Monday, October 6, Day 1 - Welcome to New OrleansOur trip to fabulous NOLA (New Orleans, LA) begins with our 12 noon non-stop United Airlines flight from Newark Liberty arriving at 2:09pm. We will be met by our local guide who will give an overview of the “Big Easy” during our short drive to the city. A box lunch will be provided upon arrival. Tuesday, October 7, Day 2 – The French QuarterWear your comfortable shoes as today we WALK through New Orleans fabulous French Quarter focusing on its architecture and history. Our first stop is The Presbytere, a 1797 National Historic Landmark. Originally intended as a home for the priests of neighboring St. Louis Cathedral, the structure now houses permanent and changing exhibitions on Louisiana culture and history. A highlight is “Mardi Gras: It's Carnival Time in Louisiana.” Parades, Balls and the Courir du Mardi Gras are explored in this newly renovated show. Our tour continues to historic houses where we explore the culture and history of this city's colorful and hospitable past. From graceful verandas that wrap homes, to elegant parlors filled with period furniture, the historic homes of New Orleans are architectural treasures. We visit the Hermann-Grima Home, one of the earliest and best examples of American architecture in the French Quarter. Authentically restored, this 1831 mansion and its richly planted courtyard, a National Historic Landmark, accurately depicts the gracious lifestyle of a prosperous Creole family.

After a relaxing break over lunch we continue on to The Cabildo, one of the most historically significant buildings in America. As the site of the Louisiana Purchase transfer in 1803, it is a cultural and historic treasure. Wander through this elegant 18th-century building. Walk up its magnificent, winding stairway where will find more than 1,000 artifacts and original works of art. Visit one of NOLA’s many fabulous restaurants on your own this evening. (B/L)

Wednesday, October 8, Day 3 – Museums and GalleriesGet ready for a treat as we visit the New Orleans Museum of Art, with its more than 15,000 works of art. The collection ranges from antiquity to the present from a myriad of cultures and continents. Located next to the magnificent New Orleans Museum of Art, we explore the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, a true New Orleans treasure. Set on five acres, this outdoor space has over 50 priceless modern and contemporary pieces meant to inspire art lovers of all kinds. After lunch we visit The New Orleans African American Museum (NOAAM) with its mission of preserving, interpreting and promoting African American cultural heritage of New Orleans, and the African Diaspora with a particular emphasis on the Faubourg Tremé Community. For much of its early history, Tremé was the largest and most prosperous community of free people of color in America. It is one of the oldest African-American urban communities in the United States. Founded in 1810, Tremé’s history is unique in the African American Experience. Tonight we continue our NOLA adventure with “Dinner and Jazz.” (B/L/D)

Thursday, October 9, Day 4 – Museum and GalleriesToday we experience four very different art venues starting at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art which celebrates the history, art, and culture of the American South. The Ogden is home to the largest and most comprehensive collection of Southern art in the world. We then walk around the corner to the galleries on Julia Street to see works by artists who may someday grace the Ogden's walls and some that already do. We visit the Contemporary Art Center (CAC). Since 1976, the CAC has led the transformation of NOLA's Warehouse District into the vibrant cultural hub that it is today. Over 30,000 square feet (it is a warehouse, after all) hosts bold experiments in studio and performing arts of all kinds, with world-class exhibitions, shows, educational programs and celebrations happening year-round. Step inside, admire its award-winning architecture and airy, transformational space and check out this happening place. After lunch we tour the National World War II Museum which has received acclaim for its collection of rich artifacts from the Battle of D-Day and subsequent campaigns. This stunning national museum, honoring the heroes and events of World War II, traces America's history from the early moments of the 1930s preceding the war to the Normandy Invasion and the decisive battles that led to victory in Europe and the Pacific. Return to the hotel and get ready for a celebratory Farewell Dinner. (B/L/D)
