What Can I Do With a Major in…
Neuroscience? The Neuroscience Major at Cedar Crest College reflects the multidisciplinary nature of this exciting and growing field and provides a multilevel approach, from the molecular to the study of the mind. This could be the major for you if you are interested in the biological sciences and the workings of the nervous system and its relationship to behavior. The major can also prepare you for graduate education, medical school, or employment in research.
Making Connections: Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field built on the connections between Biology and Psychology. Neuroscientists address questions such as: How do our brains produce behavior, thought, and language? What goes wrong in psychiatric and neurological illness? How do drugs affect the brain? How do brains change over a lifetime, from development to aging?
Research Opportunities: Beginning in the first year, Cedar Crest Neuroscience students are involved in research projects ranging from molecular development to the effects of herbal medicines on the nervous system to animal learning and behavior.
Internships: Students enhance their Cedar Crest experiences with internships at major research centers including New York University, Merck, University of Kentucky, and SUNY Albany.
Alumnae Achievements: Recent graduates of the Neuroscience Program are now: attending Penn State and Stony Brook medical schools, studying Genetic Counseling at Arcadia University, and working in research at U. Penn, Penn State, Univ. of Southern California and Children's Hospital of Cincinnati.
