My title at Lakenham Primary & Nursery School is School Assistance Dog. I’m 16 weeks old. All the children had a maths challenge from me this morning and lots of them worked out that I am 4 months old. I will in time be allowed to have positive touch from everybody and help with classroom learning. At the moment like lots of you I’m getting used to my new school. I look forward to seeing you all in school again very soon. You can see I’m growing fast and love to sleep. Nursery Nursery have been back to school for their full sessions this week and whilst this has been very busy it has meant that we've met lots of new friends and had more time for learning! This week, our focus has been teaching the children how to use the snack bar. Eventually, the children will be able to access this independently; toasting their own bagels, spreading the butter and pouring their own drinks. So far, we have done a great job but we could all use some practise buttering our bagels; you can do this at home too with toast or even bread. Our routines are being learnt very quickly and we are definitely getting better at 'Choosing it, using it, washing it and putting it away back where it belongs".

Jorgie’s Journal Hello my name is Jorgie and I live with Miss Pownall.

Reception

This week Reception discovered a scruffy bear upon their return to lunch. We wondered where the bear had come from. We also wondered how the bear got there. We used our imagination and ideas in conversation with one another to think about how the bear might be feeling. We thought that the bear may have come from the "oak forest" and maybe feeling "scared because he may not know who we are". The children empathised with the bear and were very imaginative! In other news, we have been making our own playdough. We used a recipe to guide us about how much flour, salt, oil and water to measure the quantities needed. We mixed with a spoon and then with our hands to enjoy the squishy texture of the playdough. As we played with it we discovered that we could

create designs in it using the natural materials on offer.

Can we remind EYFS parents and carers to NOT leave pushchairs in the garden. You must take these home with you. Many thanks

Year 1 In Year 1 we have been enjoying the sunny weather in our outdoor area. Some of us noticed that the ground was getting too dry and hard to dig up. We added water and enjoyed splashing in the muddy puddles!

Year 2

2G had a wonderful time exploring the Nature school area in their Butterflies of Britain session. We practiced using the resources respectfully and ensured that our play had a purpose.

Year 3

This week in Year 3 we had our first BOB session, which always takes place Monday

morning. We explored how to be Ready, Respectful and Safe and discovered all of the

new areas. We finished off our session with Earth Listening, it gave us time to notice lots

of different types of birds tweeting.

Year 4 We have had a very busy week this week in Year 4. This week, we have continued our talent show with some great

contributions from both classes! We even took our show outside to sit in the afternoon breeze; it was lovely! Our time

team is up and running this week. We have very eager children ready to share their roman numeral and 24 hour time

telling! Children have also begun some great work around resilience and growth mindset which has led to some

interesting discussions in class.

Year 5 This week we had our first BOB session which we all really enjoyed. It was a free play session so we could choose which

activities we wanted to do. We had afternoon tea, cooked in the mud kitchen, made our own den, climbed trees,

created an assault course and more before ending the session with Earth time – this week, trying to identify the

different sounds we could hear

.

Year 6 Year 6 have been using atlases and researching information about the places they were born. They have worked hard to produce a poster or information leaflet. Both classes enjoyed their first proper B.O.B. sessions; the children showed good teamwork and spent some time quietly reflecting about nature.

Meet the Teacher Earlier in the week an invitation was sent to invite you to a virtual "MEET the teacher". This session is designed to give the parents/carers an opportunity to find out more about the class, the environment and the school day. The class teacher will be leading the session and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to raise any queries or questions that you may have. If you haven’t already please choose a session from the available slots emailed to you and at that date and time log into your child's Google Classroom and click on the MEET link near the top of the page. When you first join the MEET could you please click on the mute button at the bottom of your MEET screen to give the teacher the opportunity to introduce themselves.

Parental behaviour Governors and School leaders will not tolerate verbal or physical abuse against any member of the school staff. The Governing Body will take a zero-tolerance approach dealing with such cases, and will fully support the Headteacher in banning parents from the school grounds as required. Every member of staff, and every child, should be able to feel safe within the school environment. Mr Glen Scott, Chair of Governors
