WHAT IS LEARNING?
Three approaches
• Knowledge aquisition • Participation• Knowledge construction
…knowing what is important to know
LEARNING IS…
…ability to collaborate with different people in changing
contexts
…knowing how I learn best
…knowledge about where to draw to boundaries of the problem

Learning today is about creating something new
instead of repeating what is already known.
Learning is largely based on the learning skills…
… which help the individual to take responsibility of one’s own learning, goals and plans in life.
– Active builder of knowledge– Skills for joint problem-solving– Ability to stand uncertainty– Motivation and commitment – Responsibility for one’s own learning

Lähde: Teknologian mahdollisuudet ymmärtävän oppimisen tukena (2008).
Technology is integrated in theLearning contexts! It does not by Itself help learning!
Working with technologycreates situations that may lead to learning!
Lähde: Teknologian mahdollisuudet ymmärtävän oppimisen tukena (2008).
• It is easy to think that technology as such is ready for pedagogical use and the suitable ways of using it come naturally from the technology itself
• Good quality learning needs always effort and work and it takes place in individuals’ minds, with the help of (technological) tools and in social interaction
Järvelä, S. & Häkkinen, P. (2002).
Teacher’s most important job is to create situations that encourage participants into effective social interaction!
