MARIGOLDThere’s a new marigold in the pond — Big Duck Gold from Ameriseed, an All-America Selections Ornamental Seed National Winner. Big Duck Gold sports very large golden-yellow flowers

that continue blooming throughout the season. These marigolds begin the season putting energy into establishing a solid, healthy plant with clean, deep-green foliage. Then, when it starts blooming, watch out. Full, “plump” blooms top the 15-inch plants and continue blooming through the end of the season. You’ll want to use these marigolds everywhere: in beds and containers; in landscapes as mini hedges, back of the border plants or even as a filler in new perennial beds.

Coco cut flower marigold series from Sakata Seed America offers three colors, including the deepest orange on the market. Coco features uniform earliness, long stem length and fully double blooms. Suitable for tighter space production, especially when disbudded. Colors include bright, cheerful Yellow, rich Gold and striking Deep Orange. With Coco cut flower marigolds, it’s always a fiesta.

An addition to Hem Genetics’ Edible Ornamental line is Tagetes filifera Dropshot, a marigold grown for its

tasty foliage. Used as an herb, it tastes like sweet licorice. The attractive plant adds texture in the garden or mixed containers with finely divided ferny foliage and a compact habit. It’s excellent in salads, soups, fish dishes or muddled into your favorite cocktail.

NASTURTIUMNasturtium Baby Rose from Takii Europe is an All-America Selections Ornamental Seed Regional Winner for the Northeast, Heartland and Mountain/Southwest. This wonderful rose-colored nasturtium is perfect for today’s gardens. Baby Rose is a petite-flowered, mounding variety with healthy, dark foliage that is ideal for containers and small-space gardens. AAS’ expert judges praised the uniformly compact plants that sported flowers with consistent coloration. Their compact habit means less “flower flopping” with their blooms remaining upright throughout the season. The rose color contrasts beautifully with the dark-green foliage. Both the leaves and flowers are edible.
