To maintain Vsource well above 10 kV (beam quality request) and to minimize the extraction energy W (physics request), one has to increase the injection radius Rinjec of the cyclotron for a fixed extraction radius. The design of a new inflector is necessary.

operation• >3 weeks operation has been proven possible • Stable efficiencies, some improvements possible (?)
– The SPIRAL 1 charge breeder has been installed in the beam lines and confirmperformances shown in LPSC • Efficiencies and charge breeding times are ok• Optimized magnetic configuration may give higher efficiencies• Ongoing work for reliable operation of slow control, beam optics
– Should be completed by Feb. 2018
– Documentation for internal safety authorization is being prepared• Should be completed by Feb. 2018
– The RIB commissioning is planned in beginning of run 1 • 17F and 38mK production test for accepted experiments• First experiments in the course of 2018 depends on the availability of experimental
setups
Conclusion
• Ongoing R&D for new beams– Priorities of R&D within GANISOL reviews after every PAC meeting– Beams from C target + FEBIAD
• Production tests of 25Al, 30P, possibly 56Ni during the RIB commissioning• Production tests of A> 50 beams from the fragmentation of 86Kr to be
scheduled
– New targets• Nb targets for the production of high intensities for 30<A<40
– First on-line tests at earliest 2019
• Fusion evaporation targets (N=Z / neutron deficient isotopes)– Program in collaboration with ALTO, first on-line test at SPIRAL earliest 2020
• Perspectives – Further Target ion sources developments for new beams (LoIs)– Not evaluated: extending the acceleration capabilities
• Towards lower energies (E<=1AMeV): CIME inflector modifications• Towards higher energies (E>15 AMeV): EBIS charge breeding
