TRANSCRIPT
• Keep your grass cut, and try not to cut in
the wee-early hours of the morning. It’s
loud!
• Keep your yard neat
• When using common areas such as the
beach, playground, or harbor area, clean
up after yourself, properly dispose of trash
and recycling, and leave the area better
than you found it.
• Leave the fireworks to the pros. Right
around the beginning of May, we start to
hear fireworks being set off on our beach,
pretty much every weekend. Many of
these fireworks are illegal in the state,
cause our dogs to be terrified by the
sound, and pose a safety hazard to the
user and to nearby properties if a spark
lands in the wrong spots.
• Please follow and respect the harbor and
beach rules. Remember, we love dogs,
but they are not allowed at the beach
area—including the playground, beach, and
pavilion. Additionally, children should be
supervised.
These are all issues of safety and quality of life,
and we ask that you please consider your
neighbors’ peace and comfort while pursuing
your outdoor activities and recreation.
Upcoming for the Spring and Summer —

Summer Socials
4th of July! (watch for a flyer soon)
I hope to see you at some of these enjoyable
and productive events –-help out if you can, or
just join in the fun.
Happy Spring to all Chesapeake Isle
Community Members,
It seems like we just had snow on the ground
and now we are fast approaching summer…
where does the time go? The Progressive
Dinner has come and gone, followed quickly
by the 5K – which had boring, pleasant, and
much-welcomed sunshine this year – and then
the Easter Egg Hunt, Mooring Drop, and
Spring Clean-Up. You will find pictures and
thanks and more information later in this
newsletter, but I would like to personally
thank all who have contributed time, energy,
money and supplies to all of these events.
These events and happenings are not
“essential” to the running of our community,
but they do make it a wonderful place to live.
There are a lot of generous people in the Isle!
Spring brings everyone outside – we have our
“snowbirds” returning, folks out walking and
kids on their bikes and skateboards, gardening,
grass cutting, people enjoying their porches
and decks, the beach and playground gets
used—all in the beautiful setting of the Isle.
The Board gets its share of complaints – we
expect that. But most of the things we hear
about would be resolvable with a bit of consid-
eration and communication with neighbors.
Here’s a few ways that all of us can be better
neighbors:
• Drive slowly — the speed limit in our
community is 15 MPH.
• Keep ATVs on your own property, not
on Chesapeake Isle roadways and com-
mon areas.
• Don’t let your dogs roam the neighbor-
hood, and clean up after them.

Thanks to our event sponsors!
Some donate time, some donate money, some donate prod-

Finally! After years of freezing temps, wind, rain, hail, and even snow, walkers
and runners were able to celebrate our 5th annual event with a forecast that couldn’t have been better! POOF; we had sunshine! Kids and adults of all ages
and skill levels took advantage of the desirable conditions and hit the certified 5k course with pleasant grins (despite being somewhat shocked over the dry air and
sun) and finished with successful smiles! A great time was had by all, the party lasted long after the race was over.
As always, Blue Cheetah Sports Timing managed the event and donated their professional timing services and race management, and our event sponsors came
out in full force. (Please be sure to support their businesses if you are in need of their goods and services like they continually support us!) Special thanks also go to all of the event volunteers and the 74 registered participants, including the
Cecil Sharks soccer team who canceled a tournament to attend!
Event chairs Andrea Gilde, Diana Hawley, and Chris Shelton are already talking
about something big for next year—possibly a green extravaganza that you won’t want to miss! A St. Patty’s Day morning event and post-party is in the works.
Stay tuned!

Thanks to our volunteers!
Andrea, Chris, and Diana send special thanks to all of our

Easter Eggstravaganza!
Submitted by Angie Thomas
The sun broke through the cloudy skies just in time for the Isle’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 15. About 35 children and their
families joined at the pavilion on a beautiful day to not only enjoy the weather, but find some of over 1,000 candy-filledeggs and
one of the special “golden eggs” hidden throughout the beach area. After the hunt, children enjoyed Easter crafts and goodies.
Many thanks go out to the community members who helped to make this an
egg-cellent success!
• Many thanks to all assisting with egg stuffing duties: Cailyn Hawley,
Eric Garvey, Joey Greenfield, Alex Klinger, and Kathi Lichtenstein.
• Thanks to Sonny Hayes for making an Easter Bunny appearance.
• Thanks to Jim Carter for getting the bathrooms ready for action.
• Thanks to Polly Carter and Kathi Lichtenstein for assisting with set up duties.
• Thanks to the group that took time to hide all the eggs (and even the
last minute extra eggs): Lauren, Connor, Hope, Brandon, Hunter, Christy, Eric, and Alex.
• Thanks to all the family and friends who contributed delicious good-ies for the party.

