ANITA METHODIST MATRICULATION HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL

We are overwhelmed with joy because by the grace of

God we have published two editions of Hopscotch. We

have planned and organized every section of this

edition with much care and concern. It was a difficult

task to choose and compile the articles, poems and

drawings as every single article was very precious and

valuable. When we saw the talents of the students we felt

very small and proud at the same time. Hopscotch is a

great platform to exhibit the talents of our friends. We

really hope you like the new edition and would continue to support us. Hopscotch is a team

effort and we have learnt that putting out hearts and hands together can be fun.

At the outset I praise God for Anita Methodist Higher Secondary School which was instituted by noble missionaries with a vision of imparting holistic education to the children. In the Bible, Jesus spoke about talents bestowed to each individual through a parable and He expects everyone to multiply the talents and use them for the Glory of God. Anita Methodist provides opportunities to exhibit the innate gifts and talents given by God through

various means and the best is our Campus Magazine.

I congratulate the teachers in-charge and the club members for their effort and the participants for their unique contribution. I wish to encourage all the students to explore and develop their talents and thereby bring happiness to the people around.

A BIG FAMILY

The blessings of a big familyAre only seen by a few.A few of the chosen onesThat God has given this blessing to.

The blessings are so numerousIts hard to even start.To number or to name them butThey all hold a place in the heart.

The heart of every person in aBig family is unique,Its uniqueness makes us specialAnd should not be critiqued.

The memories that are madeAre more precious than gold.From babies to weddingsFrom young to old.

From grandparents to grand children And every one in between,The many special relationshipsCould have never been foreseen.

Thank you God For the family that I treasure,Through the good times and the badThe memories cannot be measured.

ENGLISH POEM

The road in the forest stands deserted in the dawn. Suddenly an Audi A6 passes by. Sitting in it was Mr. George with his daughter, Jenny. The forest which they drove through was bought by Jenny's father who told his daughter that he was going to cut all the trees and build a luxury hotel in the forest. Her father also told that the local tribals knew about it, but not the children. So Jenny was instructed by her father not to reveal anything to the children. Her father and his men had put up tents to stay and were planning where to build the hotel.

Jenny started playing with the tribal children. However, she could not play during early mornings and late evenings as she developed wheezing. So her father asked her to stay in the tent during early mornings and late evenings.

Next morning the tribal children called out, “Jenny, come out and play with us. It's not good to stay in the tent all day”. Jenny answered “It's too cold in the morning. I'll come at 8 o' clock”. Later in the day when the tribal children saw her returning early they asked “Why are you going early? We still have two hours to dark!” Jenny replied, “I can't stay out in the cold air of evening because I have fever and wheezing” and went inside after saying goodbye. So every evening Jenny went to the tent before the sun went down and came late in the morning after the sun came up. The children were not happy about this.

One morning when Jenny was lying in her tent, they brought a secret fruit which was red and shining. Taken by surprise Jenny asked, “What fruit is it?”. They answered, “The name of the fruit is 'secret'. You will have to eat it today. We will bring another tomorrow, and we will bring it for five days, then you will be as right as rain”. Looking puzzled she ate the fruit. They kept giving her the fruit for five days. After five days as they said she was as right as rain. The children also told her that the forest was full of such wonderful medicinal plants and herbs. After a couple of days her father Mr.George was about to call the woodcutters to cut the trees in the forest with their huge machines. However Jenny stopped him in time. She said, “Dad as you know I have been with no fever or wheezing for the past few days, do you know what the reason is?”Mr. George replied “No, tell me”. Jenny said “I ate a red fruit for five days” Mr.George was surprised and asked “What….What's the name?” “The tribal children said it was 'Secret' ”said Jenny. She continued “The forest is home for many such precious plants. This is home for these tribals. Dad, would you reconsider your decision of destroying this forest, please!” Mr.George was in dilemma. Jenny's persuasion made him realize that it was not a good idea to cut the trees. He agreed to find another place for the hotel.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES

2. WORKSHOP ON POETRY WRITINGA workshop on poetry writing was

conducted for the students of classes VI, VII and VIII. Mrs. Gayathri, teacher from Abacus school conducted the workshop. Nearly thirty students participated eagerly along with their English teachers. The workshop was packed with activities. At the end of the day students having learnt the nuances of

poetry writing adorned our bulletin boards with their poems.

1. STAFF TRAINING A training session was conducted

for teachers by Mrs. Idska de Jong from Netherlands. The session was about playing different roles, equally and effectively.

3. EXCHANGE PROGRAMMEFour students from eleventh grade- Joshua, Jonathan Jabez, Ruth Gethsie and Abisha Grace were privileged to travel to Netherlands as a part of student exchange programme with Greijdanus School. They stay in Netherlands from the 10th March, to 3rd April. The programme aims at helping our students appreciate universal brotherhood.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES

4. ENGLISH SPEAKING AND MOVIE SCREENINGTo motivate the children to speak in English our school has introduced a new system. If a child doesn't speak in vernacular during the class hours or during breaks, he/she will be rewarded with an opportunity to watch an english movie inside an A/c hall in our school premises. Movies such as Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Beauty and the Best, Winnie the Pooh, Noddy and Metilda were screened. The experience was made complete with hot buttery popcorn!

6. GUIDES CAMPSOver night Camp was organized by the School for all the Guides, Scouts, Bulbuls and Cubs. It was on 21st and 22nd March. On the first day the guides cooked the food for all and the Bulbuls, Cubs and Scouts made non-fire cooking. Mrs. Henrietta Franklin was the examiner for the overnight camp. On the 22nd March the guides woke up at 5.30am and started to cycling at 6.30 am to Loco Works, Perambur and returned by 10.00 am. Senior Guides conducted games for the Junior Guides.

5. FAREWELL The Valedictory function of class XII students was held on February 22nd in our school premises. The day started with great excitement and merriment. The boys looked dashing in their suits and blazers and girls who never fail to put on a show, were draped in gorgeous saree bought for the occasion. Dr.Robinson Thangaraj Ph.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof. Dept. of Mathematics graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

STAFF MESSAGE

19 years in Anita Methodist! Every day was a new experience with my seven year olds from class II. At the end of the every academic year I was delighted to see their performance. I have learnt much from my little ones. As the Academic Supervisor of Nursery department, I learnt to depend on God's grace and love. It was great pleasure working with this department with a motherly set of teachers serving three and four year olds. As years went by Anita Methodist became part of me, I became a friend to every staff of the school. Every Friday we friends came together to listen and talk about our best friend Jesus. This strengthened and bound us together. Anita Methodist is place where we can meet and know Jesus. All glory to God who called me by my name.

I joined this school in 1990 and have been a part of Anita Methodist for the past 24 years. My experience in the school is precious, as this school has seen my happiness and sorrows. This school made me rise above my sorrows, and make a worthy career. I was able to send students to 'Dakshana Bharat Hindi Exams' in which students faired well. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one that I have had the pleasure of working with. I owe you all a great deal and I wish you all a very best for the future.
