Conference “From the Baltic to the Arctic: alternative fuels in shipping” Organisers: WWF Russia, NEVA-International

The use of LNG as a bunker fuel is expanding worldwide. International regulations and the introduction of the ENA zone in the Baltic and the North Seas play a big role in this. The Russian Arctic is becoming one of the regions of the large-scale economic development with a focus on the extraction and export of various natural resources. A particularly important role in this is given to shipping. Due to the fact that IMO is actively promoting the idea of the banning the use of heavy fuel oils (HFO) in the polar waters, one mistake in the strategic choice of fuel for the new vessels could result in multimillion-dollar losses and to the serious environmental impact. Agenda:

Experience of Baltic in LNG use.

Projects of the ships on LNG for Arctic climate and ice conditions.

Source and distribution of LNG for shipping in Baltic and Arctic.

Conference Programme

Opening remarks.
