Students have to be involved for fighting this huge battle and these clubs will soon be established in all the institutions in the state. In the last 10 years more than 60 thousand students in the state have lost their lives to narcotics and more than 41 thousand are languishing in hospitals for cure, they informed. CGC has taken an initiative by forming the first anti narcotics club to involve the students of the state in this noble cause. Among others present on the occasion were Dr GD Bansal, Director General, CGC, Col SPS Bedi, Executive Director, CGC, Mr AC Sharma, Director, Administration, Col HS Sarin, Head newly established Anti Narcotics Club and Dr Ashwini Sharma.

Workshop on “Emerging Global Trends and future challenges in Accounting and Finance ”

 

A two day workshop on “Emerging Global Trends and future challenges in Accounting and Finance” was organized at Chandigarh Business School, Landran in collaboration with CIMA (Chartered institute of management accountant) on 22nd and 23rd April 2011. The workshop started with Lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. (Col) SPS Bedi, Director, CBS, formally welcomed all the dignitaries and eminent

personalities from industry and academia. The workshop convener, Dr P.S. Vohra (HOD, BBA), introduced key speakers of the workshop, shared the session plan of two days and called upon the audience to actively participate and make maximum full use of two days extravaganza on Accounting and Finance.

A total of 76 participants took part in the workshop which included a fair mix of research scholars and faculty members of leading Business Schools in the region including Lovely Professional University, DAV College, SVIET, Gian Jyoti, Rattan Group, Desh Bhagat Group of Colleges, NIT Kurukshetra among several others.

Ms. Arti Sarup, North Region representative (CIMA) expressed her views on the topic “Road to Being a Global Business Leaders”. She gave an overview of the working of CIMA, its curriculum which is flexible and applicantion-oriented. She discussed the need of practical knowledge, skills, cost cutting and value additions for success in today’s world.

Dr Karamjeet Singh, University Business School, spoke on “Financial Inclusion- Achievements and Challenges”. He placed emphasis on the different phases in the financial inclusion, the equality of distribution of income and removal of disparity. He believed that there is a dire need for banking sector to provide financial services to the unbanked persons.

Industrialist, Mr. R. Balkrishana (CFO, INFO SOS) presented his expert views on “Changing paradigms of Accounting and Finance”. In his key message he emphasized on changes in ‘Book

Keeping System’, importance of data reporting, approach towards outsourcing and traditional accounting systems. He felt the need for development of professional competencies and harmonization in accounting standards. According to him, it is imperative to continuously upgrade one’s skill set in order to perform well in today’s competitive environment.

Dr. Monita from Punjabi University Patiala, threw some light on how to reduce the gap of audit expectation. She motivated the crowd to take up careers in auditing and develop specific skill sets required to perform well in auditing roles.

Towards the end of first day, Prof. (Dr.) Girish Jaswal expressed his opinions on “Corporate Restructuring” by discussing the advantages and challenges of Mergers and Acquisitions, particularly in a cross cultural environment.

The second day started with the session on “IFRS convergence” by Mr. Surjeet Singh. He shared his views on IAS, IFRS , its process, phases and how it is different from GAAP.

Ms. Rita (Groz Beckert, Internal audit dept.) standards”. She stressed the need of financial reporting in current business scenario.

Dr.  Vikas  Choudhary (NIT Kurukshetra) talked about Risk management and NPAS in banks. He shared some tricks of reducing risks of uncertainty in returns.

Dr. Jai Prakash, Dean CBS, delivered the vote of thanks and appreciated the whole event.(Col) S.P.S Bedi concluded the session and congratulated the organizing team for the success of the workshop. Certificates and Mementos were presented to the resource persons and the participants.

The workshop fully achieved the laid down objectives and proved to be a great success!

300 posts for tech. graduates in PWD, Punjab soon

Three hundred posts of junior engineers, engineers, draftsmen and other technical workers will soon be filled by the PWD (B&R) department in Punjab. This was declared by S Parminder Singh Dhindsa, PWD Minister, Punjab while addressing students on Placement Day 2011 at Chandigarh Group of

Colleges campus in Landran. Students from Mechanical, Civil and Electrical trade will be required for the same, he revealed.

