    PETITION FILING INSTRUCTION SHEET2012 PRIMARY ELECTION

    CHIOCE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

    The New Jersey Division of Elections accepts petitions on behalf of the Secretary of State, who serves as the Chief ElectionOfficial of the State of New Jersey. Set forth below are qualifications for candidacy along with an overview of the statutoryrequirements for submitting petitions to conform with Title 19, the Election Laws of New Jersey.

    Candidate petitions may be filed in person or mailed but must be received on or prior to the deadline date and time.Petitions must be filed with the Division of Elections on or before 4:00 p.m. on April 2, 2012. (N.J.S.A. 19:23-14)

    Pursuant to the Constitution of the United States, Article II, Section I, Clause 4, to qualify as a candidate for the office of

    President, you must meet the following qualifications:

    shall have attained the age of 35 years a natural born citizen of the United States a United States resident for at least fourteen years

    Each candidate should read and follow petition instructions carefully in order to ensure that the petition is accepted for filingfor the office of President.

    In accordance with N.J.S.A. 19:25-3 et seq., petitions must meet the following requirements:

    Must be signed by at least 1000 voters throughout the entire State. (N.J.S.A. 19:25-3). Candidates name and address must appear on each petition. (N.J.S.A. 19:23-7). The circulator/witness is the person who collected the signatures on the petition and must complete and

    sign the affidavit where indicated. Note: Affidavit must be notarized. (N.J.S.A. 19:23-11). Circulator/witnessmust sign the petition as a petitioner on a numbered line and location of signature must

    be identified.
