Blood Pressure Clinics - Courtesy of the Berlin Visiting Nurse Assoc., you can now get your blood pressure checked on the 2nd and 4th, Thursday of the month, from 10:00-12:00pm.

File of Life — Many of you have picked up the red File of Life packets. It is very important that the infor-mation be filled out carefully and correctly so that the Emergency Medical responders can utilize it.

Hearing Screening by Hearing Care Centers — Do you find yourself asking people to repeat things? Are you missing out on conversations? You may be ex-periencing hearing loss. Please call the office to schedule an appointment. The screenings are free of charge. They will also clean and check hearing aids of competitive users.

Massage—We are happy to offer massages at the Senior and Disabled Center with Holly Spencer, Licensed Massage Therapist (license #003959). Fees are $30 for 30 minutes and $50 for 60 minutes. You can choose to be partially clothed or not. To schedule an appointment please call Holly at 860 992-6577.

Wellness Clinic — Our Center Nurse, Stacie Zibel, is available each Monday to serve your health needs. Services include blood pressure screening, cholester-ol screening, diabetes screening, nutrition and medi-cation counseling, information and referral. There is a $5.00 fee for Cholesterol Screening only. All other services are free to members!

Reiki/Reflexology - Sandy Macksey, Certified Re-flexologist, is now offering both services at the Center to Center Members at a discounted price.. Fees are $30 for 30 minutes and $50 for 60 minutes. Call Sandy at 860 578-2504 to schedule an appointment.

Foot Care Services — Foot care services are provid-ed by Cathy Brennan, RN, at a low cost for senior citi-zens. Services include a general assessment of the feet and lower extremities, trimming, filing and clean-ing toe nails, reducing of corns and calluses, massag-ing, applying lotion and powdering of feet. Referrals to MD/Podiatrist when necessary. Please call the of-fice for an appointment. Home visits available. The cost is $29.00 per visit.

Silver Sneakers Chair Exercise - Are you looking for a way to increase your strength and maintain your fitness level? Previously only available at gyms, we are pleased to present this program designed by Sil-ver Sneakers and led by a fitness expert from Health-trax. Aerobics, Zumba, Yoga, Tai Chi - Check out the Newington Parks and Recreation brochure for a list-ing of all their instructor-led programs.

Blood Pressure Screenings— The Berlin VNA will hold blood pressure screening clinics on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 10—12 noon.

Chair Aerobics — Chair aerobics continues throughout the year. Sessions are held every Tues-day and Friday at 10:30am. Enjoy a beneficial workout without jumping and without stress on the heart and lungs. No registration is required and no fee!

Line Dancing - The Line Dancing Group meets every Thursday, in the Auditorium, at 12:30pm.

Walk With Us - Join in on this stimulating video based exercise program on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, in the A&B Room, from 12:30 - 1:00. No registration - no fee.

Fitness Room — The fitness room continues to be a popular spot. If you are not a current fitness room member-check it out. Please keep the equipment in tip-top shape by bringing in a separate pair of sneak-ers to use in the room. The sand on your shoes from outside is harmful to the equipment. We appreciate your cooperation. In order to take advantage of this hidden treasure you need to be a member of our Center, present a note from your doctor and enroll and participate in a one-time Fitness Clinic. The next Fitness Clinic for participants who wish to use the fit-ness room is scheduled for JULY 10/AUGUST 14, 2018, from 11:30am to 1:30pm. There is a $15.00 fee for this session. Sign up in the Main Office. The Fit-ness Room is closed to participants during the Fit-ness Clinics to accommodate those learning to use the equipment.

Beading — The beading group meets on Monday mornings at 10:00AM, in the Card Room. Registration is not necessary.

Bingo — Bingo is held on Thursdays, in the Café. The game starts around 1:00pm.

Bridge Players — If you are interested, join the group on Friday afternoons, in the Card Room, at 12:30pm. Looking for Bridge players!

Canasta — Mondays & Wednesday’s at 1:00pm. Stop by the Card Room if you are interested in joining.

Cribbage — Cribbage in the Cafeteria on Mondays, at 10:00am. New players always welcome. No sign up needed.

Knitting — The Knitting Group meets on Mondays at 9:30am. Drop in if you are interested.

Mah Jongg — Play MahJong on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9:30AM, in the Card Room. The group welcomes new members (beginners or ex-perienced). Stop by if you would like to join.

Oil Painting — Check the Parks and Recreations brochure for class listings.

Pinochle — Fridays, at 12:30pm, in the Card Room. 4 person partners, double deck. No registration need-ed. Pool Room/Card Room — Just a reminder that our Pool Room is open for use. The lights may be off to conserve energy, but feel free to go in.

