News from Around the CH World December 2012 Deb Martin: Adoption Specialist When I started this group I had no idea it would grow into what it is today. It became very clear to me that I might be in over my head, ok I knew I was. I noticed this wonderful lady named Deb Martin, who seemed to have quite a bit of knowledge and connections . It was apparent, I needed Deb! She agreed to become an administrator for the group and has been the driving force behind the majority of adoptions, rescues, transports and so much more. Deb is more than an administrator; she is a savior for so many CH cats. Without her I would have been lost as would so many CH cats out there. In the beginning I don’t think Deb knew what she had gotten herself into. There are times I know she feels like pulling her hair out. But in the end, when things come together, we both like to sit back and talk about drinking boxed wine. Thank you, Deb Martin, for being an amazing CH advocate and friend. Deb Martin: Adoption Specialist

When I started this group I had no idea it would grow into what it is today. It became very clear to me that I might be in over my head, ok I knew I was. I noticed this wonderful lady named Deb Martin, who seemed to have quite a bit of knowledge and connections.

Dec 15 is National Cat Herders Day

Cat Herders Day was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays to honor all of the people in the world whose lives can be compared to the impossible task of herding cats.

Many of you take care of feral cat communities or have a houseful of rescues that make it seem like you are always playing round em up.

It’s nice to know there is a holiday specifically set aside for those of you who can relate to this holiday and can now consider yourselves official “Cat Herders”

Pekin, IL

I was found at 5 weeks old with my brother Opie. We were both adopted but my adoptive family returned me 3 years later due to my potty habits.

I am declawed (by previous family), mild CH and can get around fine, even climbing stair. I am very playful and love affection. I have been around children and other animals. My foster mom feeds me UR food to prevent crystals. I do sometimes prefer the potty pad to the box. If you are interested please contact my foster mom Becky [email protected]

Perli is severely disabled 1 yr old with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. She has a hard time walking, but that doesn’t stop her from

getting around and getting what she wants! Shes timid with people and other cats, but if you stop and love on her she just soaks it up! Perli had severe eye infections and she came away from it with a scarred eye and some chronic tearing. Perli is spayed, vaccinated, negative for felv/fiv, and microchipped. Contact Tara [email protected] or Emily at [email protected] at K9 Kastle

Champ is a darling little girl of 4 months, with a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which affects motor skills, but not health. She is friendly, playful and loving--a veritable purr box.

Champ is also moderate to severe, but uses the litter box. She loves other cats and shouldn't be an only cat. Champ is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and negative for felv/fiv. Contact Tara [email protected] or Emily at [email protected] at K9 Kastle

About 3 years. Black and white tuxedo. Very petite, darling loving personality. On a CH scale of 0-10, With 10 being severe, I'd say she is a 6 in mobility. But she is perfect

with her litterbox. Great with other cats. IBD is well- managed with venison diet. She's a gem!!! Contact Laura at Harbor Hope Car Rescue https://www.facebook.com/groups/190017359962

Tabby was born in a vacant property in West Baltimore in 2011. Tabby's CH is very mildly. She can run, jump, chase the laser pointer, and scale a cat

tree in less than 2 seconds. She's just a little bit off balance, but requires no meds and will live a full life. Tabby is spayed and vaccinated. Her mother tested negative for Felv/FIV, which means she is also negative. She's super affectionate and a petite little lady. Contact Charm City Animal Rescue http://charmcityanimalrescue.com/

Born in just 2009, Duke is a handsome boy with unique, short whiskers that curl inward. Bright, curious and alert, he loves people and gets along fine with other cats, too. His condition makes it difficult

for him to stand or walk. He can eat and drink on his own. He can also use a litter box, if one is nearby. Duke is very cooperative about taking his daily bath, and seems to understand that his caregivers are helping him. His favorite activity is being wrapped in a blanket and going outside to bask in the sunshine. If interested contact Best Friends Animal Society http://www.bestfriends.org/

K9Kastle, a rescue group located in New York, steps up to the plate to pull sick and injured cats from

high kill shelters in their area. Without the efforts of this amazing group, these kitties would be destined

to be put to sleep.

Lynda Ekins and myself, offered to foster some of these kitties for K9Kastle. The only speed bump, which

was huge, was the distance. Lynda and I are on the west coast in Washington State and K9Kastle is on the

East Coast.

With the help and ingenuity of Emily Beck offering her air miles, the transport plans were underway.

Emily asked friends and family as well as posting an ad on craigslist for anyone interested in flying to

Seattle.

Emily was able to find two girls and a rescuer from Seattle to fly out three kitties. Lynda is taking two

kittens from K9Kastle and one from All Sentinel Beings. These kitties are to arrive Dec. 1 into SeaTac

Airport. Congratulations to Lynda for her new additions.

Shea, a friend of Emily’s will be flying out to Seattle on Dec. 8 to bring Tuti, a beautiful gray CH kitten for

me to foster. I’m excited to help out both Tuti and Emily at K9Kastle. My hope is that in the future,

transports such as these will be much easier to facilitate.

Huge thanks for making all this possible to Emily Beck, Lynda Ekins, and K9Kastle. Also, thank you to

June Liston, who offered to fly a kitty to Seattle if transport could not be found.

Recently there have been posts of CH dogs posted on the group page. I realized that if a

group has more than a few hundred members, Facebook will not allow the administrative

team to change or modify the group name.

I would like to let all members know, if you come across a dog with CH in need of a home,

we welcome you to post their photo. Please include location, contact information, age,

gender, and severity. Even though the page notes “Cats and Kittens” we understand

that all animals with this condition need homes too. We encourage our members to help

all animals with CH regardless of what they kind of animal they are.

Cerebellar Hypoplasia; Not just for Cats

From all of us at Cerebellar Hypoplasia Cats & Kittens We wish you a safe and amazing Holiday Season.
