Presenters: Jay Holmes, Department of Education, AMNH, AMNH Students and volunteers There has been some fun microscope work at the Museum over the past year. The AMNH Education Department worked with a wide variety of audiences, from City Librarians to family groups with young children. From a couple students grinding lenses to 1200 people participating in a family event. In these various programs we use a variety of microscopes, hand tools and objects to observe. Join us for a sampling of some of these Museum activities. It will be a great opportunity to think about opportunities for outreach and perhaps brainstorm some new ways to share our love of the smaller things in life with people of all ages. The event will include a short presentation and some hands-on fun: - Students making microscopes from glass, brass, and wood, - Darwin’s microscopy on the Beagle and at Down House and - Fun tools and objects that we use with family engagement activities.
