Message from AMI:

WASTE DISPOSALWe have received reports that residents as well as their landscap-ers are using vacant lots as dump sites. These lots belong to some-body; they will be someone’s future home and should not to beused to dispose of your clippings or debris. With the weather ashot as it’s been, the trash in the vacant lots will smell very quickly. Please advise your contractor(s) to dispose of the clippings anddebris in the proper manner. It costs your assessment dollars, whichcan be used to further beautify Fairfield, to assist in cleaning upthe mess they’re leaving behind.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Your kind help is still needed for FOSTERING THOSE LOST PETS!

For all you animal lovers: There are many times, in our community, when people find a lost animal/pet and can’t pick it up because theyhave no place to shelter the animal until the owner is either found ornotified and comes to claims it.

This is where your kind help is needed. We are asking for residents inthe Fairfield community to volunteer their homes and backyards to fos-ter a lost animal for 1 to 2 days – until the owner is located and theanimal is returned to that owner.

Not only will this keep the animal from being injured, killed, impregnat-ing another stray, or being picked up by Animal Control, it will insurethe children and families of the community are kept sale also.

If you are interested in being a foster home for someone’s lost animal/pet, please call me, Geri Bishop, at 281-304-0283.

Thanks so much!

Dear Fairfield Residents,

Have you noticed the yellow ribbons around our neighborhood? These pretty ribbons show support for our military men and womenserving our nation. I enjoy and appreciate seeing these ribbons on adaily basis. You see, our son is a medic in the U.S. Army stationed in Iraqand these yellow ribbons speak to me. Each ribbon represents a heart. Thus, I’m askingyou to display yellow ribbons in your yard to remind us all of the efforts these people doto provide us the freedoms we enjoy daily.

With the recent deaths of several area service men, these ribbons take on a very per-sonal meaning. This letter is not intended to state whether or not our troops should be inIraq; it is much more personal than that. It is intended to persuade you to join together tomake Fairfield a premier neighborhood whose voices reach personally to individual ser-vice personnel showing words of acknowledgement, appreciation, and encouragement.

Therefore, I am also asking individuals, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Women’s clubs, sportsteams, senior clubs, and churches to take time to send cards or letters to a specific serviceperson until they come home. If you would like an individual name and address to sendyour words to, just call me (281-373-0142) and I’ll gladly provide you with one. I’m surethere are other families in Fairfield who have loved ones and friends serving in the mili-tary. If you would like to submit a person’s name and address as a recipient, drop theirinformation into the decorated box at the Fairfield Athletic Center.Together we can reach around the world and bring Texas to those protecting us all!

Sincerely,Peggy Gardner, Fairfield Resident

Let’s Show Our SUPPORT!

Here’s one of our brave countryman overin Iraq; please show your love and sup-port by sending Kevin cards, letters, careboxes, whatever you can to show himhe’s in our hearts, thoughts and prayers:

Every week, in every state of the U.S. and in 85 countries around theworld, thousands of mothers meet to pray for their children and theirschools. They gather in Mexico, New Zealand, China, Germany, India,Uganda, Egypt, Romania, Russia and many other countries. They areall part of Moms In Touch International, an interdenominational, non-profit ministry of women who believe prayer makes a difference.

The group was founded in 1984 by Fern Nichols while she was sta-tioned in Abbotsford, British Colombia with a Christian ministry. Shehad two sons entering junior high school. Nichols knew her boys weregoing to face their greatest test yet in resisting immoral values, vulgarlanguage, and peer pressure. She found other concerned mothers, andthey began meeting for prayer.

The following summer Nichols and her family moved to Poway, Cali-fornia, where by the fall of 1985, a group was established at PowayHigh School. The women met once a week and prayed for a full hourfor their children and the school. They prayed for a Moms In Touchgroup for every school in their district, and they shared the concept withtheir friends and other moms they met. Two years later, Nichols pub-lished a Moms In Touch booklet, and the following January the firstMoms In Touch retreat was held. Today there are thousands of Moms InTouch groups meeting worldwide.

The organization’s goal is to have a group of two or more moms prayingfor every school in this country and throughout the world. We know ourchildren face many challenges at school (academics, drugs, peer pres-sure and violence), and to stand in the gap for them through prayer isour highest calling.

The mothers meet once a week to pray for teachers, principals and ad-ministrators, conferences, respect for authority, curriculum choices, holi-day situations, coaches and athletic programs, high standards, familyvalues, after school programs, problems faced by the students and forthe specific needs of the children of the mothers in the group.

If you are interested in joining a Moms In Touch group, please call Alecia Mallett at 281 -256-0433

NWHC Aggie Mothers’ ClubUpcoming Events We Need Volunteers and Families!

