From the Assistant City Manager:

The Moore Parks & Recreation Department takes great pleasure in presenting to you the Moore Parks and Recreation Fall-Winter Activity and Events Guide. You will find it a valuable resource for planning some fun in the coming months. Activites abound within the pages of this guide.

Even as the leaves change and the temperature gets colder there are still a great many things to do at your favorite park, trail, or playground. This guide details our parks, programming, and events for the Fall and Winter 2015. There is a lot planned. Take advantage of the great park system we are fortunate to have.

We strongly believe that our parks are our future. They add quality to our lives and play a critical role in the fabric of our community. The Moore Parks and Recreation Department strives to improve our parks and facilities on a continuing basis. On November 6, 2012 the citizens of Moore approved two propositions that will fund significant improvements and upgrades to our

Our Parks...Our Future!

Activenet Online Registration Activenet is a registration and reservation website for the City of Moore Parks and Recreation Department. Activenet provides a user friendly system for all customers to register for classes, camps, and sport leagues or even reserve a facility for a special event from the convenience of your home.

parks and facilities. The propositions were called the Our Parks…Our Future program. We are in the middle of making many of those improvements.

Page 3 has information on some of the improvements we are working on at the present time. In fact the largest park, Central Park, is well under construction with an opening expected in early 2016. This destination park will be home to a new recreation center, aquatic park, amphitheater, farmers market, a multi-purpose trail, and a playground accessible to children of all abilities. We have dedicated pages 4-6 of the Guide to Central Park. There is great information about the park, the fee structure for the recreation center and aquatic park, as well as the great many things you will be able to do in the park. There is also contact information for Parks and Recreation staff if you have questions about any aspect of the park.

Over the next 5-7 years we will invest over $34 million of voter-approved tax dollars in our park system. We feel that once the Our Parks…Our Future projects are completed we will have one of the best park systems in Oklahoma!

The Guide has a detailed listing, including photos, of all of our parks. This park guide will inform you about what is in your favorite park. I hope you will take time to enjoy one or more of the programs or parks available to you and your family.

As always, let us know how we are doing! Please feel free to call or email us and let us know how we can improve service to the community. You are always welcome to contact me at [email protected] or at (405) 793-5090. Also, please visit www.cityofmoore.com/fun to see a complete list of our activities, programs, and events. You can register online for many of the programs at that address as well.

There is always something fun at Moore Parks and Recreation. And remember Our Parks…Our Future!

Our Parks...Our Future! Coming Soon

Proposed playground at Central Park: The rendering above is of the proposed all-inclusive playground at Central Park. This will be one of the only, if not the only, all-inclusive playgrounds in Oklahoma. The theme for the playground is a railroad theme.

Buck Thomas Master Plan: The Buck Thomas Master Plan shows proposed improvements to the park and future improvements that are planned but unfunded at the present time. Proposed improvements include additional parking, a new 1-mile trail, a dog park, and reconstructing the existing walking trail.

Little River Park Master Plan: This master plan is the master plan for Little River Park. The north loop of the trail and surrounding amenities has been completed. Phase II of the Little River Park improvements, which includes extending the trail to the west side of the park and building a new playground, splash pad, restroom, and picnic pavilions, is planned to start in 2016.

Amphitheater: This image is of the new amphitheater at Central Park. The amphitheater features a covered stage and will have permanent seating for about 350 people with space to accommodate 1,000 more people.

Gym/Walking Track: The image above is of the walking track and gym area in The Station at Central Park. The Station is a 53,000sf recreation center that will include 2 full-size basketball courts, two meeting rooms, a multi-purpose room, child watch room, concession area, an elevated walking track, fitness area, two dance and fitness rooms, and administrative offices for the Parks staff. The expected opening is early 2016. Incorporated into the architecture is a railroad theme. You will note the large arching windows in areas, the station platform along the east front of the building, and the tall tower which many railroad stations had. The tall tower will include the name Moore into it.

Moore’s Brand Senior Citizen Center is located at 501 E. Main. Activities at the Center include cards, dominoes, quilting, billiards, ceramics, art lessons, woodcarving, and various crafts. There are also programs on nutrition as well as health checks for hearing, blood pressure, and blood and sugar screenings. Legal aid representatives and speakers from other professional groups speak to our seniors. Aging Services Inc., operates a congregate meal program at the Center as well.

A transportation bus owned and operated by the Moore Council on Aging (MCOA) provides rides for senior citizens from their addresses in the Moore city limits to the Center. This service also serves seniors with transportation to banks, stores, the library, doctor’s offices, and other places within the city.

In 1977, a group of senior citizens incorporated under the name of the Moore Council on Aging (MCOA), and began meeting in a converted dwelling owned by the City of Moore. As the group grew in numbers, they were able to obtain the use of a larger facility owned by a private corporation.

Brand Senior Center

The Council on Aging began a project to raise funds for a new facility. Land was donated to the MCOA for the project, and the MCOA and the City of Moore worked together to meet qualifications for a grant. In 1993, sufficient funds had been raised for the MCOA’s portion of the project cost; title of the property was transferred to the City, and construction begun.

On February 22, 1994, the MCOA moved into its new quarters. Under an agreement with the City, the MCOA is the principal user of the facility, which is owned and

maintained by the City of Moore. In 2013 approximately 2,250 square feet was added to the center. The expansion included rooms for billiards, dominoes, quilting and a computer room. The expansion was partially funded by the 1/4 cent sales tax approved by the voters of Moore in 2012.