Talking about the new model for development and maintenance of roads in the state he said that now a contract for 10 year maintenance of the roads is given to every contractor which makes it binding on him to maintain the roads and to use the best quality raw material. This is first such model in the country and is working well for the maintenance of roads in the state, he added.

Four laning of major highways is of the concern of the state government and initiatives are being taken for early disposal of work. World Bank has provided 1500 crores for the project and half of the money has been exhausted already. Also, Kharar-Kurali and Chandigarh-Ludhiana roads are being taken care of for four laning. NABARD has provided 300 crores for rural roads and work is already in progress, he informed.

In a glittering function held at Chandigarh Group of Colleges Landran campus placement letters were given to 83 students selected in L&T from engineering, MBA, Pharmacy, MCA and BCA. Those selected will be getting a remuneration of Rs. 3 lac per annum.

The chief guest for the occasion S Parminder Singh Dhindsa, PWD Minister, Punjab while addressing the students appreciated the efforts of the college for giving the students every possible facility for making brilliant careers and also gave them a lesson for working hard for nation building. He said that it is only with the efforts of institutions like Chandigarh Group of Colleges that the state can make a mark in the field of education in the country.

S Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC while addressing the students said that the best of multinational companies in Infosys, TCS, Accenture,  WIPRO, L&T, Tech Mahindra and many others always prefer to pick students of CGC and this is all because of the hard work of the faculty and students. S Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC said that the growth of a professional institution can be gauged only from the evaluation done by industry of its students and CGC scores very high on this scale. Every year we get 100 per cent placements for our students and this proves our commitment to the job of providing the best of education to our students.

B Ed. Students Achieve ‘Lakshya’ at CGC

Chandigarh College of Education (CCE), a constituent institute of CGC Landran, organized Job Fest ‘Lakshya’ at its campus today. The drive was held to offer private and public sector employment opportunities to pass-outs of B.Ed course. As many as 300 students

participated in the placement process where 11 top-notch schools of Punjab and tricity affiliated to State Boards and CBSE had gathered to recruit them.

Renowned as the highest on-campus placement provider in the region, CGC is also the first institution to provide job opportunities to students of B Ed.

Giving information regarding the job fest, Dr. Neena Sawhney, Principal CCE said that the students who have been short-listed today will go to the respective schools and give teaching demonstration for final selection. The results of this drive will be updated on the college website www.cgc.edu.invery shortly, she added.

Mr. Satnam Singn Sandhu, Chairman and Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC appreciated the efforts of CCE in organizing such a grand event. They informed that a special placement cell has been constituted to help students get better placement opportunities.

CGC Salutes Heroes of India

Saluting the heroes of India, who valiantly fought for the Nation’s freedom, Chandigarh Group of Colleges celebrated Independence Day at their Landran campus on 15thAugust. The function was co-ordinated by the NCC wing of CGC. Students sang patriotic songs and performed choreography and skits to depict what is true spirit of India. The flag-hoisting ceremony was done by President of CGC Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhaliwal said that our heroes underwent a lot of misery to free us from British colonialism but we are again entangling ourselves in the shackles of much dangerous rulers like corruption and communal disharmony. Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman

CGC, added that we need to strengthen ourselves as a nation and have a strong vision that can help us develop and make a mark in the world. We need to think about the future and invest into youth who today form the larger proportion of our population, he said.

CGC to hold Job Fest for B.Ed students

Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) is organizing a job fest for students of B Ed. course at their Landran Campus on 17th August. Twelve+ top schools of the region including Y.PS., Gurukul Global School, Hansraj Public School, Bhawan Vidyalya, Doon International School and many more will be recruiting students from this fest.

Principal of Chandigarh College of Education, a constituent of CGC, Dr. Neena Sawhney, said that other than the public and private schools, PSEB and CBSE will also be employing teachers under this fest. Candidates can fill on-line forms on the college website ‘www.cgc.edu.in’. These forms will be shortlisted according to the criterion set by schools and only the shortlisted candidates will be called on the final day. This process has been adapted to stream-line the whole process and reduce the final day’s rush, she added.

