Raspberry Rush, a dynamite new bicolor, patterned petunia will steal her heart. PHALAENOPSISDurban from Anthura is a compact

phalaenopsis plant with velvety, deep purple flowers with a white edge. This variety is vigorous and with the right cultivation schedule it produces a high percentage of plants with multiple branches. This South African beauty has a powerful appearance.

Oxford from Anthura is as famous and timeless as the English university town with its many beautiful historic buildings. The white flowers of Oxford, about 11 to 12 cm in diameter, are gracefully arranged on the spikes, forming a brilliant image and therefore very suitable for making cascades.

An often-underestimated characteristic of phalaenopsis is the shelf life. This is absolutely unsurpassed with Oxford, with an average of 20 weeks. The big white flowers give Oxford an exclusive look. Oxford will undoubtedly claim its own place in the top segment of large-flowered white orchids.

Rare cool blue flowers represent a breeding breakthrough for Rockin’ Blue Suede Shoes, a Salvia guaranitica hybrid from Proven Winners. is a series of tomatoes available in four colors intended for pot culture for the patio gardener. Determinate varieties and prolific producers of very tasty and sweet tomatoes, these are matched across the colors to mature at the same height of 12 to 14 inches, which allows growers to mix colors in larger containers. Available in Red, Orange, Creamy Yellow and Rosy Pink, their fruits have an attractive pointed plum shape. A slightly more compact series, Funnyplums, is also being introduced this year.

VERBENADanziger is bringing long-lasting color back with two Vanessa verbena series. Vanessa are bred for mildew

tolerance and flower power. Danziger tests prospective varieties by exposing the seedlings to mildew. Only those that stay clean and in full color are brought to market. The new Vanessa Compact series brings the same big color of the original Vanessa in a smaller package. This series features a compact habit in more than 10 color options, including Compact Bicolor Purple, Compact Neon Pink and Compact Violet. Recommended for quarts or tidy hanging baskets, the Compact series provides excellent mildew resistance and won’t cycle out of flower.

VINCACora XDR Catharanthus roseus from Syngenta Flowers is the vinca that fights back. It offers season-long flowering and survival in landscape plantings. It is also highly resistant to 10 of the most virulent isolates of Phytophthora nicotianae that cause Phytophthora blight on annual vinca. This was confirmed in collaboration with Clemson University. Cora XDR has improved branching, uniformity and free-flowering, ideal for premium packs and

small to larger pots. It has large, showy flowers and bicolor patterns that are in high demand. New colors/varieties are Deep Strawberry, Punch, Magenta Halo and Hotgenta.

The new lavender-blue Blueberry is now the newest color in the Hem Genetics series of trailing/spreading vinca, Solar Avalanche. Prolific flowering and large flowers with broad, overlapping petals from the first flowers produced are all selection parameters for this series. They make beautiful baskets and in-ground beds. You will note that they don’t produce the occasional odd upright stems that you often see from other trailing vinca series — these are flat as a pancake. This is a series that if you haven’t tried, you really need to do so and see them in person.
