Your support throughout 2017 and into 2018 is phenomenal and it is a credit to you all, every single member of our great club “The Australian Budgerigar Society Inc.”, your support continues to grow so in 2018 let’s continue that momentum every month at our General Club Meetings. Keep up the number of birds in 2018.

Well done everybody, congratulations to the winners. This impressive number of budgerigars being benched at every meeting now allows everybody to talk and discuss their budgies with the judge and talk to their friends about their super budgies, how the breeding year is going and problems they may be encountering. This makes for a great night, great budgies, great friends and new mates. Rule Change: Young Budgies are Blue Ring until the end of December now. Our Table shows are for young budgerigars (Blue ring/Red ring) and nestfeather budgerigars (Red Ring). With the New Rule for 2018 Blue Rung Budgies can be Shown as Young Birds until the end of December. Congratulations to all of our members that showed at this year’s SQBBA Futures Show, and for those members that could not make the day get ready for next year. This year we came in 5th as a club out of 10 clubs competing on the day, this was a very respectable result for our great club and the pathway for our Novice and Intermediate exhibitors looks very promising. Considering the number of exhibitors that showed on the day we did very well. Look out next year as our new members and our current Novice and Intermediate exhibitors start to excel on the show bench, based on the budgies coming to our Table Shows the quality is outstanding.

    Well Done Everyone

  • Budgerigar Management in my Twilight Years By Stan Richardson Scotland U.K.

As I am fast approaching being 74 years young and not quite as fit and active as I use to be, I

decided to look at how I could make the daily running of my budgerigar establishment a little

    easier to handle.

I said establishment but that is an over statement, as I only have a relatively small garden and

could only find space for a 10 by 8 foot wooden shed with a 12 x 3 foot outside flight, in addition

I had a bit of ground running up the side of the garage 20 x 3.5 feet. On this I have a 7 x 3 foot

shed with a 12 x 3 foot outside flight and this is used to house the current year young birds. All

outside flights are covered on top with plastic sheeting and also down the sides in the perching

area as in the past I have been bothered with Kestrels trying to get at the birds.

Now let us get back to the main theme of this article, the main birdroom has twelve breeding

cages along 6 ft 6inches of the back wall, four rows of 3. At one end I have an inside flight 8 x 3

feet and opposite the cages I have another inside flight 5 x 2.5 feet. Access to the birdroom is

    through the outside flight.

To keep the aviary in good shape I have always emulsioned out twice every year, but even then

the walls soon got soiled with bird droppings had had to be periodically cleaned down. So this

year I decided to tile the birdroom out including the floor. I realise that once tiled it could be a

problem if You have trouble with mite, but as I have not experienced any problems in this area

I decided to go ahead and in addition make sure every crevice was sealed.

Now to the problems, the shed was lined with hardboard but over the 13 years it has been up

this had warped, now I do not know if you have tiled on this surface but I can assured you that

it is a nightmare, as I had to pack out for the warping and this meant I could only put up one

row and then had to wait for it to set before doing the next, this meant a relatively short task

dragged on for well over three weeks especially when you are trying to work around 100

    budgies.

Once the walls were completed I set about tiling the floor, this being of the compressed chipped

board type, laying the tiles was straight forward and took no time at all and once grouted

looked great but then problem number two arose. The tiles were secure but as the flooring is

only supported on runners, after walking on it the grouting started to cracked so I had to

remove all the grouting and then seal with a white bathroom sealant which is flexible.

The birdroom has now been finished, and although it looks a little clinical the birds seem happy

enough an my chores have been reduced, bird dropping hit the tiles and slide off on to the floor,

the tiles only needing a quick wipe once a week

Everyone needs and interest and this truly explains the dedication and enthusiasm Stan has for the Budgerigar fancy and the hobby he still loves and enjoys.

I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE FANCY WHO HAVE FOLLOWED IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF STAN, ONCE THIS HOBBY IS IN YOUR BLOOD YOU’RE HERE TO STAY..

  • TRIBUTE TO THE ANZACS To All current and past members of the Australian Budgerigar society Inc. who served, your sacrifice,

dedication, mateship, courage, determination and character will never be forgotten, your legacy is our lives, are forever forged in history and memories encompass future generations in Australia and New Zealand.

    The Ode

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them.

The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in The Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Great War in 1914. This verse, which became the Ode for the Returned and Services League, has been used in association with commemoration services in Australia since

    1921.

For the Fallen With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,

England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flash of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,

Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.

There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them.

  • JOKES OF THE MONTH

    A Push Please

A man is in bed with his wife when there is a knock at the

door. He rolls over and looks at his clock, and it's 3:30 in

the morning. "I'm not getting out of bed at this time," he

    thinks, and rolls over.

Then a louder knock follows. "Aren't you going to answer

that?" says his wife. So he drags himself out of bed and

goes downstairs. He opens the door and there is a man

standing on the porch. It didn't take the homeowner long to

    realize the man was drunk.

"Hi there," slurs the stranger. "Can you give me a push??"

"No, get lost! It's half past three. I was in bed," says the man and he slams the door. He goes

back up to bed and tells his wife what happened and she says, "That wasn't very nice of you.

Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from

the babysitter and you had to knock on that man's house to get us started again? What would

have happened if he'd told us to get lost?"

"But the guy was drunk," says the husband. "It doesn't matter," says the wife. "He needs our

help and it would be the Christian thing to help him."

So the husband gets out of bed again, gets dressed, and goes downstairs. He opens the front

door, and not being able to see the stranger anywhere he shouts, "Hey, do you still want a

push?" And he hears a voice cry out, "Yeah, please." So, still being unable to see the stranger

    he shouts, "Where are you?"

And the drunk replies, "Over here, on the swing."

    Supermarket Management

A guy goes to the supermarket and notices an attractive woman waving at him. She says hello. He’s rather taken aback because he can’t place where he knows her from. So he says, "Do you know me?" To which she replies, "I think you’re the father of one of my kids." Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever

been unfaithful to his wife and says, "My God, are you the stripper from my bachelor party that I made love to on the pool table with all my buddies watching while your partner whipped my butt with wet celery?" She looks into his eyes and says calmly, "No, I’m your son’s teacher."
