Wouldn’t it be nice to know……..

• When is the route being serviced?

• Has the truck reached the distribution center?

• Are single copy outlets being serviced properly?

• Is my TMC being delivered?

How do I get this done …. I am a staff of 1 !

Capabilities of GPS Technology• Geo-Coding / Time Stamp Validation

GPS and date/time information can not be altered

• Route Structure Contractor route assignment

Contractor district assignments

Routes by ZIP, Sub-ZIP, or custom to the newspaper/distributor needs

• Waypoints Weighting capabilities

Different types of products can be distinguished (Sunday Select vs TMC)

Notification by delivery time

Dynamic modification of waypoints

• Visual Route Coverage Ability to view route/network coverage in real-time utilizing mapping software

– Eliminated the need to call to find the where the product

– Helped fleet performance through basic fleet management (miles, idle time, speeding, etc.)

• Single Copy and Bulk – Publisher provided each vehicle/carrier with GPS technology

– Lost Sales- high traffic locations were being serviced at the end of the route.

– Quantify how much time to service large locations (grocery stores).

– Can include automated laydown sheets with inventory information.

Return On Investment

Since publishers are only beginning to use the product, a quantifiable amount is still yet “to be determined”. However, some of the key benefits will eventually turn into savings and revenue such as:

• Negotiation Tool - system allows to capture key metrics that influence delivery fees/rate

• Best Practices - data usable to measure market performance and allows for benchmarking

• Do More With Less - allows for more analytical reporting regardless of staff size

• Postage Savings - take product out of the mail and deliver efficiently through distribution network

• Distribution Company – deliver more than just your newspaper

• Auditing - a more efficient audit can be conducted due to availability of data