Giving further information, Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President of CGC said, “CGC is the first college of Punjab to organize placement drive for students of B.Ed. More than 50 schools recruited students in placement drives organized here last year.” Efforts are on for facilitating placements of these students in foreign schools, they added.

CGC Landran Biotechnology Students Sweeps University Merit Positions

 

The students of Department of Biotechnology, CGC, Landran once again proved their academic excellence in the results of final examinations conducted by Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar in December 2010. In recently declared university examination results of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester VI the students of Biotechnology Department, CGC, Landran have managed to bag threemerit positions in the top ten merit list.

Gurjot kaur, student of CGC, Landran bagged 2nd position in University Merit List by securing 84.02%, while Amritpal Kaur got 5th position with 82.36% and Vikrant Karmahapatra  secured 9th position with 80.14 % . Almost all the students have passed in first division.

Praising the efforts of students and faculty, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, Chandigarh Group of Colleges attributed the success in the university results to the dedicated efforts of their faculty and the amount of practical exposure given to the students in their Institutions.

Chandigarh Business School, a premium constituent of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, organized a Faculty Development Programme on “Academic Innovation through Advanced Teaching Aids & Learning Process” at CBS Campus, Landran, Mohali from 18th July To 25th  July 2011.The Programme started

with Lighting of lamp by  S.Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, and Dr G D Bansal Director General, Chandigarh Group of Colleges . Dr (Col) S P S Bedi welcomed the speakers, participants and other dignitaries to the Programme. S.Satnam Singh Sandhu & Dr G D Bansal in their inaugural address laid emphasis on importance of FDP for new joinees & exhorted the participants to take maximum benefit from this programme. Dr Hitesh Katyal, Principal, CBS gave a brief overview of all the topics included in the programme and expressed the hope that the objectives of the programme will be amply achieved. Eminent speakers from Industry and academia participated in the programme were Dr.  SPS Bedi (Executive Director, CGC), Dr.G.D. Computer Literacy Training, Effective Communication and Soft Skills, Break through Leadership for Organizational etc. Total 75 faculties from CGC & some other faculties from different colleges of near by area also participated in this programme. During the valedictory session, Dr Nisha Dani, Convener concluded the programme by taking the feedback from the participants and covering the salient features of all sessions of Faculty Development Programme. Dr. Hitesh Katyal, Principal, CBS thanked all the speakers who made a valuable contribution to the proceedings of the FDP. Overall the whole Faculty Development Programme was a grand success and afforded the Faculty members a chance to listen to a number of versatile & excellent speakers to share their views and experiences on various topics of the programme. CGC Pays Tribute to Kargil Martyrs

Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) organized an event, at its Landran Campus, to celebrate the Vijay Divas of Kargil war and pay homage to the valiant soldiers who fought on the high altitudes of LOC and sacrificed their lives for their motherland.

The event started with the NCC cadets of CGC welcoming the chief

guest Major General Raj Mehta and guest of honor Brigadier B.S.Gill. Dr. Aarti Mahendru, the NCC chief of college then gave an introduction to the Kargil war and the reasons to celebrate the Vijay Divas.  A presentation depicting the life of soldiers on postings at high ranges of our nation and the scenario during war was also presented. Students, faculty and the guests maintained 1-minute silence to mourn the loss of our gallant soldiers in the war.

 Major Gen Raj Mehta said that every civilian is a soldier and has to contribute to the development of one’s nation. He stressed upon young people to realize their worth and make a liaison with their inner God, as that can lead them to follow the right path.  Commemorated with the Ati vashisht Sewa Medal (ASM) and Vashisht Sewa Medal (VSM) from the President of India, Major Gen Mehta inspired the students to build a strong character which could help them stand the turbulent times. He also added that we, as a society must grow up and respect women to achieve higher growth in every field. He also shared instances from the 1971 and Kargil war with the audiences.

