When the band went out to tour in support of the new record, Troy Van Leeuwen joined up as second guitarist to helprecreate the discs more sophisticated arrangements. The first single from this 1996 masterpiece, "Stuck on You," becamea minor alt-radio and MTV hit. It seemed that the public had picked up on the enthusiasm that so many critics andmusicians shared.

The founding force and career-long creative core of consisted of multi-instrumentalists Ken Andrews and GregFailureEdwards, a '90s songwriting team practically unrivaled within the claustrophobic confines of post-grunge American rock.The two constantly switched guitar and bass duties in the studio while Andrews took lead vocal duties on the group's threerecordings -- Edwards has been credited in interviews with having come up with most of Failure's lyrics.

When the group performed live, Edwards played bass while Andrews managed most guitar duties, but in the studio, theywould interchange often, with Edwards adding keyboard work and even some drumming. As the group matured and theirrecording chops sharpened, Andrews became the band's producer/engineer and even began selling his services in thiscapacity with fine results.

After Failur broke up, Andrews went on to form the one-manned outfit ON and continued his lucrativeproducing/engineering career that has included projects with Ednaswap, Skycycle, Creeper Lagoon, and Tenacious D.Edwards went on to form the well-received Autolux. Scott has since played with Ice Man, Guns N' Roses, and eventuallyjoined as a permanent member of Blinker the Star. Van Leeuwen played with Enemy and then helped form A PerfectCircle. It's little surprise that musicians capable of creating such transcendent rock were in such demand once they had theopportunity to share their many talents.

Childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass) formed their first band, Sweet Children, inRodeo, California when they were 14 years old. "All I know is that I've made the album that I am proudest of in my life. It is mine," reveals Katherine.

There was an express intention of crafting something new. "My usual way of working on my previous six albums was topick the tracks, have the arrangements done for me and then go into the studio and sing...But collaborating with DavidFoster, Jenkins had some bold ideas starting with selecting Evanescence's 2003 worldwide goth-pop smash "Bring Me toLife". She had connected to the urgency of the original version. With David's radical orchestral rewiring of the song - outwith percussion and in with pulsating beat of strings, this touchstone song was the start of the album taking shape.

When Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" was presented to her as a possible cut for the album, she thought it was aninspired idea. She began to imagine her own unique take on the classic in her head. "When you are taking classicalcrossover music to the next step, it's all about how it is going to translate to the bigger setting. I immediately could imagineperforming this song live. And one of the extraordinary things about Foster is his ability to understand the point in a songwhen the music would make the audience stand up and applaud. Our collective goal was to create that moment in thestudio setting," commented Katherine.

"My favorite song on the record is ‘Believe' which I had the honor to sing with Andrea Bocelli. Though we've sung togetherbefore, we've never recorded together. Instead of a traditional opera duet, we went for a new reading of a pop song. It'snot about turning my voice into a pop singer's voice. It's just my vocal and emotional interpretation of a pop song," addedJenkins.

Katherine's special reading of Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" was pared down by Foster on the production end. "I wanted it tofeel like a song that I was singing around the house - very intimate and personal."

At 29 years of age, Katherine, a native from the tiny village of Neath in the Welsh Valley in humble surroundings, is takingit up to diva level and is ready to expand her horizons on a global scale.

"Everyone has their own definition of a diva. When I think of a diva, I think of a voice. I think of a woman who'sindependent and in charge of her own career. I think of a woman who knows what she wants to do artistically. I think of awoman who does that thing effortlessly. I'm more than ready to go down that path," claims Katherine.

Antifogmatic is seamlessly sequenced to display the collective imagination, the instrumental and vocal power, of the band-Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjo player Noam Pikelny, and fiddler Gabe Witcher. Though thequintet is now based in New York City, where they have an informal residency at Manhattan's The Living Room, theyrecorded and mixed the album at Hollywood's historic Ocean Way studio with iconoclastic producer Jon Brion (BradMehldau, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Kanye West) and engineer Greg Koller. Says Witcher, "We knew we needed aproducer equally as well-versed in pop and rock as in instrumental music, and I don't think there is anyone more able tocapture and communicate the essence of this material than Jon Brion."

The arrangements on range from intimate to boisterous and back; genre-wise, the band once againAntifogmaticventures where no string band has ever gone before. The spare opening track "You Are" contrasts percussive guitar riffswith lyrical string parts that dance around Thile's sweet upper register as he spins a tale of romantic emancipation;occasionally, the other instruments give way to reveal the throb of the bass. The band also engages in some unexpectedlybeautiful harmony singing, smoothing out the compelling melodic twists and turns of "Welcome Home." "Me and Us" and"Woman and the Bell" both have a dream-like quality; the former, in fact, was inspired by those jumbled, thought-filledmoments before sleep sets in, and the instrumentation keeps pace with the ever-shifting imagery. In contrast, "Don't NeedNo" and "Rye Whiskey" are foot-stomping barroom boasts and"Next to the Trash" is the closest the band gets to traditionalbluegrass, even as the lyrics tug the piece in a more surreal direction.

Antifogmatic is seamlessly sequenced to display the collective imagination, the instrumental and vocal power, of the band-Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjo player Noam Pikelny, and fiddler Gabe Witcher. Though thequintet is now based in New York City, where they have an informal residency at Manhattan's The Living Room, theyrecorded and mixed the album at Hollywood's historic Ocean Way studio with iconoclastic producer Jon Brion (BradMehldau, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Kanye West) and engineer Greg Koller. The arrangements on range from intimate to boisterous and back; genre-wise, the band once againAntifogmaticventures where no string band has ever gone before. Some time in the last few years Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers took a left turn. The first thing that hits you about is that the spirit of the Mudcrutch sessions has carried on with the Heartbreakers.MOJOThis is the sound of a band playing together in a room - not a studio - facing each other, all singing and playing at thesame time. The music is alive, with no overdubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what they created on the spot at thattime.
