pause to calibrate to client.) "...And as you pay attention tothe. space between and around them, take a deep breath (Master Practitionerdoes this at same time) and exhale. As you then begin to inhale, just goahead and be the space in between." (Pause to calibrate.) ...And ask, "Whereis the (emotion), now?"

4. Verify and clean-up if necessary. "Now float down into that event, but withall of the learnings you have now, and make sure is gone.(Calibrate) And it has gone, has it not?" (If emotion is not clear or anotherunwanted emotion is present, reframe, cycle back to step 1, or use anotherclean-up technique.)

5. Generalize. "And now, just like dropping a stone into a placid, serene bodyof water, notice how the wave of change can ripple through your body washing through all the memories connected to this one ...that's,right, and noticehow that change can ripple all the way out through all the time there is...tonow complete this integration."

6. Test and Future Pace.

*If the memory involves only one person, then ask them to access the spacebctwccn the adult floating above and the individual below.

OMNI POSITION SHIH: UNWANTED LIMITING BELIEFS

1. Use any ecological form of regression and orient client directly abovethe event. (See p. 30, step 1 for Unwanted Emotions.)

2. Verify unwanted emotion and belief (check internal dialogue).

"Now, very quickly, go into that event and notice what your feeling is andwhat you're saying to yourself (deciding or believing), once you know thisthen float way up above the event so you're looking down on it."

3. Preserve the learnings. (Can use identity reframe, see page 14.)

"And as you pay attention to the space between and around them, take a deep breath (do this yourself) and exhale. As you then begin to inhale, just go ahead and be the spacein between." (Pause to calibrate.)

...And ask, "Where is the (emotion), now? ...And the belief, notice it'sgone ...Now ...isn't it?" *Ifthe memory involves only one person, then ask them to access

the space between the adult floating above and the individual below.

5. Verify and clean-up if necessary. "Now float down into that event, but withall of the learnings you have now, and make sure that old emotion and belief

are gone ... (Calibrate) and they are gone, aren't they? ....Now, notice whatnew belief you're forming about yourself."

(If the emotion and/or belief does not clear or another unwanted

emotionlbelief is present, then reframe, cycle back to step 1, or use anotherclean-up technique.