The guest of honor, Vir Chakra Brigadier B.S.Gill shared his experiences from the Kargil war. He asked students to join the defense forces and serve their nation. He provided strong facts regarding the number of casualties during the war, the soldiers who were awarded with various honors etc.

Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC applauded the efforts of the planning and operations team to have organized such a noble function at the institution premises. Mr. Sandhu, in his address, spoke of the contribution of the institute towards defense forces in terms of students recruited by the means of University Entrance Scheme (UES). He inspired the students to work harder and serve their nation better. “We should rise up and think of the nation before thinking about ourselves”, he added.

High Powered Australian Delegation visits CGC

 

The Australian delegation consisting of 10 members visited Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran Mohali on 20.07.2011. This delegation was comprised of Lord Mayor of Parramatta, two Councilors, Associate Dean of University of Western Sydney, and five leading business personalities from corporate sector of Australia. The delegation

was given a warm welcome by Dr. Bedi and Mr. A.C. Sharma. The welcome speech and presentation was delivered by Dr. Bedi. He gave presentation regarding the journey of CGC for the past decade. The delegation was highly impressed with the innovative projects like Project Pure, Hamara Bachpan, All terrain vehicles (ATV) etc. Dr. Bedi also briefed the delegates about our MOU’s with other universities and CGC’s motive to develop Entrepreneurship amongst the students.

 

The delegation also visited e-governance centre, auditorium canteen and other facilities. Afterwards they had lunch at HMCT and were presented mementos. Hon. John Chedid, Lord Mayor of Parramatta presented a token of appreciation to CGC and praised the achievements of the group over such a short time span and thanked for the hospitality. The visitors also endorsed their remarks in the visitor book and expressed their interest for further associations.

New Milestone in quality technical education CEC, Landran selected for a world bank grant of Rs. 4 crore

 

 

 

Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC), landran, Mohali a flagship organization of Chandigarh Group of Colleges has got yet another opportunity for raising its academic standards still higher by getting a world bank grant of Rs. 4 crore through Govt. of India. CEC has proved to be the first college in the state to get such a grant. Twenty five private unaided colleges

across the country have been selected for this grant. The grant has been provided under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) undertaken jointly by the world bank, the Govt. of India and the state government.

 

Congratulating the management of CGC, a highly elated Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor PTU, Jalandhar said that this grant of Rs. 4 crore to CEC is a matter of pride for PTU also as a leading college of this university has been given recognition by the Govt. of India as well as the world bank. He opined that this organization is already known in the whole of northern India for its high quality standards and this financial help will further raise the standards of technical education being imparted by them. Dr. Arora further informed that as a result of the efforts being made by PTU for improving the quality of technical education, this year more than 10, 000 students have taken admission through online counseling against only about 5000 last year. He revealed that the number of students from outside Punjab has increased three folds this year. He added that in association of Baba Farid University new courses in Hospital administration and Hospital management will be started from the next session. Further with a view to produce better human beings, new courses like human values and professional ethics,

environmental science etc are being introduced for the students of all the professional courses in the first year itself.

 

Speaking on the occasion, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, landran & Gharuan campuses and S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC said that this grant will be utilized for providing latest equipments, setting up labs of international standards and raising the overall academic standards of the students , they declared that the management of CGC will further add suitable amounts from their own trust also to met all the requirements in this direction. They added that this grant has once again established the supremacy of CEC in the field of technical education. Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director General, CGC said that in all 263 private unaided colleges across the country had applied for this grant, out of which only 25 have been selected by a high powered committee after considering various parameters like infrastructure, faculty, results and placements of students. Dr. S.P.S.Bedi, Executive Director, Mr. Avinash Sharma, Director HR & Admn, Mr. Satvir Singh, Principal, College of Hotel Management and Shri Upendra Jain, Principal, College of Pharmacy were also present on this occasion.

on 16.04.2011 (depending upon the availability of the chief guest). Hence all the alumni of

C.G.C. are requested to confirm their presence on 16.04.2011 by registering themselves in C.G.C.
