New York is the most populous city in the United States. A leading global city, New York exerts a powerful influence over worldwide commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment.

Located on a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United Sates, the city consists of five boroughs:

New York city is located in the Northeastern United States, in southeastern New York State. At the mouth of the Hudson River and then into the Atlantic Ocean.

Independence war: (1775-1783)It began as a war between the Kingdom of Great

Britain and thirteen former British colonies in North America, and concluded in a global war between several European great powers.

In 1783, the Treaty of Paris ended the war and recognized the sovereignty of the United States.

Eleven Southern slave states declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America (the Confederacy). They fought against the United States (the Union) which, led by the Republican President Abraham Lincoln, were against the expansion of slavery.
