THREATS for M(I)L in Croatia!

• No M(I)L policy at all. Why did we ignore AVMSD?• Poor MIL manuals and training materials.• No legal definition of media education.• No coordination between ministries.• No official inter-ministerial body or committee.• No law that designates a clear authority to oversee media

education.• No responsibility of public institution in relation to MIL

programs.• LLL MIL programs?

New approach

• We cannot promote and implement MIL without ICT sector.

• It’s not wise to promote just one supplier • NGO’s are still the best promoters of MIL in Croatia.• Politicians: no literacy on MIL.• Political parties have low MIL capacity and awareness!• We need „grand coalition” for MIL. • MIL as a part of „acquis communautaire”?• Computer science/informatics as a optional subject?

Can we count on our Government?

• „Not so long ago Department for Informatics had an annual budget of 300 mil. Kn (39 mil. E).

• Today not only there is no budget, but there is also no Department…

• When we equip all our schools with IT equipment we will be in a position to have informatics as a new compulsory subject.”