Important Mailbox Information
Since our roads have been paved to a consistent width of 20', many people have noticed how in-
consistent the placement of mailboxes are in many areas of the community. When the roads
were millings and gravel, it didn't much matter where the mailbox sat. There are two issues:
1. Inconsistent placement
Inconsistent placement causes problems for our plow drivers during snow events. When the
snow becomes deep enough to cover the edge of the roadway, the mailboxes are often the only
guidance point. In some cases the mailboxes are within a few inches of the roadway, and in oth-
ers they are several feet. This increases the chance that the plow driver will go off the edge of
the road which can potentially damage the road surface with the plow, or in extreme cases, cause
a rollover of the tractor.
2. Distance from road's edge
Distance from the road's edge also
causes an issue for the mail carri-
er, who must drive over the edge of
the road surface to deliver the
mail. This causes extra wear and
tear on the road edge, and in rainy
circumstances creates mud ruts.
If your mailbox is more than a foot
away from the road's edge, please
consider moving it to within the PO's guidelines as stated in the attached graphic. It will help pre-
serve our road surface, and keep our drivers and equipment safe.
We ask that all residents do their part in helping us protect our investment. Thank you!

On April 26, Michael Wagner, the Junior Racing Chair from the North
East River Yacht Club (NERYC), had the distinct honor of awarding a
scholarship for two weeks of sailing camp at NERYC to Gavin Hawley,
a 5th grader at North East Elementary School (NEES). Gavin wrote
the winning essay on The Physics of Sailing for an extra-curricular con-
test that the NERYC developed with NEES’s faculty.
The scholarship was funded by an anonymous donor, and the contest
was open to 4th and 5th graders at NEES, a school with over 560 stu-
dents in our local community. While the donor wants to remain anon-
ymous, Mr. Wagner stated that the donor is one of NERYC’s Junior
Sailors who raised the funds in an outside service project and then
gave him the money for this purpose. How cool is that?!
Mr. Wagner also noted that it is his hope that the NERYC membership
can do this kind of thing more often,
and that “it is a great way to build good-
will in our local community.”
Congratulations, Gavin, on a job well
done!

What helps keep all property owners’ fees lower? The tireless efforts of our community volunteers who work hard to maintain our common
areas that we all love to enjoy: our beach and harbor. Their grunt work is appreciated throughout the year, but it is particularly noticed during
our community clean-up days.
On April 29. a hearty crew—including many youngsters—reported to the beach and the harbor to get the areas ready for the season. THANK
YOU from all of us to all of you!
ATV and dirt bike riding on Chesapeake Isle roads and community
property is STRICTLY prohibited.
Please note that the Maryland State Laws covering the operation and registration of all motorized vehicles (including cars, motor-
cycles, mopeds, dirt bikes, ATVs, and golf carts) apply within the bounds of Chesapeake Isle.
The Board of Directors have recently received numerous complaints regarding the illegal use of ATVs on community property.
This behavior will not be tolerated. We will continue to contact the authorities when we witness violators (and we encourage all
neighbors to do the same). Additionally, the Association will press charges and pursue legal action, as applicable.

Ready for the Season!
Gildes caught in the act: installing floats and
swim platforms. What a job! Volunteers help during Spring Clean-up Day at the beach
Now that our area is ready for the season, please do your part to
help maintain its beauty by cleaning up after yourself after using
the facilities, and leaving the area in better condition than what
you found it! Additionally, for everyone’s enjoyment and safety,
please remember to respect and follow the COMMUNITY BEACH RULES that are posted on the brown sign when you
enter the beach.
Please remember that all children under age 13 must be
supervised by an adult. There are no life guards on duty (and
other adults enjoying the beach are not responsible for your unsu-
pervised children). Please use the facilities at your own risk.
Please understand that the rules at the beach and harbor exist to enhance the CI experience for everyone. Board members and
chairpersons are volunteers who really do not enjoy having to take time out of their own family or personal time to address viola-
tions. Please therefore be sure to always act in a considerate manner so we can all enjoy our beautiful community facilities!
DOGS ARE NOT
ALLOWED IN THE
BEACH AREA. This includes the pavilion, playground, and
beach. For the safety of others and our
equipment, please take your furry friends
to the designated areas at the harbor if
they want to swim. Thank you for your
cooperation.

([email protected] or 410-287-5115).
SAVE THE DATE! Community Fourth of July Celebration: Tuesday, July 4, 2017
Celebrating the Fourth in the Isle has been a long-standing annual tradition, with hundreds of people from the whole CI community
coming together for one giant, good, old-fashioned “Mayberry-like” party! You won’t want to miss it; plan to bring yourself, your
family, and your friends. We will bring classic events and maybe even a few new twists, so plan to check it out! More details will
follow; stay tuned for a e-flyer in June! Info will also be posted on FB. Questions? Contact Diana ([email protected]).
Ladies’ Brunch
Saturday, June 3
10am–12pm
Pavilion
This one’s for the women! A wonderful (and delicious) event allows the Isle’s
ladies to welcome the new women to the
community. Please mark your calendars
and bring a brunch item to share.
(New ladies: Be prepared to get spoiled; you bring nothing
but yourselves! Stay tuned for a formal invitation.)
