We are the only secondary school in New Westminster, and one of the largest in the entire province of BC. The “N’Dub Environment Club” prides itself in its proactive commitment to preserving our global environment through school and community-wide projects.

Bokashi Bins in Classrooms

Many food scraps from students and teachers snacking in class end up in the trash. Along with composting in the cafeteria, several classrooms have smaller “bokashi” composting bins to combat this.

Battery Recycling Program

The NWSS Battery Recycling is an ongoing and annual event that has been occurring for a few years at New Westminster Secondary School. Many individual classrooms have their very own recycled, battery containers to encourage more students and staff to recycle their used batteries. Currently we have collected over sixty pounds of used batteries. As an event that developed from the Environment Club, New Westminster Secondary School is contributing to the protection of our environment by preventing the release of harmful heavy metals.

Can You Contain It?

“Can You Contain-It” is a student-backed campaign aimed to promote the awareness for the amount of packaging material unnecessarily wasted. A project erupted in New West Secondary, Fraser Heights, Gleneagle, and Rockridge Secondary that encourages students to develop a "Bring-Your-Own" Attitude around cafeterias and restaurants.

Salmon Raise and Release

Pacific salmon make an epic journey defeating all odds to return to their spawning ground to ensure their populations live on. Habitat decimation and pollution, however, are an obstacle that salmon are not able to overcome Our chum salmon are currently in the fry stage of their lives. When they are big enough to survive on their own, we will be releasing them, increasing their chances of surviving to reproduce and helping salmon populations in BC

More available funds would give us the opportunity to expand our projects, and create new projects that will help us all

do our part in protecting the environment.
