WelcomeWelcome parents and participants!

We’re so excited about our lineup of programs and activities for Summer 2011 and know that you will be, too! We offer three ways to participate, so you’ll find a lot to meet your specific interests and abilities. Check out our Road Map below to help you find your way among our many program offerings!

Our activities are guided by permanent and returning staff, many of whom have been working with New Heights’ participants for over 15 years. Some of the most treasured memories kids have are from the relationships they build with our crew! Our staff members are talented in their disciplines, ranging from art to sports, gaming and adventure, and they have years of experience and training working with youth.

Parents, please call us anytime with your questions regarding the registration process, program and trip information and financial assistance. We want you and your child’s experience to be outstanding from start to finish!

All the best,

Tracey Tucker, MA LCMHCExecutive Director

Beginning June 27th there will be weekly sessions offered from 10am to 5pm throughout the summer. Each week provides various group activities and day trips.

Adventure activities include day-long, overnight and week-long trips that challenge teens both mentally and physically and offer a memorable experience that you’ll treasure for a lifetime! New Heights can provide equipment for all trips.

Wonderful Workshop Week is held the week of July 25th. Each workshop is developed to give participants a fun and exciting week to try new things and learn new skills. Check out this year’s 8-bit music composition, girls’ woodworking, and cooking workshops.

Who can participate? The Teen Center program is open to students entering 6th grade through 10th grade and the Adventure program is open to all students between 6th and 12th grade. Students in the communities of Portsmouth, Newington, Rye, Greenland, New Castle, North Hampton, York, Eliot, and Kittery are eligible for the tiered pricing for all programs. However, our summer programs welcome kids from New England and beyond, especially for overnight adventure trips. Students with special needs are welcome at New Heights. Please contact us to make the arrangements required to ensure a successful experience.

What is the behavior policy? It is our goal to provide a healthy environment for all participants. New Heights has a clear, consistent behavior policy. In essence, we ask participants to respect themselves, others and the environment by following the rules and instructions given during trips/activities, and using appropriate language. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed immediately. Consequences may include participants being sent home, restricted from transportation, and/or suspended from future trips without a refund. Open communication is encouraged between staff and parents.

Does New Heights provide transportation?Bus transportation is provided to and from New Heights to transport participants from Portsmouth, Rye, and Greenland. Many Southern Maine participants use the Connie Bean bus stop in Portsmouth. Participants outside this area should be dropped off at New Heights by 10:15 am and picked up between 5-5:30 pm. A schedule of bus routes is available on our website at www.newheightsonline.org

Do you offer financial assistance for families? The New Heights Teen Center and Adventure programs have a sliding fee system which subsidizes and scholarships most income levels for those in eligible communities. Payment in full for both Teen Center and Adventure programs are due May 27th, 2011. If payment is not received by this date, the participant will lose their space. For information about payment plans or scholarships, please call 603-422-8235 well before the May 27th deadline.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?Regarding refunds: There are no refunds for the Teen Center or Adventure Programs. Occasionally, New Heights may need to cancel an adventure trip. While we will attempt to reschedule for a later date, this is often extremely difficult. Participants may choose an alternative activity for the day, or receive a refund or credit. Regarding cancellations: We require at least 2 business days notice if you need to cancel an adventure trip. Some of our trips have wait lists; if you have given at least 2 business days notice you will receive a credit for a future trip.

What are your late policies? Regarding late/no-show participants: Participants are expected to arrive for all trips and activities on time. We cannot wait for latecomers. If a participant is late for an activity and the trip has left, they will not receive a refund/credit. Late pickup policy: Pickup is at 5:00 p.m. daily. Late pickups (any time after 5:30 p.m.) will result in a late fee of $1 per minute. Late fees must be paid in full before your child may participate in any future programs.Teen Center late check-in: All teen center trips have check in times and participants must check in at the time designated by staff. If a participant is up to 10 minutes late, they will receive a warning. If a participant is over 10 minutes late, they will lose their next scheduled trip without a refund. Is there a registration deadline for New Heights programs?New Heights programs remain open until filled. While there is no deadline to register for any of our programs, space is limited on all trips and programs will close once capacity is reached. To receive your top choices for the Adventure programs you must register by April 29, 2011.
