Silver Burdett MAKING MUSIC is a balanced and comprehensive program that provides developmentally appropriate music learning activities for students in grades kindergarten through eight. This sequential curriculum builds knowledge and skills within and across grade levels with content based on Sunshine State Music Standards. The program provides support that allows teachers to plan and implement motivational lessons to engage all students.

Student Editions Student Editions for Silver Burdett MAKING MUSIC present an extensive repertoire of music from many sources that provide opportunities for singing, playing, moving, improvising, composing, reading, notating, and listening. Additional features at Grade 6 include expanded opportunities to build instrumental performance skills with percussion, keyboard, and guitar instruction and to develop appropriate techniques for performing diverse styles of vocal music both solo and choral. A special section for Music Reading Practice reinforces class activities and provides enrichment for performances. Readable text for background information and independent study on the student pages link content to other curriculum areas and provide access for students with different levels and styles of learning. All lessons are based on examples of age and developmentally appropriate music that represents the diverse cultural and social backgrounds, special needs, and specific learning styles of Florida students.

Teacher’s Edition

Teacher Editions and ancillary components present a consistent three-part plan for all lessons. A two-part program at Grade 6 provides sequenced instruction for understanding musical elements and developing performance skills. The theme-based units are expanded to prepare students for the in-depth study provided through single-subject modules in Grades 7 and 8. Standards-based lessons support the Sunshine State Standards for Music and are aligned with common themes from other curriculum areas. Every lesson includes a Building Skills through Music Footnote with special activities that link lesson content to other curriculum areas. Differentiated instructional procedures that address accessibility for ALL students are included in the Teacher to Teacher and Skills Reinforcement Footnotes. These access points identified as On Target, Reinforcement, and Challenge levels increase opportunities for student success in building music skills and developing understandings.

Audio CD Package Audio CDs feature recordings to support lessons with appropriate vocal styles for students to model and adult voices for demonstrating expression, style, and cultural authenticity. Songs and listening selections are performed by specially selected choirs and professional musicians and are presented in a context specific to the origin of the music. Silver Burdett MAKING MUSIC includes tracks for stereo vocals, stereo performance, sung pronunciation practice, dance practice and performance, interviews, and assessments.