Family to Family Network is an organization that empowers fami-lies of children with disabilities by providing information, training, referral and support. We are initiating a new project in the Hous-ton area called Family Friends. It is an intergenerational programthat matches volunteers (age 55+) with children with special needsand their families. The Family Friend (volunteer) will visit the homeonce a week for a couple of hours to offer support and encourage-ment by reading a book, playing, and become a friend! The family gains from the emotional support provided by the volun-teer. Their visits often give family members a break from caringfor their child with disabilities, all the while knowing the child is ingood hands. The Volunteers offer their special skills, wisdom, support and lifeexperiences. They gain a sense of pride knowing that they are mak-ing a difference in the family’s life. The Community is strengthened by volunteers providing supportiveservices that would otherwise prove too costly for the families.

If you are 55 years or older or have a child with a disability andare interested in this wonderful program,

Please call Patricia McMahan or Aline Houston atFamily to Family Network (713)-466-6304

LEARN TO SWIM LESSONS:Fairfield’s Texas Terrapins Swim Team continues to grow

by offering ”Learn to Swim” Lessons right here in our neigh-borhood. The first six-week session is already completed withregistration on-going for our second session beginning thisweek!

The Fairfield Athletic Center’s heated pool gives families theperfect opportunity to fit lessons in during winter’s short daylight hoursin a warm pool. Classes are offered in private, semi-private and grouplessons once or twice a week in a both AM and PM sessions.

SWIM-A-WHAT?!?:On a quiet Tuesday in September, the Texas Terrapins Swim Team

took to the waters in our first-ever “Swimathon.” Similar to the idea of awalk-a-thon, jump-a-thon, etc, – the USA Swimming “Swim-a-thon” hasswimmers collect pledges based on swimming a certain number of poollengths within a certain amount of time. A portion of the donations godirectly to the USA Swimming organization while other funds raisedpurchase needed swim team equipment, including new backstroke flags, hand paddles, water polo balls, and more.

The kids began at 4:30 pm and swam for a maximum of 2 hours or 200laps (which ever came first.) Pizza and prizes were awaiting them whenthey stepped out of the water – but we STILL had a hard time gettingthem out! When it was all over, 67 swimmers and 1 coach had accom-

TERRAPIN TALES!!plished 4558 laps or 9116 lengths! Congratulations to all that partici-

pated – what a great show of Terrapin Teamwork! (At this article’sdeadline, donations were still being collected and tallied withfinal numbers being announced in December.)

The Texas Terrapins Swim Team (TTST) of Cypress, Texas isa year-round competitive swim team offering instruction and com-

petition to swimmers of all ages and abilities. The Texas TerrapinsSwim Team provides a positive, supportive and fun-filled environment

where swimmers can improve their skills and meet their individual goals. Through the guidance of trained, experienced coaches, coupled with thesupport of the fami-lies, we encourageteam spirit, sports-manship and a life-long love of the sportof swimming. Harvest Bible ChurchDid You Know? Jesus said, “Let the children come to me and do not hinder

them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it”(Mark 10:14-15).

Jesus obviously loved children, and he was more than willing to bless themwhen mothers brought them to him. But he didn’t just do so simply as a routineritual. In the midst of a generation who admired and followed the rich andfamous, Jesus, on the contrary, used children to illustrate those who wouldactually enter God’s Kingdom. Why? Because, unlike proud adults, childrenare humble. They have no aspirations to greatness, and the applause they seekisn’t for selfish gain; it’s for parental approval. Children lack pride, and thisallows them to accept gifts without insisting on paying the giver back. Jesushad a gift to give, and it was his life to save sinners from the wrath of God. Hegave himself on the cross in death and told everyone that if they would onlybelieve he would save them. Children also have simple faith in that they believewhat they’re told. Their minds are like sponges soaking up all that is fed tothem. They accept truth and error, so it’s the teacher’s responsibility to teachthem Truth. Those who trip them up will answer to their Maker.

Jesus was not saying that only children will inherit God’s Kingdom; he wassaying that it takes the attitude of a child to enter into heaven. And he warnedthat those who won’t receive God’s Kingdom as a child won’t enter it at all. Those who recognize how insignificant and small they are, however, will enterheaven. This is what ultimately prevents the rich and famous from enteringGod’s presence – they’re too into themselves and their own so-called signifi-cance.

Those who do come to Christ “as little children” are held in Christ’s armsand blessed, for he loves them intensely. God’s love for all people is one of

action as evidenced by Christ’s death at the cross, but His particular love forHis chosen ones, those who come to Him in faith, is especially intense – likethat of a mother to her children. Childlike faith is what distinguishes God’schildren from the rest of the world. We may not understand all that God does orhas done, but His true children know that God knows best; that He is sovereignand in control – the same way a child goes to sleep at night knowing that hismom and dad are protecting him. Christ holds those with that kind of faithclose to his heart. He loves His children – those who have faith in Him alone forsalvation.