Setback — Playing Setback is fun! Meet new people - partner not needed. Sign up for playing on Wednesdays at 12:30pm.

Wii Bowling—If you would like to try Wii Bowling stop by the senior center on Wednesday’s and meet the team at 9:30am or 10:00am.

Woodshop — Do you have carpentry skills but lack the space for a proper workshop? The Center Wood-shop is open for use to our members who have expe-rience and wish to work on personal projects.

INFORMATION AND REFERRAL CENTER Located across the hall from the Main Office, our In-formation and Referral Center is a one stop shop for information about all kinds of programs and services that can help older adults and their families. The Cen-ter is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Our trained volunteer Community Infor-mation Specialists are available to assist you. Call the office and leave your name and number and they will contact you.

Medicare Savings Program If your income is be-low $2,472.30 per month for a single or $3,328.38 per month for a couple then you may qualify for the Medi-are Savings Program. If you qualify you may receive help to pay for your Medicare premiums and in some cases, for your Medicare coinsurance and deducti-bles.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM The next Driver Safety Program will be held on Thursday, AUGUST 2, 2018. Save at least 5% on your Auto Insurance. This AARP-sponsored Safe Driving Program encompasses the latest techniques in driving with special emphasis on defensive driving. This is a classroom training only; there is no in-the-car training. Upon completion of this class, you will receive a certif-icate of completion .Registration for this class will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

CHOICES -- Choosing health insurance can be con-fusing. Health insurance counseling is available on an individual basis for anyone with questions about exist-ing coverage or for new plans. Call the center at 860-

665-8778 to schedule an appointment with a trained CHOICES counselor.

Newington Senior Community Café The Com-munity Café at the Senior and Disabled Center pro-vides a nutritious and well-balanced meal and an op-portunity to socialize in a congenial setting. Monthly menus are available. Make sure to call the Lunch Line at 860-667-5837 between 10:00am and 11:45am, the day before to reserve your meal. You must be registered with the Community Café to participate. This program is for people 60 years of age and older. There is a suggested donation of $2.50 for your meal.

EconomicCheckUp is a service of the National Coun-cil on Aging (NCOA), a nonprofit service and advoca-cy organization. For a limited time, the Newington Senior and Disabled Center will offer free screenings to adults over 55. Answer a few simple questions and learn how you can better manage your budget, save money, and set financial goals. It’s free, confidential, and from a trusted source--the nonprofit National Council on Aging. Call (860) 665-8778 today to make an appointment. Are you making the most of your money? It’s free and easy to find out.

PAPER-SHREDDING SERVICE AT THE SENIOR CENTER— There are two bins located right outside the Main Office. These bins are there for your use. Simply drop all your unwanted confidential pa-perwork in the paper slot. These bins are locked and secured. The Infoshred Company will stop by on an as-needed basis to remove the contents from the bins and all the documents are shredded onsite. Non-

confidential papers can be put into the regular blue box. This is a service for our members only! If you have any questions, feel free to stop by our main of-fice, or call 860-665-8778.

Note: Each club has its own membership require-ments and annual dues. These are separate from the Senior and Disabled Center membership. Each per-son attending the Center must have a valid Senior and Disabled Center membership.

Senior Club — Senior Club meets on Mondays at 1:00 PM..

Singing Seniors of Newington — The Singers meet on Wednesday mornings. If you like to sing and can carry a tune give us a try.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), the nation’s oldest non-profit weight loss organization, invites you to be-come a member by attending our meetings every Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00am. Red Hot Divas - Welcome interested persons. Come share an event without obligation to join. The group gets together monthly at varying locations to talk, eat, play cards or visit a specific venue. Call Dot at 860- 666-1881 or Rani at 860- 666-1835 if you are interest-ed in joining.

Dial-A-Ride may be used by any Newington resi-dent, age 55 and older or any resident who has a disa-bility in accordance with the American’s with Disabili-ties Act. Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb service. This means that passengers must be able to enter and exit the vehicle and their home on their own or with the assistance of an escort provided by the passenger.

The Senior & Disabled Center is seeking donations of neckties to be used for exercises during chair aerobics classes. Please drop off any donations at the main office.

COMMISSION ON AGING AND DISABILITY The Commission on Aging and Disability, a group of residents who have been appointed by the Town Council, provides input regarding programs to the Sen-ior and Disabled Center. The public is always wel-come to attend and provide input, suggestions and express any concerns to the Commission. What’s Your Opinion? There is a suggestion box inside our main office. We encourage you to jot your opinion/comment/compliment or complaint down and put it in the box.
