IntroductionThis presentation is based on information regarding remote or cloud storage. Its objective is to make a compelling business case for our organization to consider the associated benefits of storing data in the cloud. The benefits gained from such a project will out-weigh the risk. It shall also serve as a platform for our organization to gain competitive advantage over our rivals.

The advantages and disadvantages of cloud storage

Disadvantages:The cloud is only as good as the internet connectionThe service provider maybe off-shore, affecting privacy and governanceData ownership is contentiousSpeed may be an issuePerceptions over security.

The scope to which our organizations should utilise Cloud services

Plan the change.Do the change (test sample).Check the results to confirm the objective has been met.Act on the results.

When proven successful it will be rolled out through the rest of the organization.

The infrastructure required for cloud storage

IT infrastructure requirements include: Hardware platformsOperating systemsEnterprise software applicationsData managementNetworking platformsInternet platformsSystem integration servicesand a cloud service provider.

Best-practice for how Cloud should be managed

Agreements should be in place for:Security and data protectionService levelsWho has access to the dataIf the provider is offshore what is the governance and regulation that controls the service provider.

Internal Rate of Return Investment can be repaid in 3 years based on the modelling in Scenario 1.

Typically the higher the IRR, the greater the conviction should be to undertake the project.
