DRIVING EAST AFRICAN ICT THROUGH FIRST CLASS CONNECTIVITY
East AfricaCom represents the most advanced region of the continent for mobile and digital communications, mobile money and ICT development.
From an established 12 years supporting the market, the East AfricaCom event will showcase the innovators and business leaders that are creating the next phase of the digital ecosystem. This spans from high level infrastructural projects, broadband and LTE rollout while recognising the key challenges for rural telecoms, reducing the costs of 3G networks and boosting data usage.
Regulators, operators, ISPs and digital leaders will gather seamlessly to discuss the connectivity challenges across the region. Mobile money as the great differentiator to East African markets takes a dedicated stream this year, showcasing innovation in mobile financial services and the new business strategies where corporations are taking up MVNO licenses.
The event recognises the need for enterprises to enhance their digital channels by the inclusion of a CIO Forum; where ICT leaders and heads of tech at SMEs and leading corporations gather to spearhead challenges in becoming a streamlined, efficient digital enterprise. In addition the start-up and entrepreneur community will gleam new insights and investment from the Entrepreneurs Hub and Angel Investor’s Panel.
We look forward to welcoming you to Nairobi this coming May.

GSM is still the dominant mobile technology in East Africa, accounting for 85.75% of the total subscriptions at end-3Q14. However, 3G/3G+ penetration is growing quickly, driven by increased rollout of mobile broadband networks and the increasing affordability of smartphone devices. WCDMA technology, including HSPA, accounted for 13.87% of mobile subscriptions in the region at end-3Q14, compared to 10.65% at end-3Q13.
The take-up of WCDMA in the region is expected to continue strongly, and the number of WCDMA subscriptions is expected to overtake the number of GSM subscriptions in 2017, according to forecasts by Ovum (Figure 2). At end-2019, WCDMA and LTE combined will account for 75.52% of total mobile subscriptions in East Africa.
