REACH Science AssessmentStudents participating in the REACH (formerly ICAS) Science Assessment will sit the test on Thursday 30 May 2019.

Term AccountsI would like to like to thank all our parents for their ongoing financial support which allows us to offer such a broad range of additional activities and programs for the students. Term accounts are due for payment by Friday 24 May 2019.

Pick-up ArrangementsIt is the procedure at Neutral Bay Public School that K-2 children are collected from their class teacher in the playground by their parents or carers for safety reasons. This takes a little extra time as parents need to park and come into the school. Around pick up time, parking around the school can be difficult. However, in the interests of safety, it is important that our K-2 children are picked up by you or your nominated carer.

Staff NewsI will be absent on extended leave from next Monday 27 May until the end of Term 2. Mr Victor Tan will be Relieving Principal and Ms Genevieve Carnegie will be Relieving Deputy Principal during this time.

Kindergarten News Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)2J have been lucky enough to gain three members this term. Thor, Thanos and Loki, our pet goldfish. Our topic in science is ‘Living Things’ and we are applying our knowledge in the classroom, as well as what we have learnt through ‘The Bay Way’, by taking on different responsibilities to take care our fishy friends. Some of our jobs include feeding the fish, checking the PH water levels, vacuuming the rocks, cleaning the glass and filter, and turning off the lights. We have also used our fish as inspiration for narrative writing and are using the class iPads to publish our writing.

In Science, Kindergarten have been learning about living and non-living things. We had a little piece of the country brought into the classroom this week, making the wonder of Mother Nature accessible to all of the Kindyland students. We have had the opportunity to watch eggs hatching in a specially designed incubator, and then observe the hatched chicks at play in a large, clear-sided brooding pen. We have learnt a lot about life cycles and the needs of animals. We are looking forward to witnessing the 14 eggs hatch and grow into yellow, fluffy baby chicks.

Stage 2 News (Years 3 & 4) Stage 3 News (Year 5 & 6)Well done to all the students in Year 3 for your efforts with NAPLAN over the last two weeks. We are all really proud of you and know you have all tried your very best. This week, 3S have started learning about Informative texts and how to brainstorm information before writing. We have written about koalas and created artworks. See our images of our Creative Koalas below. During mathematics lessons, we have been revising addition and subtraction strategies and we have looked at time. We have enjoyed a game called ‘Tick tock, look at the clock’ to record times throughout our day at school.

6S have been thoroughly enjoying the reading of “Nanberry” by Jackie French as part of our Stage 3 History program. The powerful descriptions of early Sydney, or “Warung”, inspired us to choose a sense of place, which we would call home or “my country”. We thought about the predominant colours of this place and then we explored traditional Aboriginal symbols to depict landforms, flora and fauna. Sometimes our artworks of “country” told a story. Other times, they just represented a moment in space and time. We hope you enjoy them.

Netball Reports Week 3 2019B TeamThe B Team put on their bibs with determination. The whistle blew, and we knew this would be an exciting game. We were playing Mosman. Mosman were great opponents, and there were some fabulous players. The player of the match was Juliet P (6M). She was a fabulous sport; it was her first ever netball game and she was brilliant! The B Team really needs to work on not stepping and sticking to our players. The end score was 13-7 to Neutral Bay. The B Team was amazing and should be very proud of themselves along with their fabulous opponent Mosman. We would be very happy to play them again any time.Written by Tess J (6F)

C TeamIt was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and so was the C Team. Every single player was bursting with energy, ready to play their very first match against Lane Cove West. Everyone played their very best, Amelie O (6F) and Eliza A (6M) both played really well. One thing we did well was finding space, but we could improve on not stepping and also maintaining a strong defence. The player of the match goes to Rose B-P (5N) for throwing and catching well and also for being a good sport. The overall score was 2-8 their way, but there’s always next time and we had lots of fun.Written by Sophie R (6F)

D1 TeamThe whistle blew. Willoughby started with the ball, and they scored. But this only made our determination to win grow. At the end of the game, the score was 11-4 to Neutral Bay. Janae R (6K), Lucy G (6F) and Shinna T (6P) scored. Our attack and defence was amazing, although I think we could stick to our players better. The player of the match is Janae R (6K). Willoughby played a tough game and did well, although we won. Overall, it was a great game.Written by Anna P (6K)

D2 TeamOn Friday, Neutral Bay D2 Team played Cammeray Public School. They played really well. The score was 2-1 to Neutral Bay. The player of the match just has to go to Audrey T (6M) for her flawless defence. She played GD and GK. Even though we played well, I think we should work on sticking to our players.Written by Sally M (6F)

E TeamThe whistle blew. Willoughby started the game. The opposing team passed quickly down the court. The first goal was scored easily by Willoughby. It was now our turn to start. We passed down the court, got to the hoop, and...missed. Willoughby caught the rebound and scored their second goal. The next goal was ours. We scored once more before halftime. The second half was marginally better, although we could improve our defence. The score remained pretty much tied throughout the game. However it was Willoughby that brought home a victory of 5-3 their way. The player of the match was Victoria B (6P).Written by Annie T (6M)

Boys TeamOn Friday, Neutral Bay Boys Netball team played against Cammeray, but we lost 5-4. Our team started with the ball but we soon lost possession. In the first half, the opposition scored 3 times and we scored once. In the second half, Nim W (6S) was injured so Oliver M (5A) was put in. Hamish J (5A) scored twice and I (Matthew Y 6M) scored once. I picked Hamish J (5A) as player of the match because he was a good sport and he cooperated a lot. Next time, we could improve by not stepping with the ball.Written by Matthew Y (6M)

P&C NewsNBPS Cocktail PartyOur next big social event is the Cocktail Drinks for Parents, Carers and Staff on Saturday 22 June. We hope to see you there.
