New Beginnings New Staff at Powell CDC I am happy to announce that Powell CDC has added two new Full-time staff members to our program in the last month. Kristin Hepworth is a new Family Therapist who has joined our Family Counseling Program and will be working with Teresa Furneaux to provide family programming, groups and educational lectures. She will also be seeing clients/family members on a fee for service basis for people who would like to use their insurance to see a Family Therapist. Kristin is Master’s Level Counselor (recent Liberty University graduate) who is also certified as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor. We are happy to have her join our team. We also are pleased to announce the addition of Rebecca Seabrooke, a new Mental Health Counselor, who has joined Powell to provide individual mental health counseling alongside Jerry Owens. She will be seeing Powell patients and former patients and will be available to see fee for service insurance clients as well. She recently graduated from Drake University, and brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to our program. Please welcome Kristin and Becky when you see them! Aftercare Coordinator Changes Many of you know Lila Stafford, who has been our Aftercare Coordinator for the last five years. She has been responsible for making sure our Aftercare Groups have training, updated schedules, packets and regular communication. She has also been instrumental in arranging for our Sober Under the Stars event and our Annual Alumni Banquet coordination each year. Recently, Lila has decided she would like to take on a different role at Powell CDC, and she and one of our long-time Evening Outpatient Counselors, have decided to do a job share. In December of this year, Lila and Dee Hummel will begin alternating every three months to provide Intensive Outpatient Counseling to one of our evening groups. This will leave us with an opening for a new Aftercare Coordinator, and we will begin this search early this fall. We will definitely miss having Lila as our Aftercare Coordinator, but we are glad to keep two staff members by doing a job share that allows them time off to enjoy extended time with their families and friends. Tuesday September 20, Wednesday September 21, and Thursday September22, are going to begreat nights for Powell Alumni. “What’s going on” you might be asking yourself? We are holding ourannual Phonathon to raise money for the Powell Chemical Dependency Program. We all have theopportunity to give back to Powell in one of two ways those nights. We can either help out with the callingprocess itself or when someone calls, you have the opportunity to respond with a gift in kind. The goodnews is that you can delegate how you would like your money spent. It can be gifted to the PatientAssistance Fund, the Educational Fund, or be designated for a specific event that Powell is sponsoring. Itis up to you. So, feel thefreedom of knowing thatyour hard earned money isgoing exactly where youwould like it go!

We will also be askingyou this year forconfirmation on your mailingaddress as well as your emailaddress. Our goal is to getour list of alumni up to dateso that we can start sendingthe Powell newsletter in anemail. We are trying to cutdown on expenses. If anyonewould still like to get thepaper edition, that will bepossible as well. Simply tellthe person calling from thePhonathon how you wish toreceive your news. If youwould like to help out withthe calling either on Tuesday,Wednesday or Thursdaynight, please call Cheryl at515-263-2422 or Lila at 515-263-2402. We would like tothank Strategic America andJim Stafford for hosting usfor this calling event for thepast five years. This will bethe last year at this facility asJim is retiring the end ofDecember.
