The methods are applied in elastoplastic analyses at small deformation: thick cylinder under internal pressure, thick cylinder in strain hardening materials, and a tunnel in plane strain. The Davidon-Fletcher-Powell (DFP) method combined with the initial stress method is much more efficient than the initial stress method.
