Dear Church Family,

We want to thank you for all the thoughtful words and deeds that came our way after Daddy’s death. We are so appreciative of the food, visits, cards, and kind words we have received. We are also thankful for the visits and spiritual ministry that was provided for Daddy once he could no longer attend church. We know he appreciated it, too, as church was very important to him. Again, thank you. We are so fortunate to be part of such a loving group. Mary Katherine, Jane, & Joe

Dearest Church Family,

Thank you does not seem enough to express our gratitude, support, and love of our church family during this time. We appreciate the kind words, meals, cards, and prayers, and know we have the love of the congregation.

Since I was 5 years old, I've been a Chicago Cubs fan. When I was little and people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always, "I want to be the batter for the Cubs!" (I hadn't completely figured out the game yet). Hitting was fun, standing in the field, not as much; so I just wanted to be the batter, I just wanted to do the fun stuff. As I came to understand baseball I realized that unless you can get a team to work hard, and work together in the field, you'll never get to the plate. Unless you can become a team, there won't be any opportunities for personal achievement.

I think the same applies to our faith lives. Unless we gather together in worship, study, service, and fellowship...Unless we can grow together as a team...even our best individual efforts will be pretty much, meaningless. When we're together, we learn from and teach one another, we grasp and develop ideas that would have eluded us if we were alone, and we grow stronger as people of faith, and as a Christian Community.

Rally Day is in a couple weeks, and we'll be talking about Sunday School, The Fellowship Hour, and the roll-out of our new interest-based Fellowship Teams. It's going to be a busy and fun day, and I hope you'll be here to learn about what we can do together to share God's love and grace, as the FPCQ Team!

Peace, Chris

(and...Go Cubs Go!!!!)

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRAYER—As it is my belief that prayer is a vital discipline for all of us as we seek to live into our relationship with our loving God, we are offering a couple options for developing this important discipline. First: Some of us pray best in quiet and still placers, others of us need to move as we pray. From August 14-16 there will be a Labyrinth set up for use in the room behind the stage for those who walk as they pray. A Labyrinth is a pattern consisting of a single circuitous path which winds to the center. As you walk to the center of the path and out again, you offer your prayers to God. Second: The Bible

encourages us to pray: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." The Bible also gives us models for prayer. You are invited to join our Sunday evening study, August 21 & 28, from 5:30-6:30 as we study some of the prayers in the Bible and consider how they might be guides for our prayer life. Ruth

The annual meeting of Presbyterian Women is on August 25th in the Fellowship Hall. Jean Little will

prepare one of her delicious salad suppers for the 6:30 meeting. This event will conclude one

year of study and fellowship, and launch a new one. The Bible Study for the year will be

introduced. It is “ Who Is Jesus?” The program will also include introduction of the new

officers and circle leaders for the coming year, and installation of officers. Circle rosters, circle

responsibilities, the moderator’s report on the past year, and treasurer’s report will be

distributed. Business should be completed around 8:00 p.m. New officers will assume duties

immediately at the close of the annual meeting. The fellowship of Presbyterian Women is open

to all who are active in the life of the church and their friends. It is not confined to the official membership

of the church. A special Variety Show is being organized, so plan to come and invite your friends.

As I sit here to write, I’m hours away from leaving for Montreat with our Sr. Highs. We have a fun and inspiring summer as you can see by all the pictures Ms. Beverly has put in this newsletter! We are excited and very grateful for the Gregory and Woodward families for allowing us to us their houses at Montreat. We are looking forward to being there next week.

During the month of August we will be reving up for Rally Day and the start up of all programs for the year!

On August 9th, the Terrific Tuesday & Route 456 group will go to Water World for the last outing.

On August 11th at 6p.m. we will have a youth parents meeting for rising 6th-12th grades to discuss our year and get all forms notarized and ready for upcoming events.

On August 14th we will be having Rally Day. Tune up your life by getting back in the groove and join us for some musical fun at 9:30a.m. in the fellowship hall. We will have a pick up breakfast and promotions at that time and introduce teachers and class options.

And last but most important- IT’S DIRECTORY TIME! Please make sure to sign up to get your pictures made so you will be in the new directory! Pictures are being made August 23-27th.
