Day 1. Mon 7 Sept: Home Port - Mackay Dinner Flight VA605 Brisbane to Mackay This morning we meet at Brisbane Domestic Airport and board our Virgin Australia flight through to Mackay. Upon arrival we are met by our local coach captain and depart on an introductory town tour. Our tour includes Bluewater Quay, where we marvel at the public art which embraces the heritage and industry sectors of Mackay, as well as the heritage-listed Leichhardt Tree. See the architecturally impressive buildings throughout the CBD, many from the 1920’s and 30’s Art Deco era, after much of the town was re-built following the Great Cyclone of 1918. We purchase our own lunch in the CBD before taking a peaceful afternoon stroll through the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens and later visiting Queens Park Orchid House, home to a large collection of beautiful orchids. A late afternoon check- in at our accommodation awaits, with ample time to relax and freshen up before joining fellow travellers for dinner in the hotel restaurant. Overnight: Oaks Rivermarque - Mackay Day 2. Tue 8 Sept: Sarina & Surrounds Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner This morning after breakfast we depart for Sarina, a welcoming township to the south of Mackay. The area has retained much of its natural charm, while having developed into a thriving business centre servicing the sugar-cane industry. We visit the Sarina Tourist Art and Craft Centre located in the “Old Sarina Court House” and the “Field of Dreams Parkland”, where we discover historical and educational attractions including the Sarina Historical Centre and the Yukan Art Gallery. The award-winning Sarina Sugar Shed is also located at the Field of Dreams Parkland and is Australia’s only miniature sugar mill and distillery. The Sarina Sugar Shed offers a fun and interactive way to learn about the sugar industry and taste the award-winning products made on site. Interested in the coal industry? The Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal is located at nearby Hay Point. The jetty alone is 3.8 kilometres in length, making it one of the largest coal loading jetties in the world. Here we find a lookout at the administration building that includes interpretive signage and fantastic views over this impressive facility. This afternoon we visit Greenmount Homestead, one of Mackay’s most valued historic attractions. Greenmount was developed by AA Cook on the cattle run, first taken up by Captain John Mackay and gifted to the city by the Cook Family in 1984. The 1915 Queenslander homestead houses a collection of more than 20,000 historical items with the gardens and grounds featuring a formal front garden, fernery and arbour. A fascinating and eye-opening visit is assured. Later we return to our accommodation for some free-time before dinner in the hotel restaurant. Day 3. Wed 9 Sept: Pioneer Valley & Eungella Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerThis morning we head west to Freckle Farm, where we see first-hand how the farm produces food in an environmentally and ethically responsible way. Nestled in a gorge at the edge of the Pioneer Valley in North Queensland, Freckle Farm is home to the happiest cows, pigs and chickens we will ever meet – and their five human caretakers. We meet these enterprising farmers and enjoy learning how they produce nationwide award winning meat. We continue on to The Leap, enjoy morning tea & browse the craft shop at Yakapari Country Crafts before heading up the beautiful Pioneer Valley to Eungella and the rainforest. Lunch today is at The Chalet, where we enjoy stunning views of the valley before continuing on to Broken River to spot a platypus and see the ancient rainforest up close. Eungella National Park is home to one of the most reliable places in Australia to spot the elusive platypus - in the wild! From the viewing decks at Broken River, spot this creature in its natural habitat, as well as turtles and other wildlife. Platypus are very shy and a sighting cannot be guaranteed, so please remain as still and quiet as possible to increase your chances of seeing one of these amazing creatures! We return to Mackay and our accommodation late afternoon after a great day of discovery. Dinner tonight is in the hotel restaurant.Overnight: Oaks Rivermarque - Mackay

Day 4. Thur 10 Sept: Earlando & Airlie Beach Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerWith bags packed this morning, we enjoy breakfast and check-out of our Mackay accommodation, heading north to the Whitsunday Coast. En-route we detour via Cape Hillsborough National Park, where the rainforest literally meets the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the tiny seaside village of Seaforth before skirting Proserpine to visit Earlando, a true blue Aussie cattle property set in a glorious beach bay. Enjoy a traditional bush smoko of billy tea and scones at the cattle yards, all the while enjoying some classic yarns before a BBQ lunch including prawns and tasty homemade salads. It’s time to crack the whip this afternoon as we drive into the tour mecca of Cannonvale and Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays where we settle in for the next 3 nights at Best Western Colonial Palms Motor Inn. We enjoy some free-time late afternoon before joining our fellow travellers for dinner in the motel restaurant.Overnight: Western Colonial Palms Motor Inn
