Exalted Ruler’s Column
Hello All,
The vote on the by-laws is behind us. 104 members were in attendance. The by-laws will
go into effect on April 1, 2020. The Lodge will go smoke free. For those of you that said if
we didn’t meet every week you would attend, well our first meeting of the new Lodge year
will be held the second Thursday, April 9th. Meetings will be held the second and fourth Thursdays each
month.
Election of officers has also passed. I want to thank everyone who stepped up again this year. I must admit,
there will not be as many new officers as I had hoped.
Our Appreciation Dinner will be held March 25th and Installation of Officers will take place on March 28th.
Hope to see a good turnout for both events.
Our State Convention was hosted by Florence Lodge #314 the weekend of February 20th. Jesse Shipp was
installed as our new State President. Our State Sponsor for the last 28 years, PGER Lester “Ted” Hess, an-
nounced his retirement. For those who have had the opportunity to meet him, you know what an outstand-
ing man and Elk he was for us. PGER Ron Hicks from Virginia will be our new State Sponsor.
We received three grants from the Grand Lodge ENF this year for a total of $6500. We will be working with
Brighton Center to assist new mothers with supplies; Newport Primary to help children register for Kinder-
garten for the coming year; and the Barracks Project to assist homeless veterans. If you see boxes around
the Lodge, now you know why.
Lent is in full swing, if you have some free time on your hands, we could probably find something for your
hands to do.
I have been bragging about something since last week and I might as well keep it up. I am a Grandpa for the
first time! I get it, many of you have been there, but not to be biased, my granddaughter is the cutest and
smartest one ever. Oh year, Vicky is a Granny.

Secretary’s Corner
By now, you will have received your dues notice in the mail or personally delivered by me. Thanks to those
of you who have already been sending in your dues for 2020/2021. Checks will be deposited on April 1st. I
also mailed out the final 36 notices for delinquent dues – please get those dues in because we do not want
to lose any member on our roster.
We are planning to have another initiation on March 19th (four applications have been received thus far). If
you have anyone who has thought about becoming a member, now is the time to get those applications in.
If I have them in by March 5th, we can get them in for our final Grand Exalted Ruler requested initiation.
Total cost will be the Initiation Fee of $30 and the dues payment of $82.50 for 2020/2021.
Now I am going to have my bragging moment – and not what you think – during the State Convention there
were 10 contestants for the 11 O’clock Toast Competition to represent Kentucky in the Grand Lodge Com-
petition in Baltimore in July. Your Exalted Ruler Raymond Pauly, Jr., will be Kentucky’s representative!
I could not be any prouder of him since he has not competed since 2003 when he was last ER.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at 859-380-3250 or you can email me at [email protected].

How to access the Lodge Website to sign up for the News Alerts and Newsletters
There are always questions regarding how to get onto the lodge webpage to sign up for the Elks News
Alerts and how to sign up for the Lodge Newsletter. This is also the place to change your e-mail address if
it’s been changed. Here are the instructions:
1. Go to “newportelks273.com” you will be at our Lodge Homepage
2. Within the 2nd paragraph, there is a link called News Mailing List. Click on that link and it will bring you
to the page where you see “Subscribing to News “. Below that paragraph, there are two entry boxes,
one for your e-mail address and one for your name (which is optional), signing up is that easy. If you
have any questions or need help, click on the e-mail for the Web site administrator. Bill Woodruff is the
Web site administrator [email protected].
3. If you are already on that list, and now have an e-mail change: go to the same area News Mailing List
and add your new e-mail address, don’t worry about your old e-mail address if it’s no longer valid it
won’t make a difference. (Do not send out a note to all members at [email protected]. that
your e-mail has changed, that does not get the change completed. No one will respond to your note or
correct the address, it just goes out to the general membership.)
4. If you have any questions regarding signing up you can e-mail me Fran Bray at
[email protected], or contact the Web Administrator, Bill Woodruff at bwoo-
5. If your current e-mail is correct when you sign up you will start receiving any Member News Alert e-
mails regarding our Lodge events that are generated. I send out the monthly Newsletter to all signed up
members through e-mail, prior to it going to the printer.
6. If you or any member wants to send out pertinent Elks information to all the members you can use the
e-mail address [email protected], that e-mail is strictly for Newport Elks information that you
want all members to be aware of. (Please do not use it for any Jokes (crude humor or otherwise) or
any other political or any unrelated information.) Also, if you happen to have a complaint about any-
thing regarding the lodge, please come to a meeting or Trustees meeting to voice any complaints or see
the Exalted Ruler. Elks e-mail is not to be used for voicing your opinions and it will be removed.
Hoping this helps, Fran Bray, Newsletter Editor, 859-441-8832

Can Tab Collections by D. Arnold
We have collected 127 lbs. of pull tabs to recycle for Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to all who donate.
Please help us collect the aluminum can tabs from your soft drink and beer cans by removing them from the top of your canned drink and placing them in the bowl on top of the blue recycling trash can. You can also hand them to our bartender, Kathy Hargett. If you are now giving them to someone else, could you please save them for Collection on Monday and Saturday at the Elks.
These little tabs are recycled and the money received for the aluminum helps subsidize the lodging costs for families of very sick children at the Ronald McDonald House.
Thank you so much to everyone for contributing to this effort.
