Recent tragic events have heightened everyone’s awareness of the constant need to be vigilant and observant in our lives. The JCC and many other organiza-tions across North America are prepar-ing to upgrade the level of security in their buildings.
In the next few days, you will begin to see evidence of this work. Cables and cameras are being installed through-out the building, thanks to a security grant from the Kentucky Colonels and a generous anonymous contribution to cover the required match portion of the project.
But cameras only represent a small part of how we are raising the level of security. The most effective way to protect everyone in the building is to limit unauthorized access. On Monday, March 4, 2013, we will switch to a ONE ENTRY/ONE EXIT policy. The new policy requires you to enter and exit through the main lobby doors Sunday-Friday and the Health and Wellness entrance by the Outdoor Pool on Saturday.
We ask that all members and staff scan their membership cards at the main desk Sunday-Friday and the Health and
Wellness desk on Saturday. If you have misplaced your membership card, please let us know so we may issue you a new one. We will also contact members to make sure everyone has a picture on file. If you are a guest to our building, you will now be required to check in at the main desk (Sunday-Friday) or Health and Wellness desk (Saturday).
Our children are our future and we need to take care for their safety and protection. The Early Childhood Depart-ment will also be a part of our One Entry/Once Exit system. We will be distribut-ing full drop off and pick up details in the coming weeks for your child(ren)’s teacher or caregiver to help make this an easier transition for all.
There are many doors throughout our building that will be designated as Emer-gency Doors ONLY! These doors will be clearly marked over the next two weeks in order to familiarize everyone before we activate the alarms. We ask for your cooperation in finding alternate means of entry and exit in order to maintain a secure facility. Some areas which are used for programs may, at our discre-tion, have the alarms turned off during
the allotted program scheduled time. At these times, our staff will be sure to disarm and open the doors prior to the program.
We are happy to continue hosting events and committee meetings in our facility and ask for your cooperation by signing in and providing identification at the desks. We have asked our staff and event planners to provide the desk staff with a list of participants for these events. Please help us speed up the process by being prepared to sign in and present some identification if you are asked by our staff.
This is just the beginning of our efforts to provide you with a secure and safe environment on our campus. We will be updating you on a regular basis as we continue to upgrade the facility for your safety.
Thank you for your cooperation. Your safety is our priority.
Security is Everyone’s Concern
January is ending, and with it, some of the coldest temperatures of winter. An-other thing that usually ends in January is motivation to keep new year’s resolutions. Do not give up on working out! The JCC is ready to shake things up with a new Team Trek competition. Team Trek: Around the World in 80 Days will start Monday, February 11.
New this trek, finishing teams will be rewarded with much-improved prizes and discounts to other JCC activities. As al-ways, find four other people to complete a five-person team. The Health and Wellness desk will have a list of free agents. The cost to register is $5 per person or $25
per team. Starting February 11, every 30 minutes of exercise at the JCC will equal 100 miles for your team. Teams will visit Bolivia, South Africa, Singapore and more during the 80-day journey. The 53,845-mile trek ends Thursday, May 2.
During the last Team Trek, U.S. Edi-tion, 19 teams competed to travel around the United States. Together they logged almost 125,000 miles, representing more than 3,000 hours of workouts at the JCC!
So stay motivated and keep working out at the JCC! To register for Team Trek: Around the World in 80 Days, stop by the Health and Wellness Desk or call 502-238-2727.

With a cast of more than 60, Center-Stage is bringing one of the best loved Biblical dramas to life with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat presented by Hilliard Lyons, February 21-March 3.
The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice tells the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors. With virtually no dialogue, Joseph and the Amazing Tech-nicolor Dreamcoat is sung in a cornucopia of musical styles, ranging from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll. “This show is guaranteed to make you smile throughout the entire production as it teaches us that faith can overcome dispair,” says Greg Vincenti, the title sponsor of the show.
CenterStage made their mark on the theatre community of Louisville with that same 2004 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. “This will be the fifth time I have directed Joseph and I’m equally excited for this production
as I was for the first,” said John R. Leffert, CenterStage Artistic Director.
“What CenterStage and John R. Leffert bring to its audience is a rousing, joyful spectacular extravaganza by displaying some of the very best talent in our com-munity,” says Vincenti.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has a cast of more than 60, including 40 children. Kate Reedy, who recently played Mimi in RENT and Sarah in Company, will star as the Narrator, and Robbie Lewis, recently seen as Gabe in Next to Normal, will don the coat of many colors and lead this production as the title character, Joseph. Jeremy Moon, who played Joseph in both prior productions, will be featured as a brother and “Angel in Heaven” soloist. Gene Dorf, a longtime CenterStage favorite, will reprise his role as Jacob.
Tickets are on sale now, call 459-0660 or visit www.CenterStageJCC.org!
