We are challenging our Facebook followers and Bailey Bariatric staff to 1000 minutes of exercise in September! This is a voluntary challenge and every person needs to listen to their body and understand their own limitations. The challenge is from September 1st through September 30. Post your workouts on the Facebook event page. This is NOT a contest. This is a personal challenge for each person who would like to participate. Exercise is physical activity such as, Zumba, running, basketball, kicking the soccer ball in the front yard with your kids, pushing a stroller for a walk, stretching, swimming at the lake and other forms of exercise.

Example Post: “Just did 30 minutes of water aerobics. I have done 420 minutes this month!” Are you up for the challenge? We will not post rankings or track your personal minutes. Your decision to post and participate is based on your willingness to put in the work!

Here are a few posts from last month...

Tips from Rene’

Tips from Rene’ can be found on Facebook throughout the month. Rene’ Norman RD/LD is one of our Bariatric Dietitians and provides information and tips regarding nutrition. Rene’ is one of two dietitians in the United States that contribute articles to BariatricPal.com.

One Size Does Not Fit All

By the time patients begin their bariatric journey, they’ve been on just about every diet plan and weight loss product that has ever been advertised. Improving your nutrition status to reach and maintain a healthy weight takes a life time of learning and effort.

As nutrition science evolves, we have begun to realize that a person’s response to a nutrition plan will be unique to that patient. At times you will hear confusing and conflicting bariatric nutrition information while visiting with patients in waiting rooms, in support groups and from online bariatric blogs. The goal of the registered dietitian is to combine our nutrition guidelines, evidence based practices and your uniqueness to find a nutrition plan that works for you. Your uniqueness includes a lot variables, such as: medical history, lab work, food preferences, medications, economic situation, education level, culture, genetics, age, gender, food preferences, food intolerances or allergies, eating behavior, stress, sleep quality, physical activity, basal metabolism, nutrition knowledge status, life style and work schedule. These variables explain why some people lose weight and feel great with a diet, while others might gain weight or become cranky on the same diet.

Discovering your unique nutrition plan is a life long journey of learning and effort. Come along for the ride. We are here to help you at every stage of your bariatric journey.

Call 918-376-8410 to make an appointment with the dietitian.

Deborah Dobbins had her surgery 10 months ago and has lost 95 lbs. Deborah gets excited to see how active her family has become. Deborah also shares how her mindset has changed as she has lost weight. “Sometimes I still have that image of my old self in my head, but I tell myself I don’t have to worry or be afraid anymore if I’m going to fit in a booth or be constrained by my weight. I’m looking into going zip lining and other activities now that I’m not held back by the weight limits anymore.”

“ I have two small kids and I want to be around for this. I want to be

around to have grandkids one day. But, I also want to be active with them.

I don’t just want to sit and watch them play... Metabolic surgery changed

my life and changed my family’s life” —Tracy McClendon
