From My Heart to Yours “Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems”

Former college football coach Curley Hallman

“The forces of good and decency often seem

helpless before evil’s power, but don’t be fooled:

God is in control and will set things right.”

Author, Ed McMinn

These two quotes came from a daily devotional book I am reading. I felt they both seem appropriate for the times in which we

live. No matter how bad our situation (personally, family, job, nation, church or anything else) may appear we need to be re-

minded that God is in control and ultimately His will, will be done. We are living in troubling times and things may get worse

before they get better. Times have always been troubling for followers of God, for His children. Times were troubling for Je-

sus when walked on earth. Times were troubling for Paul, Peter, John, Mary, Lydia and all the early disciples. The Bible tells

us that times have been hard for any one who follows and obeys God: Noah, Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Esther, Job, David, Isaiah,

Jeremiah, and hundreds more all lived in trying times. The Bible also reveals that these Biblical characters were humans like

us. They questioned God. They faltered and failed at times. They trusted, followed and obeyed God.

We may find ourselves at times questioning, “Why God are these things happening?” Many answers come to mind: lack of

true confession and repentance, lack of prayer, faith and obedience from God’s children. The “why” question is usually never

satisfactorily answered.

A better question to ask is “What Lord do I need to be and do during these troubling times?” Do I need to confess some sin(s),

repent of something, or trust and obey You in some area of my life?

The writer of Hebrews gives us some encouraging words for the trying times in which we live:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin

that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer

and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat sown at the right hand

of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose

heart.”

Hebrews 12: 1-3 (NIV)

Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday in Bible study and Worship.

Children’s News

Wednesday evenings we will be working on the Christmas program. It is very important that the children be here each Wednesday night for prac-tice. Each week I will be asking you to specifically pray for a school. This week I am asking you to please be in prayer Mercer School. Pray for their safety, for patience, an environment that fosters learning, and for God to move in the livs of all who walk through the doors of that school.

Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday. Susan R Peyton Jeremiah 29:11
