Rationale

LUDI: play for children with disabilities

• Play is the most important engine of the child’s development

• Play is also the most important context to establish friendships, for social inclusion

• The right to be able to engage in play (Art 31 UN convention of the rights of the child)

• Children although they have some kind of disability, they remain undoubtedly, first of all, children

• There is no reason that in this case play can be considered less important than for other children

Page 5: New Friends The 1st International Conference on Social Robots in Therapy and Education October 22-23, 2015 in Almere, the Nethe rlands

But…

• Children with disabilities experience more problems in engaging in play.

• But they have the same needs as their typically developing peers

• Professionals are mainly interested in addressing educational and therapeutic objectives and use play as a mean

• Often the parents are worried, anxious and are not able to play with them the children
