WHY THE PROGRESS REPORTS? Want all your worked hours to count? You MUST turn in your report, BECAUSE IT IS YOUR TIME SHEET and how I track your hours to get credit for the class. The Progress Reports are the instructor’s way of tracking the progress of a intern student throughout the internship without the need to meet in person, which can be complicated by varying schedules. However, if you have pressing issues that can't wait until the next report, please contact instructor right away via phone or email. You will still need to complete all reports, but don't hesitate to get in touch. Progress Reports are also intended to aide you in the creation of your final report called a Final Internship Brief which you will learn more about towards the end of the semester.

Additionally, Progress reports, in particular the time log portion, help aide you in understanding how long it takes you to complete varying tasks and projects, which can be helpful when it comes time to bidding a project (should you decide to freelance one day).

Assuming you are a first-time intern and turned everything in for application materials, you will get to claim these full 20 hours here(2nd-Time Interns can only claim10 Editing Hours). Otherwise, you will deduct the following for each missing item from the 20hours for application materials in this report and instead add them to the 140 hours you would typically work at a location, instead: Draft Cover Letter -3 hrs (2nd-time 1.5hrs) Draft Resume -3 hrs (2nd-time 1.5hrs) Draft Portfolio -3 hrs (2nd-time 1.5hrs) Final Cover Letter -2 hrs (2nd-time 1hr) Final Resume -2 hrs (2nd-time 1hr) Final Portfolio -3 hrs (2nd-time 1.5hrs) Requests/Follow-up -2 hrs (2nd-time 1hr) Interviews -2 hrs (2nd-time 1hr) So for instance, a 1st time intern missing the Final Cover Letter, Resume and Portfolio, who also didn't interview (-9 hours), can only claim 11 hrs instead of 20hrs for application materials, here in this report. And they will be required to instead add those 9 hours to the 140 hours they would have normally work at a location. So on their contract they would write 149 hours instead of 140 hours.

Example of things you might right about on first report: If you HAVEN'T LANDED AN INTERNHIP YET: Attended 1st meeting, prepared Application Materials. Applied to Company A, Company B, Company C, Company D, Company E and Company F. If you've ALREADY STARTED YOUR INTERNSHIP: You would do that above in haven't landed internship PLUSI've worked on X, Y and Z under the direction of Henry, our graphic designer. I was mainly responsible for photo editing and some simple text revisions and layout changes.

Example of things you might right about on first report: If you HAVEN'T LANDED AN INTERNHIP YET: Company A, B and D E and F did not respond. I was bummed, but Company C interviewed me and I am waiting to hear back from them on Friday. I hope they take me. I didn't realize it was so hard to get an internship and that I would have to apply at so many places. The waiting game is the worst and gives me anxiety. If you've ALREADY STARTED YOUR INTERNSHIP: I've learned that the pace of the industry is really fast, way faster than school. I had 12 hours (split in 2 days) to design an ad for a company to put in a magazine. Stressful to be creative

Example of things you might right about on first report: If you HAVEN'T landed an internship yet: I am really starting to freak out, should I apply at more places? If so where do you recommend? Should I call company B to see when they will have an answer for me. If you've ALREADY STARTED YOUR INTERNSHIP: I am concerned that I work too slow for the industry and that I dont come up with ideas fast enough, is there anythign I can do to improve in this area? Also, I'm not sure if I should ask questions, I don't want to bother anyone, they seem so busy. —or—N/A if you have no concerns or questions :)
