NEVADA SENIOR SERVICES
STAY HEALTHY—STAY COOL This July and
August. The atmosphere of pride and patriotism will
be strong as we continue our fun Red , White and
Blue Peace activities. The color Red represents
energy, White represents purity, and Blue has shown
to lower one’s heart rate, blood pressure and calms breathing. We are
celebrating our country’s birthday the entire month of July- A great time
to enhance our pride in America and the privilege of being an American
Citizen and three American values: Freedom, Equality and Justice for
ALL. July is kicking off with a wonderful 4th of July, Bar-B-Que prepared
by Chefs Lori, Darren and Sous Chef Cynthia. LOOKING INTO AUGUST…
Celebrating Happiness-Happens. Happiness is a choice. Be happy in the
moment that you can smile, laugh, dance & sing. August is Make a New
Friend and Art Appreciation Month. Art expands our creative and
intellectual horizons and allows us to be free to express the beauty we
all have inside. We will have a Hawaiian Luau on August 21st at Jones.
We would like everyone to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirt or dress.
There will be Karaoke, fun games and prizes. Aloha! Backyard House
Party on August 26 at Henderson. Dress cool and casual for delicious
Bar B Que, music, and fun outdoor games! Enjoy!

Coronavirus Concerns Update
In accordance with CDC guidance, to protect our adult day care centers and all of our
vulnerable senior clients, we are making every effort to not risk the wellbeing of our own staff
or our clients by allowing anyone to be exposed to individuals who could bring the COVID-19
virus in to our facilities.
What Is Nevada Senior Services Doing to Protect Your Loved One? We have doubled our cleaning efforts including facility disinfecting both during the day at night.
We have provided additional staff training including precautions.
We have increased prevention measures including our emphasis on staff hand washing and use of
gloves and masks.
We have increased monitoring of staff and clients’ health looking for any possible symptoms.
We are in close touch for updates with the Southern Nevada Health District.
What Do Older Adults & Individuals with Disabilities Need to Know? Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Keep your social distancing 6 to 10 feet from others
Stay home when you are sick
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. (AND...wash your hands!)
Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or
wipe.
Wash Your Hands!
Wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds. (Still the rule)
Guidelines for our returning day care center clients and out of state travel or visitors:
Contact Nursing at your center.
Any adult day care client who has been absent for any period of time, must be fully screened by our own
Nursing Staff before re-admittance.
If an adult day care and/or respite client has traveled or has been in contact with a visitor from out of
state, or overseas, it is our policy that they must self-quarantine for 14 days once they return to their
primary residence or from the date of their last out of state visitor contact. It is our Policy to record the
date when the 14 days of self-quarantine has commenced and when it will end.
*If you believe your loved one has had an exposure to someone with Coronavirus or if you have any concerns about
your loved one’s health, please check-in with our nurses or ask Dee Dee (702.333.1518) to have one of our nursing
team schedule a telephone call with you. Our clients are our most important concern. We will provide you with
updates should additional information become available. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

Dehydration & Older Adults By Catie Chung PhD, RN, CNE, Touro University NV
We’ve already had plenty of sunshine and heat, haven’t we? Some of us love
it, some not so much. But all of us need to keep in mind how much the heat
affects the bodies of older adults. Older bodies don’t feel thirst as quickly as younger
bodies do. So by the time an older adult realizes they are thirsty, dehydration may have
started. That’s why it’s so important to encourage beverages and drink throughout the day.
Water is the best! If you are not a fan of plain water, try adding fruit right into the water for
a nice refreshing change. Any beverage is better than no beverage, but if caffeinated
beverages are part of the menu, try to mix in some non-caffeinated beverages as well. If
someone has memory loss, the risks of dehydration are even higher because people with
dementia can’t always express their thirst or discomfort. For older adults, dehydration can
cause increased confusion, dizziness, and urinary tract infections. And we know those are
not good for anyone! Stay Cool– Stay Hydrated!
