Principal’s Report Dear School Community, The Term 3 COVID-19 Advice for Families was updated last week and communicated via email. A reminder that some of the key points of this update were as follows:

• In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. Schools will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu like symptoms to be sent home.

• NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.

• Students and staff with flu like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school.

• Where possible, students will stay within their relevant cohort group (i.e. class, year group, or stage) for all learning activities within their school in order to limit close contacts to the relevant student cohort.

• Inter school activities must remain within the local community or zone. This applies to all interschool sport and physical activities, curriculum activities, arts activities and extra-curricular activities organised or sponsored by the school. Schools must not travel outside of their local community area. Metropolitan schools cannot travel outside their local area or to regional areas. Regional areas cannot travel into metropolitan areas or other regional areas. There will be more communication about sport arrangements to come this week..

• Only providers that are essential to the delivery of curriculum can continue to provide services and programs until further notice.

• Non-essential visitors are not allowed on the school site.

• Parents/carers should not be on the school site unless it has been co-ordinated with the school for example, a wellbeing or disciplinary meeting. In this case, parents/carers will be required to fill out a 'External Visitors to School Site Form' found at the enquiries desk (Front Office area).

• All group singing (choirs) and/or other chanting activities, as well as the use of wind instruments in group settings, are not permitted. There has been separate communication in regards to IMP students and families.

• School graduation ceremony arrangements to be reviewed in term 4.

It is expected that the guideline will be in place for the remainder of this term. This week was “SASS Recognition Week”. I want to publicly thank our wonderful SASS and Support staff for all their selfless hard work. On a separate note, in the last fortnight we have had an increase in the number of incidents from parents/carers being aggressive towards staff members in person, over the phone, as well as in written communication. I would like to take the opportunity to remind our school community that this is completely unacceptable. In this edition of highlights, I’m including the School Community Charter, which is a reminder that respectful communication will ultimately lead us to maintaining a learning environment that is collaborative, supportive and cohesive. Talented Athlete Program

5

The Talented Athlete Program re-commenced in Term 3 involving 30 students from Year 7 to Year 9 who were selected based on their application and fitness trials that were conducted that examined cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance and strength, power and speed.

The program aims to assist selected athletes achieving their goals in their chosen sport through competitive fitness training sessions. The aim of fitness training in Term 3 is to provide students with a variety of various types of aerobic, interval and circuit training methods to improve their general athletic fitness. In Term 4, sessions will be tailored to specify specific athletic needs of students in various individual and team sport categories. After two training sessions thus far, Ms Ashbolt provided specific instruction

and skill development in sprinting and pushed students to their limits in an

‘anaerobic/lactic training session’. Recently, Mr Tintner provided a very intense

session called the “500” involving muscular endurance and mental strength.

Well done to the commitment of these students who have participated with

enthusiasm and excitement! The PDHPE staff look forward to continuing this

engaging extra curricular activity while maintaining student safety during the

current sport and physical activity restrictions in the school community.

Mr Glynne—Acting Head Teacher PDHPE
