NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH GOOD NEWS! NURTURE, SERVE, CONNECT July 1, 2019 Three Minutes with the Minister There is not sweeter paragraph in the entire Bible for the pure of heart than John 15:15 I no longer call you servants because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead I have called you friends for every- thing that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you.No verse is more attractive for the one who has wandered away from God. There is no gift in the universe as rare and precious as the friendship of Jesus Christ. The Lord offers us every element of perfect friendship. I have noted that there are signs that say, tradesman use the back entrance, or Do not enter here.Jesus does not have a back entrance nor a front entrance, depending on who seeks admission. All who come are His friends and know that the front door is always open. One of the endearing characteristics of Jesusfriendship, it seems to me, is the fact that he al- ways looks for the bright side of character and conduct of his friends. This is a sure indication of friendship. Jesus makes great allowances for our weakness. Do you recall Jesus in the garden? Loneliness and sorrow descended heavily upon Jesus. He needed the presence of his friends and he asked them to wait and praywhat did they do?...they fell asleep, indifferent to the agony of Jesussuffering. There was no biting criti- cism as some might use, rather, Jesus simply said upon his return, What, could you not watch with me one hour? And added, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Sleep on now and take your rest. This changeless love of Jesus may be yours. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever, will love you to the end of eternity. What a Friend we Have in Jesus! (By the way, this article was written by my Grandfather, Dougald McColl,- July 18, 1952) Jesus the same today as then and forever yours. This past Sunday it was announced in our wor- ship service that we need to lift up Jim and Janette Whittern. Over the weekend, their Son, Michael be- came gravely ill and passed way early Saturday morn- ing. There was a celebration of his life on Wednesday of this past week. As many of you are aware, the Whittern's also lost their daughter a few years ago. So, when you spend time in prayer during the days and weeks ahead, be sure to lift up Jim and Janette as they continue to walk in faith on this most difficult journey.

Three Minutes with the Minister

There is not sweeter paragraph in the entire Bible for the pure of heart than John 15:15 “I no longer call you servants because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead I have called you friends for every-thing that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you.” No verse is more attractive for the one who has wandered away from God. There is no gift in the universe as rare and precious as the friendship of Jesus Christ.

The Lord offers us every element of perfect friendship. I have noted that there are signs that say, tradesman use the back entrance, or Do not enter here.” Jesus does not have a back entrance nor a front entrance, depending on who seeks admission. All who come are His friends and know that the front door is always open. One of the endearing characteristics of Jesus’ friendship, it seems to me, is the fact that he al-ways looks for the bright side of character and conduct of his friends. This is a sure indication of friendship. Jesus makes great allowances for our weakness. Do you recall Jesus in the garden? Loneliness and sorrow descended heavily upon Jesus. He needed the presence of his friends and he asked them to wait and pray… what did they do?...they fell asleep, indifferent to the agony of Jesus’ suffering. There was no biting criti-cism as some might use, rather, Jesus simply said upon his return, “What, could you not watch with me one hour? And added, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Sleep on now and take your rest.”

This past Sunday it was announced in our wor-ship service that we need to lift up Jim and Janette Whittern. Sunday, July 14th

Following Worship

Summertime is fast approaching us. Independence Day is around the corner and temperatures are rising. Why not have an old fashioned potluck meal; cool and refreshing? Let's make it picnic style! Just bring your favorite sum-

mertime picnic food for yourself and enough to share on Sunday, July 14th. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall immediately following morning worship. In order to have a more well-rounded and balanced meal, if your last name begins with letters A-F, please bring a vegetable or side dish; G-L meat or casserole dish; M-R salad dish;

and S-Z, desser t. Also, we will need 6 volunteers to decorate the tables in 4th of July or patr iotic decor . If you would like to volunteer for this task or if there should be any questions, please let me know.

Anthony Henderson.
