    THE WEEKLY DEBATE

College basketball is all about recruiting, and Dave Rice’scalling card was his ability to recruit top-tier talent. Fromfrom his first class in 2012 to his final class in 2016,Rice reeled in four 5-star and eight 4-star recruits. With the addition of Rice, Nevada added former Calassistant coach Yann Hufnagel, who is also known forbeing a high-profile recruiter. Wolf Pack head coach EricMusselman has quickly earned a reputation of being anelite recruiter, but adding Rice and Hufnagel to the staffputs Nevada’s recruiting ability over the top. Expect acouple high-profile commits within the next few weeks.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST BENEFIT OF HIRING FORMER UNLV HEAD COACH DAVE RICE?

    IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

TRACK & FIELDCompetitors at the Brutus

Hamilton Invitational, from April22 to 23 in Berkeley, California,

experienced the wrath of thePack. The unrelenting membersof Nevada’s track and field

team went on to take fourseparate victories, in addition to

their seven top-three finishes.Meagan Woods and Lindsey

Adams gave the team a hugeboost early as they’d place firstand second, respectively, in

    the 1,500-meter. Junior Flyin

Olusola lived up to her firstname, as she flew past heropponents during the hurdles

competition. She’d took firstplace, crossing the finish lineat 14.02 seconds, nearly an

entire second before any otherchallengers. The Pack would go

on to take two more victories inboth the javelin throw, by seniorAlyssa Zunino, and the shot put,

    by freshman Brandi French.

WOMEN’S TENNISNevada tennis suffered adevastating defeat in Reno,

Nevada, on Saturday, at thehands of Mountain West foeFresno State. The 41st-ranked

Bulldogs could care less whetherit was the Pack’s senior day, as

    they routed Nevada’s women’stennis team in a 7-0 victory.

The most intense match of theday would take place between,Nevada’s 62nd-ranked doubles

team comprised of SheilaMorales and Blaga Delic,

squaring off against Fresno’s30th-ranked doubles teamconsisting of sisters Rana and

Mayar Sherif Ahmed. The matchwould go unfinished ending at

3-3, as the other two doublesmatches would finish, both going

    in favor of Fresno State.

    MEN’S GOLFNevada ended up taking

seventh place at the MountainWest Championships in

Tucson, Arizona, out of anoverall field consisting of11 teams. While Nevada’s

final team standing wasmediocre, sophomore Corey

Eddings nearly took first placeindividually. Eddings went into

the final day with the lead, but just fell short as TrevorClayton of Fresno State would

take first place. Nevada’s headcoach, Jacob Wilner, stated

that “playing with the lead ingolf is one of the hardest things

to do in sports i n my opinion.”Even though Eddings was therunner-up, he has a lot to be

proud of, as he bested 52 other

    golfers in the tournament.

    WENDY’S 4 FOR$4Wendy’s took the

    fast food world by storm

when they introduced their4 for $4 in October of last

year. A hamburger, smallfries, chicken nuggets and

your choice of drink ( frostyincluded) for $4. It doesn’tseem fiscally responsible to

offer so much food for thesame price as a happy-hour

    beer. Several fast food chains

have responded to the dealby offering a similar option

(I’m looking at you BurgerKing) but none compare.

Here’s everything you need to know about the statusof both UNLV and Nevada basketball. Dave Rice, whowon a championship as a player for the Rebels in the1990s and coached the team for five seasons, is now anassistant coach of the in-state rivals. Eric Musselmanhas performed miracles in the past year and Rice is thelatest. Rice will undoubtedly help to recruit, especiallyfrom Bishop Gorman High School where his brother isthe coach. If Musselman leaves in the next year or two,Nevada has themselves a very serviceable plan B.
