Examined material: MOROCCO - Rabat, sur le mur externe de I’Institut Scientifique, col. ?, ?/V1/1939, 1 cc‘ 1 young c<‘ 2 OC (MP).

The only adult niale of this saiiiple shows a not well preserved chaetotaxy and a quite diffuse hy- podermic pigmental pattern (very long perinanence iri alcohol) particularly in the palps and legs, which prevents an accurated subspecific determination; the traces of brownish pigment suggest, however, in addition to the geographical origin of the speci- mens, that they inay belong to the iiioroccan de- scribed subspecies, M . r. oiilnzesi Bitsch. 1968.

Lq)ist>icicliilis (Lepisriicichilis) sp. has nlready been noticed froiii Israel by WYGODZlNSKY (1952); the absence of iiiales in the studied saiii- ples inakes inipossible, again, to know which spe- cies of this genus is present in the hebrew fauna.

The genus and the species are here foriiially noticed by the first time in Africa, though they have previously been pointed a s part of tlie algerian fauna, i n a note (MENDES, 1990).

The iiiaterial agrees quite well with the redes- cription of the species based on italian material (BACH DE ROCA, 1982) and with several speci- niens froiii european countries we had tlie chance to study; soiiie iiiinor differences have been ob- served, however, mainly in the length and width of the feinural sensorial field, which seeiiis longer in the algerian iiiales; the ratios found i n the speci- niens froiii the Edough mountains are as follows: FL/FW: 2.29; SFL/SFW: 2.64; SFL/FL: 0.5 1; SFW/FW: 0.43; d/SFL: 0.82 and d/SFW: 2.21; the legs, as is typical, are alniost devoided of spini-

Exaiiiined material: ALGERIA - Daya Brydyia. OTIM, 20/11/1945, 1 d (MP).

The species seems common i n Algeria, from where i t was described (LUCAS, 1846) and fur- ther noticed by LUCAS (1849), SILVESTRI (1906 and 19071, WYGODZINSKY (1941 and 1957) and PACLT (1969). This only niale, collected some 70 k m south of Sidi-Bel-Abbes, ful ly agrees with the general characteristics of the species.

Pnrcinicichilis rifensis Bitsch, 1966

Exainined material: MOROCCO - Harcha, col. ?, 4/VI /1939, 1 d (MP) . AFRIQUE DU NORD - without further data, 1 d (MP).

The speciniens, both quite probably froiti Morocco, agree fairly with the description of the species (BITSCH, 1966); the original and only further mate- rial, has been coliected in Northern Morocco also.

Pcirciincicliilis spp.

Examined material: ALGERIA - Ourtzarh, OTIM, 6/11/1945, 1 d 1 young d (hlP), very badly

Proriiesoiiicicli ilis li ispeiriicci Si 1 ves tri, 1 923

Exainined material: MOROCCO - Dar Kaid, embarkinent, col . P. Pallary, ?/?/1914, 5 QQ (MP).

Prontesoiiicicliilis Silvestri, has been noticed to occur i n Morocco by WYGODZINSKY (1941), ivho described P. heiridsclii~ii froni Marrakech based on feinales only. As we suggested before (hIENDES, 1977) and as BACH DE ROCA & JANETSCHEK (1 983) confirmed, P. hnndschini is no more than a recent synonymous of P. Iiispaiiicci; the Dar Kaid feniales agree with this conclusion.

Neocrsterolcpisnta crcissipes (Escherich, 1905)

Examined material: TUNISIA - Saouaf, 27/III/1986, 2 de 1 C 1 young ? (MC).

A typical niediterranean species (MENDES, 1988), h'. crcissiyes has been described from Tuni- sia (ESCHERICH, 1905) and later noticed again to this sanie country by MENDES (1980).

Neoasterolepisiiicr gaiitliieri (Wygodzinsky. 1941)

Exaniined material: TUNISIA - Maktar, 9/111/1986, col. ?, 2 dcf 1 O (MC).

Described from Algeria (WYGODZINSKY, 1941) the species has been further noticed to this sanie country only (MENDES, 1980). It is now signalized for the first time in Tunisia.

Neocisteroleyisntci syectcibilis (Wygodzinsky ,1945)

Examined material: MOROCCO: Agadir, ?/V/ 1939, col. Vachon, l Q (MP). PATRIA IGNOTA, no date, no colector, 1 cr" (MP).

The male specimen was accoinpanied (tvith further material inside the same tube) by two la- bels: Agadir, col. Vachon, ?/V/1939, and Tani- zikhit, vers Tizi n'Melloul, 3000-3200 ni, col. J . de I'Epiney, 14/IX/1937; i t conies, quite probably, froni Agadir, like the feniale.

Thr species is know'n froin the ibero-nioroccan area as it has been noticed by MENDES (1988) and i t \vas registered i n Northern Africa froni Morocco only (MENDES, 19SO and 1988).

Ncons te rolrpist iici wmtiiciiiti ii (Mo n i ez, 1 894)

Esamined material: PATRIA IGNOTA - The only r- of the sample kvas inside a tube coming froin the MP without any label.

This niale shows a not specially enlarged tibia 111, qu i t e similar to what has been figured to males coilected in Turkey and in Morocco (MENDES, 1988, p. 191, figs. 866 and 867). As stated before,

this species needs a carefull and complete revi- sion, to which a grenter iiuiiiber of well preserved iidult specimens, niainly iiiales, is needed.

The speciinens are too young to allow any infrageneric deterniination; the type of specialized sensillae of antennae, the iype and position of the notal trichobothrial areas and the type of urotergal setation are typical to the genus.
