Awards and Honors...

David K. Bandler, professor of food science at Cornel1 University, is the recipient of the International Association of Milk, Food and Environmental Sanitarians (IAMFES) 1987 Educator Award.

The award, which includes a $1000 cash prize, is given in recognition of outstanding service to the public, to 1AMFES, and to the profession of sanitarian, the award recognizes Bandler's excellence in teaching, research, and extension.

Bandler received a bachelor's degree in 1955 and a master's degree in 1971 from Cornell. Bandler joined the Cornell faculty in 1965 as an extension specialist in the Food Science Department of the New York State College of Life Sciences at Cornei1. Before that, he served for 9 years as director of the New York State Joint Legislative Committee on Foods. He is an authority on milk quality control.

On October 8, 1987, The Academy of Dentistry International presented their pres- tigious Humanitarian of the Year 1987 Award to Dr. and Mrs. M. E. Ensminger, Agriservices Foundation, Clovis, CA for their global humani- tarian services.

The Ensmingers were cited for giving freely, unselfishly, and without salary to the cause of world food, hunger, and malnutrition. Among their numerous and notable contributions, the Ensminger have worked in 69 countries with emphasis on developing countries; for 40 years they conducted The International Stockmen's School, the oldest, most complete, and best known school of its kind in the world. The Ensmingers are also the authors of 19 scientific books, which are in several lan- guages and used throughout the world. The whole world is their classroom.

National Association of Animal Breeders Funds...

The National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) funds selected research projects through the NAAB Coordinated Research Program. The goal of the program is to foster research and development in animal breeding and reproductive physiology with special emphasis on artificial insemination as well as to provide researchers with seed money in order to obtain greater support from other organizations.

Necessary forms and guidelines for appli- cation may be obtained from the technical director of NAAB. Applications may be sub- mitted at any time, but award decisions will be made once yearly in May. Applications must be submitted to the technical director of NAAB no later than February 1 of each year. • Louisiana State University invites applica- tions and nominations for the position of professor and head, Department of Animal Science. The primary duty of the department head is to provide leadership for a department dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research. Specific responsibilities include bud- get preparation and management, selection, evaluation, and advancement of faculty and staff; aid in the development of courses and

curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels; participation in student recruitment and placement; coordination of working relation- ships with animal science extension and branch experiment station personnel; and development and maintenance of effective communications and interactions with university administrators, leaders in agriculture and related industries, government officials, other universities, and public groups. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in animal science or closely related field; distinguished record of contributions in both research and instruction; and demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding. Previous administrative experience is desirable. • The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Department of Animal and Food Science, invites applications for an assistant/associate professor of animal science, probationary faculty, tenure track, academic year. Responsi- bilities include teaching undergraduate courses in dairy production and management, dairy cattle evaluation, introductory animal science, and coaching the dairy judging team. Applicants should have a strong, practical background in dairy management and a desire to teach and advise undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop research in his/her area of interest. Position is available September 1, 1988. • The Department of Animal and Range Sciences, North Dakota State University, invites applications for the position of assistant pro- fessor in ruminant nutrition. The successful candidate is expected to develop a research

program to benefit North Dakota cow/calf producers and to establish a competitive research program in ruminant nutrition with emphasis in digestive physiology (forage utiliza- tion). Teaching of one course (graduate or undergraduate) per quarter is expected along with advising of both undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated research cre- ativity and productivity with an interest in interacting with producers and industry repre- sentatives. This full-time, 12-month, tenure- track position is allocated to 80% research and 20% teaching. The person will be expected to conduct research utilizing both beef and dairy cattle and to compete for extramural funding. Applications should include a state- ment addressing qualifications, complete with resume, transcripts, and list of publications. • The Clemson University Dairy Science Department has an assistant or associate pro- fessor position available July 1, 1988 in dairy microbiology. Salary and rank will be com- mensurate with qualifications and experience. Relevant work experience is highly desirable. The position is 50% research and 50% teaching and requires a Ph.D. in dairy or feed micro- biology with emphasis in cultured dairy pro- ducts and quality control. Teaching responsi- bilities include courses in market milk, cultured products, quality assurance, and sensory evaluation. The person will also coach the dairy products judging team. Research will involve cultured dairy products and microbiology of milk and milk products. Other responsibilities include advising students and supervising graduate research.