If you’re looking for a Bible-teaching church, then come visit us at HarvestBible Church on Sunday mornings. Our worship begins at 10:30. Fruitful Word MinistriesI had a mother with a preschooler in my office this week. In the middle of

our conversation her son announced that he needed to use the restroom. Thewoman directed her son to the restroom just outside my door and we contin-ued with our relatively serious discussion. After a few minutes the youngboy walked back into my office and enthusiastically declared, “The plungersticks to the wall!”

Stunned, the mother and I looked at one another for a moment withoutsaying a word. As the child’s statement sunk in, I tried desperately not tolaugh. The mother looked at me sheepishly. I couldn’t maintain my compo-sure another second. I laid my face down on my desk and burst into laugh-ter.

My son turned fifteen last Sunday. I spent the entire day reflecting onprecious memories of similarly embarrassing, but equally hilarious moments. When my son was three, we invited friends over who had a daughter abouthis age. I was horrified to find that while the adults were conversing in theliving room, my rather adventurous son and the agreeable girl emptied anentire jumbo sized jar of petroleum jelly on their heads in an attempt to maketheir hair “shiny.”

Another time, our little entrepreneur gathered acorns from the oak tree inour front yard and then unbeknownst to me went door to door selling themto nearby residents for three cents each. Remarkably our light hearted andamazingly patient neighbors bought every acorn those pudgy little handscould carry! I know the sheepish look of that young mother all too well.

Psalm 127:3 says Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward fromhim. (NLT)

Mothering preschoolers can be exhausting and frustrating at times. HowI wish I’d known how much I would treasure the memories of my son’santics. I might have laughed far more often. It’s amazing how quickly BigWheels are exchanged for automobiles and nursery rhymes are swapped forrock music.

If you have young children, thank God for His gift every single day. Rel-ish the hugs, delight in the kisses, and laugh when faced with oddly placedplungers or greasy hair. They are part of your reward!—Mindy Ferguson, www.fruitfulword.orgCopyright © 2004 Fruitful Word Ministries, Inc., All rights reserved.

Who are we?Trinity Vineyard is a new church that is gathering in Fairfield. We love

Jesus. We are growing through study of the bible. We find life and purposein relationships. We drink coffee together and dress casually. We exist topursue God in the company of friends. What’s on our mind this month?

This past month we have spent a lot of time talking about Jesus. His nameseems to be discussed in all areas of our culture. Dan Brown’s “The DaVince Code” remains a bestseller, George Carlin has a new book out called,“When will Jesus bring the Pork Chops?”, Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of theChrist” was one of the top grossing movies this year, the latest fashion trendare T-Shirts that read “Jesus in My Homeboy” or “Jesus Surfs Without aBoard”, Pat Green sings about “John Wayne and Jesus”, popular rapper KanyeWest has a song called “Jesus Walks”, and Green Day has a song called“Jesus of Suburbia.”

As a young boy in a small church I remember singing one particular songabout Jesus:

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, there’s just something about that nameMaster, Savior, Jesus like the fragrance after the rainJesus, Jesus, Jesus all heaven and earth proclaimKings and Kingdoms all pass awayBut there’s just something about that name

This past month we have explored what that something is about the nameof Jesus. More specifically: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? What is he upto in the world today? Looking at Jesus’ teaching, we discovered that He isthe smartest man that ever lived. His words are the greatest spoken by anyhuman being. He taught things that still shape our concept of right and

wrong 2000 years later. Looking at Jesus’ works, we discovered that he isanything but boring. Imagine going to a party where he turns water in towine, a hospital visit where he heals the sick, or a picnic that feeds 5000without any sandwiches. Looking at His character we discovered someonewho had no faults. His closest friends knew Him to have no sin. Looking atOld Testament prophecy we discovered someone who has a whole bookwritten about Him before He was born on this earth. Over 300 prophecieswere fulfilled in Jesus’ life. Looking at the resurrection we discovered Jesusconquest of death and the hope of Christianity. Our discoveries have justbegun to scratch the surface. The trek continues in the coming months, wewould love for you to join us.When are our Gatherings?

On Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm to 7:15pm. This Fall we will be goingthrough a series called Alpha. Alpha is a practical introduction on the basicsof the Christian faith. Come with your questions, and join us on a journey todiscover the meaning of life. Children’s programs are provided for those 6months – 5th grade. Mid-week small groups are another opportunity to joinus in this mission to pursue God in the company of friends. We study thebible together, pray for each other, and do life together.
