First of all, I would like to say thank you. This is the first full year that I have run this blog as my full-time job. Every day I sit at my computer and blog all day. Itʼs amazing and I could never have done it without the awesome support of you the readers, our fantastic advertisers (please patronize them!), and rockstar contributors.

Happy HolidaysPosted on 12.24.10 by Jaime in Architecture, Art, News & EventsHappy Holidays from all of us at Design Milk to you and your family!

Iʼm gushing over Galerie Gosserezʼs latest exhibit of German designer Valentin Loellmannʼs M&Mme collection. What I love about these pieces is that the legs are

all clearly traditional shapes but the pieces scream modern.

PANTONE’s 2011 Color of the YearPosted on 12.11.10 by Jaime in Interior Design, News & Events, Style & FashionUntil PANTONEʼs announcement of last yearʼs color of the year for 2010 — 15-5519 Turquoise — I had no idea how powerful this declaration would really be. Every magazine, blog and website was littered with turquoise, blue-green, teal and any shade bearing the slightest resemblance to turquoise.

PANTONE continues its fashion and home decor domination by declaring 2011′s color…

wait for it…

Honeysuckle.

Energizing Honeysuckle lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet lifeʼs ongoing challenges.

A Color for All Seasons. Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. Itʼs a color for every day — with nothing “everyday” about it.

This reddish, pinkish, salmonish color will dominate the internerd for the next 12 months. Are you ready?

Within 20 minutes of this declaration on Thursday, my inbox was flooded with pink-colored gift ideas, roundups and submissions. It was like a Pepto-Bismol explosion in my inbox. That being said, I actually like this color but am afraid that PANTONEʼs influence may flood the market so much so that I might get sick of it very quickly.

What do you think? Love it or hate it? Care or donʼt care? Will you be using it in any of your projects?

111 Chairs ProjectPosted on 12.09.10 by Jaime in Home Furnishings, News & Events

A special thanks to DWR for inviting me to be a part of their 111 Navy Chairs project where I — along with 110 others — answered some questions and made a silly doodle of me in my favorite chair — the Eames Lounge and Ottoman. You can check out all the doodles here as they go up a few each day until all 111 responses are live! Itʼs so fun to see everyoneʼs doodled self-portrait in their favorite chair!

Do you think my doodled self looks like me?

Modern Christmas TreePosted on 12.07.10 by Jaime in Home Furnishings, News & Events, Style & FashionIf you are looking for modern Christmas trees, here are a few options for you:

1. If you are gung-ho on getting a real tree, be sure to bring it to a tree recycling center when youʼre finished.

2. Go buy someoneʼs old fake one on Craigslist or eBay so it goes to use instead of in the trash (we got a 1950s aluminum one a few years back).

3. Try opting for one of the following modern options:

Holiday Wishlist 2010: EleanorPosted on 12.02.10 by Eleanor in Architecture, Art, Home Furnishings, News & Events, Style & Fashion, TechnologyWe donʼt do gift guides here on Design Milk because everyone does them. We like to be different. Last year, we did staff wishlists and once again we thought it would be fun to continue this new tradition and ask each current contributor what was on

their wishlist this holiday season — realistic or pipe dream. So, for next 2 weeks weʼll be featuring staff wishlists.

I had the hardest time this season thinking up a dream list! Maybe itʼs a testament to contentment, maybe I havenʼt been blog surfing enough, either way it wouldnʼt hurt to get my hands on some of these effects:

1. L.L. Bean Duck BootsClassic, all-weather wear made in Maine. Certainly not the same olʼ urban rain gear we see almost daily here in NYC.

2. Nau Fluent TravelerItʼs been on my list for over a year — I should really just take the plunge.

3. New iPod NanoHow is it that this always happens? My ancient Shuffle finally dies, only weeks before Appleʼs latest release, but my MP3 addiction keeps me from holding out. Now Iʼm jonesing the latest Nano release like no other.

4. The Selby Is in Your PlaceSure, youʼve seen this book all over the place. Sure, itʼs $23 bucks. But seriously, The Selbyʼs an instant classic.

5. Salt Lake City HomeI went to college in Utah and now many of my closest family and friends are 2,000 dreadful miles away. Goal One: Buy a base in Salt Lake. Goal Two: Make it Brent Jespersenʼs.
