We welcome community-minded men and women with a desire to assist others and enjoy good fellowship.

President’s Message. . .Our Tree of Light bulb sales commenced on November 2nd and are ongoing with many shifts being cheerfully worked by our enthusiastic members, who are able to do so. A number of members have spent many hours securing sponsorships from supportive local businesses too and all these efforts are deeply appreciated.
Our thoughts and best wishes have been with Lion Ed and it was great to see him again at our dinner meeting on November 21st. Lion Ed has refurbished some strings of lights for the front of the Town Hall, an addition to the new lights
kindly donated by Butch Desjardine for the lovely blue spruce tree beside the Town Hall. All these lights will be turned on at the Tree Lighting Ceremony, with free hot chocolate, horse and wagon rides and local choirs singing between 6:00-7:30 p.m. on November 29th, ably chaired by
Lion Barry Wolfe, assisted by committee members Lions Marlene, Mariette, Ed, Gary and Jean.
Thanks to Lions Gary and Jean Lawton, Sean Baldwin and Tawnya Walker plus Lion Cub Bryce Nesbitt who marched with me in the Remembrance Day parade/wreath Laying ceremony at the Town Cenotaph on Nov. 10th.
Lion Secretary Barry Wolfe and Treasurer Gary Lawton attended the club officer training, while I presented the club Membership Chair workshop, in St. Thomas on November 17th.
I was delighted that 1st VDG John Johnston was able to induct new members Sean Baldwin and Tawnya Walker at our dinner meeting on . .

“This is a very special day. This day is a day dedicated to honoring new members who have been brought into our organization and to recognize the dedication of the sponsors who have invited them into our club. Today, we are expanding our ability to serve our communities and helping us to carry on our humanitarian efforts. On this day, we offer these new Lions an opportunity to experience our pride of service and the gift of lasting and meaningful friendship. This is truly a cause for celebration! ! “We honor these new Lions because they fill a very important role. . . they hold the key to our future. We must teach them well for they will be the leaders that will move us forward to serve the next generation. As we share our traditions and ask them to carry on the legacy of Lions. . . we should also look to them for new ideas and inspiration so that we may learn from them as they learn from us.
! “Membership in a Lions club is an esteemed privilege. You are joining the world’s largest and most active service club organization, consisting of over 1.3 million service-minded men and women in approximately 45,000 clubs in 206 countries and geographical areas. Our organization was conceived at a meeting in Chicago, Illinois, on June 7, 1917, under the leadership of founder Melvin Jones. The expansion and growth of humanitarian service has been accomplished through the dedication of our members. Today, we ask you to help us carry the torch of Lions and build a brighter future for all mankind. We ask you…“to serve.”! “You are aware of the ethics and objects of our association, and of the work that Lions are doing. I must impress upon each of you that the privilege of Lions membership also
entails definite obligations. Lions Clubs International is not a fraternal, social or political organization. It is a group of men and women bonded together to do things that you and I cannot do as individuals, a medium through which people of goodwill can serve their fellow men. The motto of our association and of our own club is “We Serve.” As you progress as a Lion, you will discover the great satisfaction that comes from sharing in our effort.”

https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/fundraise! Lion Irene made a suggestion, via e-mail, for fund raising. PayPal. Those of you who are familiar with finding and ordering goods and services on the internet are probably familiar with PayPal. It’s easy!! When a buyer proceeds to the online “Checkout”, just like at the grocery store when you summarize your purchases, total your bill and then choose your payment method, the options include a credit card - or PayPal.! Both parties, those buying and those providing the service, have their own PayPal account. This is set up ahead of time of course.! The buyer provides “PayPal” with their financial information to confirm their credit worthiness and how the purchases will be paid. PayPal is faster and easier as the buyer just clicks the PayPal button, and all financial arrangements are made automatically.! The service provider’s PayPal account, provides their financial information to “PayPal” so that the money goes from the buyer, through PayPal, into the provider’s (Lions) financial institution account. The group receiving the money, Strathroy-Caradoc Lions for example, has a fee deducted by PayPal for this service - in Canada I believe it is 1.9%(?) + 30¢ per donation.! Thus, if someone uses PayPal to make a donation of $100 to our Lions Club, PayPal’s service fee is $1.90 (?) + 30¢, or $2.20. The club would have $97.80 (proceeds) deposited automatically into our account.

A couple of hundred folks turned out for the fourth annual tree lighting ceremony. Darryl Thompson provided Christmas music as members and family served up hot chocolate. Getting ready is a lot of fun!
John Brennan and Shannon Churchill brought greetings to the group. The Mary Wright school choir of about 70 young folks, under the leadership of Christy Bergman, sang with great spirit.
Ralph Thorne played the accordion as the Strathroy Chorale sang Christmas favourites.
The lights came on, just as Lion Ed planned, to oohs. The 1500+ new LED lights donated by Butch Desjardine are much brighter and fill the tree more completely - it definitely glows!
Rudolph got delayed, but Santa arrived to greet youngsters and share sweets with the choir and visitors.
The proceeds after expenses - so far - are $5,379.37. We have 7 businesses that donated bike stands. We will place engraved ‘plastic’ plaques on each stand to indicate the sponsor - along with the Lions logo and our club name of course.
