Course Duration

The training is a 6 x one week block release training spread over a period of one (1) year.

About the Course

As globalisation gathers pace NEBOSH has seen the need for a common and consistent

standard for achieving and maintaining the health and safety of workers in all parts of the

world. The NEBOSH National Diploma has been recognised for many years as a leading

qualification in the field of health and safety in the UK, providing the specialist knowledge andunderstanding, combined with the application of the expertise required to undertake a career

as a Safety and Health Practitioner. The NEBOSH International Diploma will fulfill the same

objectives in other countries around the world.

Who Should Attend?

The NEBOSH International Diploma is the qualification for aspiring health and safety

professionals building directly upon the foundation of knowledge provided by the

NEBOSH International General Certificate. It is designed to provide students with the

expertise – wherever in the world they may be working – required to undertake a

career as a safety and health practitioner. It also provides a sound basis for

progression to an MSc or more specialist study (such as the NEBOSH SpecialistDiploma in Environmental Management).

Pre-requisites

There is no prerequisite for this training however it is highly recommended to have a broad

knowledge in the workplace health and safety. An International General Certificate or a National

General Certificate is suggested.

The course is divided into four (4) core units, in which first three units are further divided into anumber of elements while the fourth unit is the additional workplace based assignment.

B5 – Hazardous substances – monitoring and maintenance of control measures

B6 – Biological agents

B7 – Physical agents 1 – noise and vibration

B8 – Physical agents 2 – radiation and thermal environment

B9 – Psycho-social agents

Unit C: Workplace and work equipment safety

C1 – General workplace issues

C2 – Principles of fire and explosion

C3 – Workplace fire risk assessment

C4 – The storage, handling and processing of dangerous substances

C5 – Work equipment

C6 – Machinery safety

C8 – Electrical safety

C9 – Safety in construction and demolition

C10 – Environmental pollution and waste management

Assessment and Evaluation

Examination dates are scheduled by NEBOSH and it is the delegates’ prerogative if they want to

register for the Unit exams as long as it is within the allowed period. On successful completion of

each unit, a Unit Certificate will be issued by NEBOSH. However, in order to obtain the NEBOSH

National Diploma qualification, candidates should pass each of the four units.

This qualification is assessed through the three 3-hour exams for Units A, B, C, and a workplace-based

assignment for Unit D which are all set by NEBOSH and marked by external examiners appointed by

NEBOSH.

Certification

Successful candidates will receive the NEBOSH International Diploma Certificate.

On successful completion of the qualification, the Diploma holder may apply for Graduate

membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the major UK

professional body in the field (www.iosh.co.uk). This is the first step to becoming a Chartered Safety

and Health Practitioner as a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).

This qualification is also accepted by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management

(www.iirsm.org) as meeting their requirements for full membership (MIIRSM). United Kingdom

professional health and safety bodies have a growing international reputation with a number of

international branches being formed.

Holders of the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety may use the

designatory letters “IDipNEBOSH” after their name.
